Game 8...Silver And Black...Oakland Raiders!

On Sunday, October 27th at 3:25 pm CST, the Texans will play host to the Oakland Raiders in NRG Stadium. The Game will be aired locally in Houston on TV on CBS 11 and on radio on Sports Radio 610 AM.

Which Texans team will we get? Will we get the team that manhandled the Falcons and Chiefs? Or will we get the team that was sloppy and hard to watch against the Panthers and Colts? If we get the explosive, aggressive dominant offensive line from the Falcons and Chiefs game, Watson will be able to take control of this game and push the Raiders around at will. If that offensive line makes mistakes, jumps off sides, holds, commits illegal procedure penalties and can't block well, the Texans will get eaten up. It's going to come down to the play in the trenches.
Let's hope the offensive line comes to play, not goof off. Give Deshaun just a little time and he will carve that Oakland defense to pieces.
The defense just needs to keep a mistake prone Derek Carr out of the end zone and create some turn overs. As poorly as he's been playing, and with JJ and Whitney going after him, we just might see that happen.
I'm going to say the Texans come out angry and play a bounce back game.

This game day thread (after a loss) took its time coming out.

As far as the thread opening, I kind of recall the Chiefs game a little differently than Jam. It was a close game in the end.

I think this game will be close, too. For no specific reason other than the Texans prone to do Texans-like things.

Sorry it took so long. I haven't had much time this week. I've been working allot of over time being that we're short handed at work and it hasn't left me much time between my little boy and my wife as well as trying to keep up with the Astros. I haven't been able to actually sit down and put together this thread until this morning.

The Raiders are a team that has shown signs of being a pretty good football team. If the Raiders show up to play and our guys do as well then I give us a slight win. If the bad Raiders show up to play our Texans when we are ready for them then we will win by more than 2 touchdowns. Of coarse the same can be said about our teams coaching staffs. We also have to hope the referees let the players play. I expect that our Texans will be coached well and the refs will let the players play for the most part and we will win. The only real question is by how much?

Forgive me for punctuation errors. My keyboard is on the fritz and some buttons do not work.

A-men to that.
When you put it that way... it makes me think of a generic version of the A-team....

I see them driving around dressed as jehovah's witnesses after leaving the Catholic church after being accused of a sin they did not commit driving around in a black and red VW bus.

Not a problem for me. Your efforts are appreciated!

Texans are a 6 1/2 point favorite. What's interesting is that this game has the highest over/under of the week in the NFL at 51½ because both teams are coming off games where their defenses got shredded. It indeed appears that most are expecting a high scoring game, and based on past performances of both of the secondaries, balls will probably start flying right from the beginning.

My expectations have fallen off a cliff.

Forget about that 12 win season.

The Raiders have the 6th best rushing attack in the NFL …. they also run a lot of zone in the secondary.

Both are a recipe for disaster for Texans fans.

The Texans are the more talented team …. but that doesn't much matter when we have arguably the worst head coach in the entire league. OB sucks. I'd trade him for the leagues worst water boy and feel like I came out on top.

Somebody wins 17-16.

Probably the Raiders cause Fairbairn misses another PAT cause OB cut his holder.

Take the under.

I think the Texans win this game, but it will be even closer than the final score suggests. Waller and Jacobs will get a bunch of yards, but it won’t matter once it’s all said and done. Carr for 200 yds, 1 Interception.

Texans: 24
Raiders: 20

WR Zay Jones joined the Raiders following a trade during the Bye week, and although inactive last week will likely be in the lineup Sunday.

Behind Enemy Lines with Mark Lane of Texans Wire

By: Marcus Mosher | October 25, 2019 11:54 am ET

Ahead of the Raiders’ Week 8 matchup with the Houston Texans, we spoke with Mark Lane of Texans Wire to discuss the game. Here is what Lane had to say about Houston and their chances of winning:

1. How has the trade for Laremy Tunsil worked out so far?

It has worked out well. The Texans have a solid answer at left tackle as opposed to a late-round pick or journeyman they hope can grow into the position. Tunsil has the first-round pedigree and talent that has been missing at left tackle since the club dealt Duane Brown to the Seahawks in 2017.

I would say he has helped lower the pressure quarterback Deshaun Watson faces, but at the same time, I wouldn’t say Tunsil has solved the sack problem as that seems to be also a byproduct of the way Watson plays.

Nonetheless, the organization at least has the credibility to say they tried to protect Watson with premier talent rather than cobbling together cheap solutions hoping he doesn’t get hurt.

2. DeAndre Hopkins’ numbers have dipped this season. Why has that been the case?
It is a myriad of factors. First of all, Hopkins’ yards per target is the second-lowest of his career through the first seven games at 7.47. So, while he may have the second-most receptions of his career through the first seven games (49), his targets aren’t really downfield. For deeper targets, receivers Will Fuller and Kenny Stills have been more of the go-to’s for that.

Then, the Texans actually have tight ends factoring into the passing game with Darren Fells and Jordan Akins. He has really been disappointing in fantasy football this year, but as far as real football, he is tied with Cooper Kupp and Keenan Allen for the second-most third-down conversions in the NFL with 12. He is still available to move the chains when it calls for it.

3. Without Will Fuller, who is expected to see an increase in targets?
Stills. Part of the reason the Texans added him in the great Laremy Tunsil haul was because of his ability to fill in at virtually any receiver spot. The Texans have two iffy wideouts in Fuller and Keke Coutee, with both not exactly having the best track records for health.

In the Indianapolis game last week, Stills was the guy who stepped in for Fuller as that deep threat, catching two passes for 41 and 45 yards to give the Texans a boost. Of course, Stills missed two games so far with hamstring issues of his own.

4. Is cornerback Gareon Conley going to start this week?
I doubt it, though he will see significant playing time due to injuries. The club will roll with rookie Lonnie Johnson and Johnathan Joseph, who is also battling his fair share of injuries with his neck and hamstring.

Keion Crossen is the new Johnson Bademosi in that he’s more of a special teams guy and not really someone they want to give a bunch of defensive snaps to, and then sixth-round rookie Xavier Crawford is too callow to be impactful at this point.

It is reminiscent of last year when the Texans traded with the Denver Broncos for receiver Demaryius Thomas, and he played that very week against his old team.

5. Who do you expect to win, and why?

Well, the Texans crashed back down to reality last week..... so, being the Texans always take their fans on a rollercoaster... I will say they dominate the Raiders... boosting the ego and confidence of the fans that don't learn.... where the Jags will find a way to bring the Texans back down to reality the week after.

Why?

Because...

Watson will have to go full Matt Schaub and throw 2 pick 6's for the Raiders to get to 27.
The Raiders offense is actually pretty good. Ranked 9th in offensive DVOA, 6th in yards per play. It's their defense that's one of the worst in the league.

The Raiders have had recent success running the football. They won't be able to run the ball on the Texans. Unless the Texans have turnover issues, the Raiders won't break 20 points today.

Texans defense blitzing more in 2019 because the game plan calls for it
By: Mark Lane | 22 hours ago

The Houston Texans are blitzing more in 2019 than they were last year, but defensive coordinator Romeo Crennel says it is simply what the game plan calls for.

In 2018, Houston blitzed 24.9% of the time, the 15th-most in the NFL. In 2019, they are blitzing 36.8% of the time, the sixth-highest blitz rate in the league.

“Every week we look to see what we think will work and what we need to do to try to slow down the opposing offense,” Crennel told reporters Thursday. “Sometimes that means we rush a linebacker, sometimes we rush a defensive back, sometimes we just let [defensive end] J.J. (Watt) rush.

“It just kind of depends on what we think that week about what we need to do. If we are rushing the linebacker more this year than we did last year, it’s just because the game plan calls for it.”

Part of the risk in rushing defensive backs, or even linebackers, is that it puts more pressure on the secondary to cover as they won’t have the help they normally would in a conventional defensive play-call.

Said Crennel: “Generally when you rush the extra guy, you’re rushing him to get pressure on the quarterback and hopefully by rushing him he can pressure the quarterback, which then helps the guys on the back end. If rushing him, they pick it up and we’re not able to pressure the quarterback, then that puts more stress on the guys on the back end. So, it kind of goes hand in hand.”

If Stills and the TEs get involved, this game is a blowout in our favor.
If that BS offense shows up we eek out a win.

About to head over there still hurting from last night. Would love to see some board members there. Haven’t been to a game in forever and the only tailgate I’ve ever partied at was the blue crew. Grandma (shetexan/Sandy) I hope and pray I get to see you!

These 3:25 start times suck. They mess up my sleep since I work nights, especially since the Astros will be starting at 7 tonight depending on the weather in Washington.
Either way, just over 2 hours to game time for the Texans and just under 6 hours for the Astros!

Go Texans!
