He's certainly no Duane Brown. What's really grinding my gears is we still don't know what we have with Howard and never will. As the second lineman taken in the draft, somebody thought he had talent. Instead of exploring that talent to see where he fits in the NFL, he (and everyone else) was given the Sua'Filo treatment, and half way into the season has the coaching staff decided where to try him (and everyone else) next? Tunsil might have been completely unnecessary if we had real coaches, but we'll never know. Howard might have been a real LT if coached properly at the position, and instead we could possibly have thrown a couple second round picks at a mauling RT to compliment him. As only one person continues to draw my ire, and consistent coaching failures, I call Tunsil a fail so far in that he hasn't been worth two firsts. I'm not pointing to any faults because he's been ok, but 2 firsts needs to be "that's who we lean on for 10+ years" - not "could be better and contract".
We've spent so much money and picks on linemen, and they all turn out the same way. Fix the root of the problem. I mean no ill against Tunsil, it's not his fault how we got him. He's good ... strong hands, good feet, position and leverage are solid - hardly a flaw in his game. Better hips and drop than he has drive, but still solid. He's really good, and at this point is 100 miles from special ... in my opinion. I saw more out of Charles Spencer's preseason than I have with Tunsil. He's still young and has potential to grow into special (with coaching), but at the moment, he's "good".
