State of the O-line

Decided to go with it as when talking rather than typing, auto edit kept using it rather than his name which I had saved. On another point if we had taken Dillard who would have been our left guard? Would RJohn be as good at OG as he has at LT? I am still good with it as is. I choose not to Live in what may have been especially as what did occur has me optimistic.
Sharpie works for me. I'm optimistic as well concerning our OLine. I think we have enough talent there and depth that we should be able to see the potential in BOB's offense. The longer it takes to settle on which guy will be in which position will delay how longs it takes for everything to come together though. Hopefully they figure it out soon.

Another aspect that I like with Rod Johnson at left tackle is it should remove the need to trade Clowney for TWilliams. We can stick with lower value options in a trade.

I think we may be past figuring out a way to sign Clowney long term though. TWilliams is the only trade I see happening this year as Washington is in a tough spot as well and that trade would be ideal. I'm still not sure what we have in Roderick Johnson other than he appears better than Davenport. I really liked the effort he showed last week. Dude's giving it everything he has to be our #1 LT.

I think we're going to expect him to play on the tag.

Then we're going to tag him again next year.
I think that's how it turns out as well. But don't you think that they'll try to make something happen w/ TWilliams this year, and see what other options are available next offseason?

If Trent Williams was in the mix it'd be done already.

jmo
You're probably right. I'd be really surprised if anything develops there as well, but it's the only trade I see this year that makes sense from the Texans side of things and it could be an intriguing out for Washington as well if they feel like they can extend JD past this year.

Gotcha. Before TC reporters are told which draft day trade rumors they can/can't report on.

Kyss, If you live in the Houston area, watch Channel 2 News Sports tonight. Short clip of O'Brien addressing the media. I think it's the 7th consecutive day that Kalil has been held out of practice for foot issue. One of the reporters asks if it is an injury that might keep him out of the Cowboy game. O'Brien absolutely erupts with "the NFL rules say I don't have to produce an injury report until the end of camp" ! O'Brien may not be a Bastard, but he never passes up an opportunity to an impression of one .... he's really quite talented !

Stupid questions is what Houston media does

Look for LTs that were on IR most of last year. That's most likely BO'bs next target.

I don't think it's a stupid question. Well, I think it's stupid they expect him to answer different than last time.

But we have guys here (myself included) speculating Kalil will be cut before week 1.

Now, if I were a reporter I wouldn't ask him in a press conference. I'd do some Fletchlikesht & dig through his trash.

Like I've said, they do this shit every damn day. What else are you supposed to ask that hasn't been asked every single day since camp started?

A guy misses his 7th straight day of practice...or however many it's been...OB just crowned him starter, what do you want a room full of reporters to ask?

It's all stupid anyway. No matter the question, great or repetitive, you're just getting coach speak, so what's the point?

I am still in for a trade for Trent just not for Clowney unless they want to throw In Scherf and we can add something. Also Detroit should be looking desperately for help. Then there is my fav the Raiders.

Says the guy that thinks Davenport is a viable NFL LT.

I like that too. However, it assumes that Henderson will stay healthy !

Yeah I'd like to see us get some more depth at that position. Scharping could kick out but I hate players, rookies especially that get moved around. The speed of the game, especially a small school, is enough to have to adjust to for most guys. But when you have to learn multiple positions, or even play multiple positions, you're on the field thinking more than you are playing. We still have a large amount of cash, I'd like to wait to see some of these surprise cuts and then pick some guys up.

Says the guy that thought Antonia Brown would be good for our team, says the guy that wanted to make Trent Brown, after admitting he was middle of the pack, the highest paid Lineman ever, says the guy that wanted us to sign Solder.

After people talking about the issues with AntonioBrown I backed off my stance.

I would take either Trent Brown or Solder on this team today and twice on Sunday. I guess you're happy with Kalil and Johnson protecting Watson's blindside.

There won't be anybody worth a crap on the ww.

I remember that Monday night game in Mexico vs the Raiders when Chucky was still in the TV booth and how he raved about Clowney's play that night and Clowney
was indeed impressive in that game.
So if that's how Grueden really feels about Clowney then he might really be a candidate for a trade ?

While the knee-jerk reaction is disappointment that Houston missed out onAndre Dillard,Jonah Williamsand other higher ranked, pro-ready offensive linemen, both Howard and Scharping were top ten prospects according toWalter Football. So far, each has shown that tough work ethic, a desire to be the best teammate they can be, and all the other things Bill O’Brien’s culture looks for in a player. Is either one as polished as Dillard or Williams? Not yet. Is either one going to be the nextDuane Brown? Mmm... the Magic 8-Ball says “Reply Hazy, Try Again.”

However, it’s easy to confirm that both appear to have a huge upside. While neither might be the Pro Bowl level guys Houston needs in 2019, having them grow withDeshaun Watsonover the next 5-10 years should pay huge dividends.

OK so a couple post preseason game 2 comments in their rose-colored shades by our friends at BattleRedlog about our 2019 OLine Draft picks.

They were really fanning those flames on the radio yesterday . Lopez said Dillard was the consensus #1 OT in the draft even though he went #22 .

The reality is the cards are dealt and you play the cards you have .

Offensive line projection

Starters in bold. Positions I believe they are comfortable playing and have at least seen them have some success at during camp. I projected eight players. They kept eight players last year in a more dire offensive line situation. I don't see why that can't be the case again.

Matt Kalil (LT)

Tytus Howard (LG)

Nick Martin (C)

Zach Fulton (RG,C,LG)

Seantrell Henderson (RT)

Max Scharping (RG)

Roderick Johnson (LT,RT)

Greg Mancz (C)

If Scharping doesn't start, it's a shame. I would even consider kicking Howard to LT with Fulton at LG with Scharping at RG.

But I think Fulton gets the shaft in the end.

Johnson Howard Martin Scharping Henderson as the starters

Coach speech says they will start the 5 best OL'men. If not just a bunch of hooie, Fulton beats out Marton at OC.

The Texans, Eagles or Ravens. I'll take either a GM or HC or owner of any of those three. Then I won't consider it speculation.

Then everything is speculation

Including God'ells stuff that's ruining the game. The Texans dysfunction, anything an agent says etc....

That offensive line would make me nervous. Basically 3 guys who are rookies and a bunch of guys who are always injured.

Kelemente and Davenport aren't great but at least you can count on consistent mediocre play. It can be much worse.

Only Fulton is a guy who is proven to be good and healthy in the NFL

When I see videos of Nick Martin, I think, does he ever work out? I cannot see him strong enough to handle the better NT. Give me Fulton at center. Roll with Howard at LG, Fulton Center, Sharpie RG, Rod Johnson at LT and Henderson RT. Davenport can swing if needed or we put Martin or Mancz in and kick one of the rookies out if injuries happen

We have to disagree on this one.

Remember RapSheet/Glazer reported the Texans dysfunction which turned out to be true.

These people are professionals

Lol professionals, so they get paid to do what we on this board do for fun. All you have to do is watch or read the national news for 10 minutes to see “professionals” in action. The creditability of a “professional” is only as much as the listener agrees with them. If they agree with them then they are a professional with insider knowledge, if they disagree they are an idiot that just makes sh!t up.

Oh I’m not saying that everything they say is wrong or that everything they hear isn’t true, but you know what they say about blind squirrels. If you look at it the amount they get wrong it far our weights the amount they get right and they are very good at making their own guesses and speculation look like fact. When they do get something right they hype it up so much that’s all you hear and when they get it wrong they never mention it again.

Glazer is hardly a blind squirrel.

He rarely gets things wrong.

Payne has some of the best sources within the Texans org.
