Reminiscing on the good times...

2011 was badass we were physical on both sides of the ball and would punch teams in the mouth. I don't know if we would have beat the Ravens with a healthy Schaub because we all know at some point he would **** the bed when we needed him to make a play.

That's straight up BS. Schaub stays healthy 2011-12 they could have beaten anyone on any given Sunday.

Or Schaub could have crapped the bed, which he was prone to do.

We will never know. What we do know is they have never been close to sniffing a championship. BTW, the Eagles won a championship with their backup QB, why couldn't the Texans?

Eagles backup was a former starter and Pro bowl OMVP who had years of experience. Texans backup was a rookie with none

The Texans went cheap on the backup QB position and it bit them in the butt.

Because every team has a very high paid backup quarterback.

The good teams usually do

N.O. Teddy
Rams Bortles
Indy Brissett
Texans- I actually like McCarron alot as a backup.
Chargers- Taylor
Tacks- Tannehill

You will need a good backup QB in today's NFL.

In what world does is Blake Bortles a good NFL backup?

The Rams only gave him a 1yr 1 million dollar deal. That's peanuts for a backup QB.

He has won shootouts in the playoffs. How many QB's can say they've had that experience? Starting or Backup QB's.

That Bills game was anything but a shootout. It was ugly.

He played well in the Steelers win, I'll give you that. Then he returned to his career mean suckfest the following year after signing the big extension.

Still a good bet as a backup QB and McVay to help him improve.

Gary Walker was pretty good too. I didn't follow that 96 Oiler team because we moved to East Texas back then and they were never on TV, so until recently I was unaware that Walker played in the last Oilers games in the Astrodome while also playing in the very first games in Reliant/NRG. He went to Tennessee their first few years iirc and then he was really good a few years on the Jaguars defense when they were really good around that 99 season. I guess we got him through the expansion draft?

My two favorite times were the Dallas game (19-10) in 2002, just for the atmosphere in this city and the enthusiasm toward NFL football (which had basically flatlined in this city when Bud decided to move his franchise). That stadium was rockin'!

And then the first playoff game, which is by far the loudest event I've ever attended. Sitting near the endzone to see AJ's first post-season TD and JJ pick 6 are memories I'll never forget. Feel very lucky that I got a chance to bring one of my son's to it, too. Hopefully it'll be something he'll always remember, too.

I've got several other great memories, but I've also got some I'd just choose not to think about very often. VY strutting down the field yelling "this is my house!" and Rosencopter immediately come to mind.

Hopefully we've got many more ahead, especially with a young QB that appears to have the potential to bring this franchise to great things.

One thing that stuck out in this thread, and I'm not sure why member-on-member bullshit became a thing with this forum, but it's a damn shame.

Sad that we’ve only got a handful of games that count as “the good times”.

19-10 was huge, of course. Beating the Colts on Christmas Eve. Beating the Colts again on opening day with Foster rolling up 231 and 3. The playoff clincher against the Bengals even though the air was kinda out of the balloon after Schaub and Leinart went down. The playoff winner against the Bengals. The 5-0 start that turned into 11-1. And then the 57 spot they put on the Titans, and those few games there where Watson was blowing up the scoreboard.

That's the extent of the good times for Texans fans. Like the Astros and all of their good times before '17, it all gets trumped with a championship. Even 19-10, as special as that was, will fall second fiddle to just a trip to the Super Bowl.

The most recent one for me was flying to Seattle with my wife, my cousins and their wives, to witness the shootout between then rookie Deshaun Watson vs Russell Wilson. Man does Centurylink Stadium gets loud...

People were coming up to us just to say congrats on landing such an awesome QB in Watson As we were walking out of the stadium. Awesome game, awesome feeling!

I don't know I got a lot more than that.

Aaron Glenn almost single handedly beating the Steelers in Pittsburgh in 2002 even though the offense put up stats that look like something from 1930's NFL

Both of the wins over the Titans in 2004 to me were just as meaningful to me as the win over Dallas in the first game. They got close to beating them in one of the games in 2002 and then they played a phenomenal game against them in the end of the 2003 season but fell just short in the end(and that was a great Titans team that year). So when we finally took their ass down in 2004 it meant a lot to me, that was one sweet win I'll never forget. But then later that year we beat them in Houston for the first time and it was just as sweet because David Carr brought us back from a 21-7 deficit if I remember correctly, Andre in his second year had some big time clutch catches to win the game.

The win over the Chiefs in Arrowhead in 2004 where Andre plucked a would be interception out of the guys hands to save the game and then the D stopped Priest Holmes at the 1 yard line for a glorious goal line stand.

The very first Monday Night Football game against Jacksonville 2008, felt like a coming out party for the franchise, excellent performances by Mario Williams(3 sacks, a forced fumble, and 5 tackles) and Steve Slaton. This was the game that got my enthusiasm back into the Texans, I don't think I've missed a game since then but before this I was just not as into those 2005-2007 Texans like I was the first 3 years after the roster completely turned over.

The heated win over the Titans early in the 2009 season in Tennessee, bunch of fights back when it was really a rivalry both teams were desperate and it was a dog fight, Andre had one of his greatest catches and we pulled out one of my favorite wins.

The win over the Redskins in 2010 probably my 3rd favorite Texans game behind the first playoff win and the Dallas 02 game, that great pic of Andre spiking the ball after the game winning catch, I believe in that moment he was truly the baddest ************ in the NFL and one of the baddest MFers in NFL history.

2012 the wins over Peyton Manning's Broncos in Denver and the dismantling of the eventual Super Bowl champ Ravens, also I have fond memories of the Thanksgiving Day win over Detroit with that one game winning drive where Andre took matters into his own hands. Also the win over Jacksonville where Andre won the game and produced the loudest crowd pop in the history of our stadium.

The comeback over San Diego on Monday Night Football in 2013 where Cushing had that epic interception return for a TD, still the biggest comeback in franchise history right?

The win over the Titans in 2013 was a personal one for me because my little sis passed away a few days earlier and it was a very hectic and stressful weekend dealing with everything planning funeral etc. sitting down to watch Andre pull out that win holding on to that game tying catch after getting kayoed just made me feel good that weekend, I needed it.

Some good ones in 2014, the JJ Watt pick six game against Buffalo, the Jacksonville game, really this whole season was mostly good times just to see what JJ Watt was going to do next, what a season.

Also the comeback over the Colts in 2016 on Sunday Night Football I enjoyed the hell out of that.

Bunch of others, a TON of "we almost had it" games that were so ******* good but we lost, I REALLY love my ******* football team though. Sure we got a lot to cry about and be sad about, things could have been way better but damn, Houston Texans are one of my favorite things in this life.

My point is, there's just individual games there for us to consider "good times". There's not a Steelers run in the 70's or 2000's. There's not a Cowboys run in the 90's. We just have individual games to point too.

I forgot the win in Lambeau in 2008 where it was like 0 degrees, that was another great game that Andre won for us
What about when Lorenzo White got injured and we found out that Gary Brown was awesome that year?

One day I'm going to write a book about the 1993 Oilers and I'm going to call it "Whoop!, There It Is" because I can't think about anything 1993 without hearing that ******* song in my head. SHAKA LAKA SHAKA LAKA SHAKA LAKA!

Quoted for truth and the Texans will never get to this level with he McNair's owning the team.

But hey, the tailgaiting is great.

Are you seriously saying there has never been any one game that you enjoyed watching, or any memorable moment (in a positive way) from all the years of being a Texans fan for you? I truly find that hard to believe. If that’s the case then I doubt you ever were a fan. Nothing wrong with that by the way, as there is no rule that says you must be a fan of all Houston teams. But I know I’ve witnessed quite a few awesome games live and on TV that I’m glad I got to.

Yeah because both of these franchises did their “team of the decade” runs during their first 15 years of existence.

Seriously man, whatever this is with you, get some help. You’re singlehandedly running this MB with this incessant tripe.

Yeah, but to be honest, I’d rather hear Yoko Ono singing Chipmunk songs than hear that Houston Oiler fight song again.

Will you please pass me the pom poms

I've had a great time and made many memories.

Do you consider the Texans to be a well run football operation? I don't.

I think the organization was ran the best way humanly possible with what they had to work with. Bob’s church boy vision of the team is what kept a championship away from the city, in my opinion. Now, while I’m not making any outrageous claims that times are changing, I do think THINGS are changing in the building. Cal seems to be doing whatever he can to build a strong front office the way the big boys (NE) have even if it means stealing their guys. If, and BIG IF, Easterby and Caserio were instrumental to the Patriots success then I’m all for them bringing all of it down to Kirby.

One thing’s for sure, O’Brien’s leash is probably about a third of the length it used to be and I couldn’t be more thrilled if it turns out to be the case.

He is the Johnny Appleseed of starting the same sh!t in every thread and then wants to lament our buddy being gone, implicitly for threads going off-topic.

Go sh!t your appleseed.

I'm certainly not in the group of posters that has caused this. But believe whay you will.

Hurricane/Boat thread.

I wish there was more than a 1st rd playoff win or 2/3 to reminisce about. That's why this thread is a fail.

Reminiscing about the good old days when it was possible to get excited about the Texans' pre-season preparations. With TC coming up in less than 3 weeks we're forced to repeat the expression the GI's adapted during WWII and say "moxnix". The FO is in such disarray it is, as somebody previously described, a dumpster fire.
