Reminiscing on the good times...

Mangler

Toro de España
Remember when we were treated to a hell of an opening day September 12, 2010? Although it seemed like a one man show, Vonta Leach (Full Back) did a hell of a job ramming anyone who tried to get to Arian Foster, keeping the lane clear for him pretty much regularly. The offensive line showed up to play, and played hard!

231 yards on 33 carries, including 3 TD. Boy were we spoiled by Arian Foster.

Here’s a quick summary vid. For those with ADD, don’t you worry. It’s not a long video at all. I promise! Anyway, good times...

Broke through?

LOL
Making it to the playoffs for the first time was a pretty big deal for Houston football. All we had was failure before that. Losing season after losing season. By the way, this thread is about reminiscing on good times, as it reads. You may have your own personal ones, and judging by your posts hoping and praying that Watson suffers a broken neck just so you can say "I told you so," I'm almost certain a good time for you was when Schaub got his foot destroyed.

Look at whose being the Debbie downer now.
Can’t state a lie. That record was real. BTW the “run” just ran for two years and culminated in what I feel was one of the most disappointing seasons given the hype of a 12-4 record. When all your supposed ducks are in a row and you crap out late in the season to lose your #1 seed while exposing the fans to the letter jacket junk, that season ended up feeling horrible because that letdown just seemed insurmountable and I believe was instrumental in BG’s remake attempt on the size and style of our roster. This is ground zero for all my optimism...building through the draft and drafting for need is the foundation to build on.

We went 6-10 that year.

Watching games, we were more competitive that year than any year in the Bill O'Brien era, even with a historically terrible defense.

That season was so incredibly frustrating. Especially the stretch of San Diego, Jacksonville and New York which we all lost in ridiculously unfathomable ways. I even punched a hole in my wall after the Jets game.

And it was still better watching those games than anything during the Bill O'Brien Era of Impotence where even division titles didn't mean legitimacy, relevance, or ability to compete.

What the hell did us going 6-10 that year have you do it with Foster having a monster game? Now, I’d understand if the topic was talking about the season record, but your “we went 6-10 that year” response was pointless. I guess you didn’t understand the topic or something. That’s my bad, I’ll try I explain a little more sloooowly next time.

What the hell did us going 6-10 that year have to do with that game being Foster’s coming out party? I'm one of those Texans fans that has a bunch of good memories. People on this message board are about as miserable as I've ever seen lol, I can imagine they live in squalor and their lives really suck they never get any vagina and work at a fast food joint, this is the picture some of you guys paint for me with your constant misery haha. Way to go Mangler I like the old school posts/threads, sure beats the whole lot of nothing that is going on right now on this message board. The good times should definitely be celebrated more you just don't see it around here those who do it usually get shot down by haggle load of involuntary celibates that dominate this message board.

Sure there has been a lot to be down about but I've had a lot of good times too I've been a diehard since the first 2 preseason games in Reliant in August 2002 and have piled up a lot of good memories over the last 17 years. That stomping of the Colts on opening day 2010 was a good one. Didn't realize it until lately how much of a ******* monster Vonta Leach was, ******* glorious fullback, that's the kind of football I like.

It was just so glorious of a beat down, after the Colts had owned us so many times for 9 years before it. That 2010 offense was really something looking back. The Monday Night game against the Ravens I have recently gone back to rewatch on NFL Game Pass, our offense was on the level where they could make a comeback against that Ravens D where they had like a 95 and a 99 yard drive against Suggs, Reed, Lewis et al to tie the game up and put it into overtime. Of course Schaub threw the pick six to lose the game but those 2 drives where clutch as **** and really said a lot about how good that offense was and how good it could have been.

Ok here's one that I know a lot of people won't agree with me on but the off season where we signed Osweiler was a high point for me. In hindsight it was a disaster but for that one, shining off season everything was coming up Texans. For the first time ever Texans had gone out and gotten the best they could and actually outbid and out maneuvered another team and not just any team but the defending champions with a HoFer as GM. Stop and think about that, we signed away Manning's heir apparent from the SB winning team that was going to largely be intact.

Not only that but everything showed that Osweiler was a serious starter, he went toe to toe with Brady and NE and won. He did get benched for Manning but you could have made a case that it wasn't his fault on that. On top of all this we signed Miller who had made us look like a Benny Hill skit when we had played Miami then we drafted a speed demon of a WR that was going to force teams to cover him and finally allow Nuk to only have a 1v1 match up which he could win almost every time. So in one off season we signed a shiny new QB that looked like he was on the verge of being a top shelf QB, maybe not elite but good enough to put points on the board given who his WR were, a new RB that made us look like fools when we played against him and he wanted more carries and wanted the ball and a new WR that was a perfect second to Nuk.

Yeah that was a fun off season...…………..to bad the actual season sucked.

Foster did have a great game and IMO was easily the best RB, when healthy, we’ve had. But his debut paled in comparison to Watson’s. And nowhere after that late blowout season did I ever manage an ounce of optimism as I now have seeing a healthy DW with a super QB coach that coaches to his style. That 2012 season was the tipping point for me. We were exposed and pummeled late. Finesse O and soft D.

Foster is my favorite Texan of all time. The Baltimore playoff game in 2012 is his signature moment in my eyes, even though it was a loss. He carried us through 2011 and 2012...just a monster.

Without the soft tissue injuries, he may have been a HOFer. He was run into the ground those first three years.

Going back to some tired old sh!t that you couldn't understand that I didn't literally mean I wanted him to get his neck broken. I should have been more specific for the mentally challenged I guess.

My favorite Texans game was watching a Yates lead team beat Cincy in Cincy to make the playoffs with fellow TT members at Bubba's.

Yeah and when we snapped their undefeated streak. We should sign Yates to a one year contract any year we play the Bengals.

1st & last time we had someone who believed he belonged in the end zone. Well, WFV seems to like it when he makes the game.

OMG this is one of the funniest post ever! And you are serious! Now whenever one of this board’s involuntary celibates paint up and hijack a thread with their miserable hate we can now just say...haha you live in squalor and your life really sucks and you work at a fast food joint and you NEVER get any vagina haha! Golden!

I remember exactly where I was watching that game and my exact reaction. Freaking incredible. TJ sacked up and won it. I'm getting all tingly thinking about that game! lol.... ah, the good times!

Haha, yeah I can't help it it's just the image I get in my head when I read some of the depressing drivel on this board from people who are supposed fans of the team. Most message boards are like this, whatever the forum is about there are usually more miserable fucks being negative about the subject than there are "fans" of whatever the forum is devoted to. Message boards in general are dying so the only inhabitants still hanging around them are mostly a special breed of miserable, basement dwelling neckbearded incels. And yet, here I am. I love the Texans and hate Facebook and Reddit so yeah.

For me I have a lot of nostalgia for the 2004 season for some reason. I just really loved that team and was just gushing when we swept Tennessee that year, the Petey Faggins moment where he had the pick six against Jacksonville and stood up on the wall, the primetime game against Bret Favre where we lost by the field goal that BARELY made it in, the little stretch there where we won like 3 out of 4 games and David Carr was looking like he could be something, and I loved watching that defense when it was on Jamie Sharper and Aaron Glenn were just awesome. And I still swear that shootout with Minnesota that year was one of the best Texans games of all time(one of those epic games that NOBODY saw since it was not broadcast anywhere outside of Houston or Minnesota and there was an Astros playoff game going on at the same time so a lot of people in Houston probably didn't even watch it, even after the game it got little to no coverage on highlights it blew my mind how under the radar that game flew for being so damn good). Good times, that was a fun team to follow that year, really I got a lot of love for those 2002-2004 Texans they had a lot of heart but they had to learn how to crawl before they could walk, then it was like their legs were amputated in 2005, wow they were bad. I just didn't have the same attachment to the 2006-2008 team it was like all my guys were gone overnight and it wasn't the same team at all, they just didn't have the same charm? Sage Rosenfels and Ron Dayne anyone?

Does anybody remember the very first Monday night football game against Jacksonville in 2008? We really showed out that night it was so awesome, I wish I could find that one.

I know this was a losing effort but one of my favorite games was against Baltimore. Down 21 twice then back to back 95 & 99 yd drives with a 2 pt AJ conversion to tie the game and go to OT. Epic offense and a great defensive stand.

I just watched that game on NFL Game Pass a few weeks ago, it was really something, those drives against that defense were really eye opening as to how good that offense was/could have been. I think AJ caught the touchdown and Jacoby Jones caught the 2 if I remember correctly though, it was an AMAZING catch. What a phenomenal game.

Message boards are no different than talk shows. People don’t call in to talk about great plays, decisions, etc. They call in to talk about what went wrong, what they think needs to be done to make it better, blah, blah, blah. That’s just the nature of these things. Has nothing to do with being miserable fucks with no lives flipping burgers and living in mom’s basement.

I mean, just imagine coming here and reading through 179 pages of all the great things O’Brien has done the last 5 years. You think that would be good radio/reading?

I’ve never read a Patriots MB so I wonder what they complain about. Is it all just lollipops and rainbows? Then again I don’t really give a fuck about anything Patriots, so who cares?

And yeah, message boards are somewhat of a dying breed, but that’s only because of the million other avenues out there. The replies on Twitter are no different than here.

Everybody’s got their opinions and they come to places like this to have them heard. It’s when people think their opinions are gospel, think they know more than those who do it for a living, or they’re just flat out trolls, that turn it into a lot of the garbage you see here.

Not saying there aren’t basement dwelling, hairy necked, miserable fucks here though, but that isn’t what it’s about.

True,

But there are many posters on here that could've done a better job drafting than RS did in his over a decade here as GM.

I've mentioned many times that crennel does a great job.

What are the great things obrien has done? What are his strengths as a head coach?

Seriously guy this is some hilarious talk. Neckbearded...lolololol! I get the same image but I could never say it with your type of poetry. Priceless, thanks for the laughs.

Ron Dayne. One of the oddest RB’s we ever had. Slow but hard to knock him off his feet. Unfortunately my best remembrance of him is when he ran up the back of the leg of one of our promising OLman and ruined his career.

Dayne was 29 at his oldest with the Texans. Ahman Green was 31.

I enjoyed many of the games that have been posted. Favorite is still the franchise opener vs. Dallas. The crowd was insane. The future was bright. Gary Walker screaming at Jerry Jones. I don’t think I’ve ever been filled with as much joy and optimism after a football game.

Man! I remember that like it was yesterday. Mainly because I was there with my parents, my younger brother, a group of 4 friends, and 3 of my cousins that I’m very close to. It was an insane crowd, and the win against Dallas (whose fans talked so much crap in the lead up) made it that much sweeter! That’s probably THE best Houston Football memory for me. That, and our first playoff win a close second.

Yes and thank you. But as a Moderator you should understand I said oddest, not oldest... Saint Shinobi please help me out here!! Edit. Lol haters see what they want to see so...you live in squalor and you get no vagina, haha.

It was a different vibe in that stadium back then, it was god damn electric. I went to the first two preseason games that Summer and that had to been the hottest crowds ever for preseason football, it was like playoff games. I remember the second one against Tampa they backed them up into their own end zone at one point(the end zone I was sitting at) and the noise was the loudest I've ever heard any crowd.

The first game is still my favorite too. The best part was the look on Jerry Jones face after it was over, he was so ******* pissed I think he might have started crying.

Good times. I remember the long touchdown pass from Carr to Bradford you could hear all my neighbors in my apartment complex hootin' and hollerin', so awesome.

I want that ******* 1-15 sign, I would frame it and put it in my ******* living room.

I remember the 1st preseason game vs the Dolphins where it was 100° in the parking lot. There are 100's of pro tailgaters now, but no one knew how to tailgate then. My buddy had cut some aluminum tubes, welded some legs on the bottoms, hung a sheet over the tops, and made a makeshift popup tent. Everyone was staring at us, so jealous. I think that may have been the end of cash parking in the yellow lot, also.

Not a good time, more teething. God the traffic was so miserable for those early games. One of the 2002 preseason games we just stopped, had some wings and beers, and then went on to the game for the 2nd half.

Within a short time I was zooming into the purple lot no problem.

Watching that video, I paid as much attention to Leach as I did Foster. Leach was a beast! I loved watching Foster in the open field. His running style really reminded me of Eric Dickerson.
