Well, the GM search is on!

With the sudden firing of Brian Gaine, how soon should the Texans look to hire a new GM? I hope they’re serious about winning and go after legitimate candidates cause training camp hasn’t even started, then we have cuts and trade deadlines coming up. Y’all about weird ass timing...

Now, we've heard the rumors that Nick Caserio (Patriots) is at the top of their list, but why exactly is that? What makes him THE guy to pursue? Why not pursue (Eagles) Joe Douglas? Or pluck the Rams’ director of player personnel. We have the money!

I think I’ve seen enough of Butt Chin’s everlasting obsession in someday becoming Belichic. Nothing we’ve ever gotten from NE has ever worked, including our delusional HC. Hell, Cal McNair just sent Frantzy Jourdain packing so what makes him think another NE castoff will work THIS time?

I really hope Cal goes after the absolute best available and doesn’t listen to our so called “HC.”

Douglas is the new Jets GM.

Not sure what "we have the money" means since only players are on the cap.

Xanders drafted Tebow & Osweiler as the Broncos GM. Just sayin'.

Oh dang, I missed the news! I meant we have the money to write him a check big enough to bring any GM we truly want. I really hope they steer clear of anything NE, but it looks like Ass Jaw has probably thrown another temper tantrum and has gotten his way. I other way to explain why Gaine is gone, yet he remains HC.

Do you have anything other than your personal dislike to base this on?

I almost forgot the long list of coaches and front office personnel that left New England and went on to have such amazing and successful careers. My mistake.

I was talking about your comment that OB must have had a temper tantrum and got Gaine fired

The power some seem to think OB has is amazing
The levels to which some, including you yourself, think O'Brien is merely an innocent bystander is ******* comical.

The guy who is constantly last man standing has power.

I don't think he's innocent, nor did I ever say that. I do think it's a bit ridiculous to think that he has the power to hire the GM of his choice on a 5 year deal and then has the power to ask McNair to fire him after 1 year because he changed his mind. 'Oh please Cal, do this favor for me, I'll get it right next time '

Cal is calling Uncle Rick as we speak
Agree! I'd be the least bit surprised if Rick Smith was named the Texans GM once again. He's had direct access to Cal and he's still the Godfather to Cal's kid.....this gives him plenty of opportunities to present his opinions of what he see's and what he might do differently. If RS is indeed is introduced as the GM, it'll be OB who's on the hot seat. It may only require a slow start by the Texans to finally cook OB's goose, allowing RS to finally name his HC for the team.

As I type this I'm not sure if it's the chorizo and eggs I'm eating or this scenario actually becoming a reality that has my stomach turning. This would be a massive disaster.

I like Pioli a lot. My ideal pick would’ve been joe Douglas. However all I ask in our new GM is that he’s aggressive, and has absolutely ZERO connection to Bill O’Brien. I don’t want someone who’s going to keep OB around first and foremost. Second, I want someone who’s going to show a sense of urgency and aggressiveness to build this roster around deshaun. The sun has almost set on this offseason, but there’s still a few moves NOW that we can make to win (Trent Williams, Pat Pete, Duke Johnson).

The new GM will likely have a good deal of cap space with a lot of contracts coming off the books, and a lot of decisions to make extension wise. I know deshaun has 2 more years on his deal, but I’d imagine we have to extend him next year. Regardless, whoever comes in here will play a very pivotal role in our success over the next decade. New HC, big time extensions, a lot of cap room. The right guy could make or break our trajectory.

So, Pioli is out for you. Both he and O'Brien were with the Pats in 2007-2008.

That’s true. But, I do feel like he can be objective enough with OB to not blindly hold him here for no reason. And, he’s had a great track record of success as a decision maker

The only way I see any alignment with BOB is if BOB is his own GM. Let him do it for one year so BOB can't have any more closed door meetings with the owner where the GM gets thrown under the bus. Maybe they'll finally figure out who's to blame.

Top five prospects according to this ToroTimes article...

1. Scott Piolo - my personal fave. but don't see him coming here without guaranteed full control
2. Nick Caserio - haven't the Pats already said "no" to him interviewing for the Texans?
3. Mike Borgonzi
4. Scott Fitterer
5. Will McClay

except for McClay, I think they've all been mentioned by folks in this thread.

#1 on my list is Brian Schottenheimer.

Let him pick his GM since that's the way we do it around here.

Well, according to a recent report... The relationship between OB and Gaine has eroded. Weird, as they were aligned in the draft and both looked very confident about selecting Tytus Howard at 23. Maybe OTAs and rookie mini camp revealed something and OB immediately ran to Cal’s office to save his ass, yet again. Or maybe it had nothing to do with Howard. I’ll see if I can find a link.

" did I get the general manager fired? Signed Titus Howard
I imagine BOB explaining to Cal how things are progressing with their new OT's something like, 'tried em at OT and they didn't know what the hell they were doing so I moved em to OG and same thing. We just drafted a couple of duds.'

No way I'm buying that. The first and third picks may not have been O'Brien's choices but I cannot see him allowing those two selections if he thought they were as bad as you say.

I think BOB has been heavily involved in every player transaction but I also believe a different version of what's going on gets delivered to the owner as the GM gets tossed under the bus by BOB.

I saw the headline about an eroded relationship but when I read the article there was no mention of it. Do you have a source where McClain specifically says that? In the last triple threat podcast, from yesterday he pretty much says it was not over any conflict with BO'b

I imagine that OB is very involved with every single detail that happens with the Texans but has plausible deniability if things go sour. He just seems sneaky to me. Dishonest.

Based on absolutely nothing and pure conjecture pulled out of my arse, OB & Gaine were copacetic and then Cal was 'fu@k this 3 more year plan' and OB shoved Gaine under the future Subway commercial.

@HaveMercy is "future Subway commercial" offensive? Could have gone with future cardiac stint, gravity enhanced owner, bowling ball on legs, baby rhino, waiting for a moon owner or dickdo owner, or The Mohel. Preference?

Yes I can definitely see gaine and O'Brien being okay with an extended three-year plan. Regardless of anything else I'm hoping that Cal definitely is against a wait till next year plan of any type. A determined to win Cal McNair is what I want. As the roster now stands, I am in a low grumble mood. June can turn into a good month. Unfortunately I strongly believe that I will be looking forward only to better training from coaches and Player Development with a " Here We Go Again approach" rather than a He'll Yeah!

It does appear that every time something goes a little sideways someone besides O'Brien gets shown the door.

I wonder if the offense isn't up to Cal's expectations how long before our new OC gets the O'Brien treatment.

How is Devlin immune?

Been thinking this for a long, long, long time.

He's a scam. Everything about him is a scam.
