Passing Through
I hope you're right but the shelf life of an NFL player is much shorter than MLB or NBA because in those sports you don't have a 300 lb guy doing everything he can to push your face into the ground every game.
NFL collisions are brutal. And it's not just the collisions. I remember as a young guy being on the sidelines at an Oilers game. The tight end, Alvin Reed, was running full speed towards where I was standing. He stretched out in the air, doing everything he could to catch a ball that was just a bit too far. He missed the pass and smacked HARD into the ground and, with his arms still outstretched, slid a few more feet. I can still hear the grunt and impact with the ground. SMACK! Alvin got up, looked at me, and trotted back onto the field for the next play. That REALLY had to hurt, and there was no other player involved. I knew right then and there that I wasn't cut out to play tight end.

I’m excited that multiple sources are pointing out the passing potential of our offense. If our WRs can stay healthy and the TE group is used well, we have excellent potential to be a top offense.

I’m also encouraged that Foreman is looking good. Hopefully when the pads come on he’ll continue to impress.
IF healthy is the big sticking point but DW4 has as good a selection of weapons as any QB in the league. With Clowney holding out combined with the murderers row of QBs this team will face I predict a lot of shootouts like Mahomes and the Chiefs were engaged in last season. Lets hope the weapons stay healthy so we don’t bring a butter knife to a gun fight!

I am optimistic heading into the season. If the receiving corps can stay healthy and with even a small improvement on the OL, this should be a high scoring offense that can march up and down the field.

The moves they made on defense has the potential to fix the secondary problems. With better coverage in the secondary, the sack and pressures will go up as QBs will have to hold onto the ball longer before the receivers get open. Last year, good QBs were able to get rid of the ball too quickly, too often, for the pass rush to get to them.

Love him and respect him all you want. The fact to the matter is, he makes both the same mistakes/play calls after 5 years at the same job and is too stubborn to change. Just because YOU choose to have him on a mile long leash doesn’t mean we’ll all agree. Of course, I speak only for myself.

Now, that doesn’t mean I don’t want him to get his head out of his arse and right the ship. It’s just that it’s obvious that he has plateaued. But hey, maybe Watson grows under Carl Smith and takes full control of the offense to get us to the promise land IN SPITE of O’Brien.

100% agree with this post. When we turned the season around after going 0-3. I was his biggest cheerleader. But it was still alarming to me on how he continues to make the same mistakes he made in his rookie HC year. His team still approached the playoffs with a very lackluster mentality on all phases of the game. The Colts made adjustments each time we played them. So why didn't we make the neccessary adjustments to counter what we knew the Colts were going to do.

Or the Colts are just alot better and more talented than the Texans.

Faster, for damn sure.
Speed of the offense in Indianapolis has definitely been a problem for the Texans defense. The Texans picked up a couple of long, speedy corners in the draft and picked up some good guys in free agency. Hopefully, they can be taught what they don't already have to be successful at the position and keep up with, and defend against speedy receivers and backs.
We'll see soon enough. And on the other side of the ball, hopefully, the speed of Fuller and Coutee as well as some of the other young receivers can be utilized well by Watson and most importantly, stay healthy.

Speedy CB's in the draft? L. Johnson ran a 4.52 at the combine and while that's certainly fast enough to do the job, it's hardly speedy.

Good CB's in FA? Roby/Colvin?

Might want to go checkout their stats and watch some video from last yr.

It's faster then what was on the roster before, and the free agency pick ups are also better then what we had before.
The only thing is the Honey Badger and Jackson. They were good. And it's tough to lose them.
I just think that the defense might have gotten better in spite of losing those 2.
They gained some speed and length.
It might be just enough to make the secondary much better then it was last year.
All they need to do is cover the receivers just a fraction of a second longer to allow the defensive front to get to the quarterbacks. That's going to be important considering the quarterbacks they'll be facing this year.

See this is what kills me about people complaining about the two we lost and then replaced on D. They couldn't keep up with speed, and made Hill look like a HoFer" yet we wanted to keep them and not replace them? That is the definition of insanity, our two replacements may suck much worse but at least they are trying to address the problem by doing something different. As far as offense you hit the nail on the head with staying healthy, when all 3 WRs and Watson are on the field our offense, despite or because of BoB depending on you PoV, is, IMO, one of the most explosive and dangerous in the NFL. Hopkins catches anything within a two foot radius of him, Fuller if you blink he's 20 yards down field and Coutee is great as that guy that you don't want to focus on him, because the other two are such a problem, but he's to good to ignore. If the Oline can give Watson 3 seconds each play without having to scramble then I really think we are going to see some big numbers.

I said nothing about keeping them

I just said people should go look at Roby/Colvin's tape from last yr before calling them good FA pickups. Is that too much to ask?

Great post. This has always been my angle in my short time here. The FO IS trying to address past problems. Who could pick a way to hate that while whining “more of the same”? It’s ok to be positive. Doesn’t mean you are a blind Homer, but, finally, I see a fresh beginning, a break, something to follow. I find myself for the first time in a loooooooong time getting interested in the individual players, coaches and GM. Nowhere does it say it will be seamless. Bob Dylan sings that the darkest hour is right before the dawn. I’m seeing light.

I had a rule, talk to people, not about them. Really makes things better in a work place and life as it gets every issue in the open and sorted or at least both sides know where they stand. I know this is a message board, but it is more powerful to say things that you would to his face. I am not offended by butt chin, but think we had a poster just trying to say content is more powerful then name calling to which I agree, but humor and sports are also my getaway from life so I dont mind some well timed humor. Not many people rush to BOB's defense on some of his clock management and challenges, but I dare say he is slightly better than a few years ago so at least he is working the issue. If he let's his OC be the OC, he would have more time and focus to manage the game as well.

I think we were discussing OTA's again?
