Tytus Howard = Duane Brown 2.0???

Can Howard be as good as Duane Brown? Maybe not, but he doesn't have to be. I'll take him turning into a good, solid, top-drawer type pro for the next decade. The same goes for Scharping. These guys becoming perennial All Pro caliber would be wonderful, but after what our O Line has been lately, I'll take them just getting close.

You just said that Howard does not have to be as good as Duane Brown and then went on to describe Duane Brown.

If I'm Howard, I'd probably be hanging on Khalil's every word for insight. He might be the best OL Coach on the Texans.
Speaking of the O Line coaching, Devlin is still a bit of a mystery to me. He had to know something about coaching to get this far in his career, right? Can he learn and grow as a coach, or has he topped out on his personal development curve? Another post (?) referenced the Peter Principle which describes a man rising to his level of incompetence.
Is there an evaluation system for coaches? If so, where does Devlin fit?

You had me there, so I googled Duane Brown. He's been to the Pro Bowl 4 times. He's also been First Team All Pro once and Second Team All Pro twice. I'd be happy if Howard got close to that kind of career for 10+ years.
Guys have been talking about Duane Brown like he was the second coming of King Kong.

You may be confusing his injuries with another player I described.............maybe Mancz. Scharping has been essentially injury free.

Who had the labrum tear in the right shoulder?

Re. Scharping: An old injury (when answering above, was thinking in terms of a recent or ongoing injury). It appears that he is entirely over this problem. I just mentioned that in only theoretical terms preferring to minimize trauma to that shoulder the left side may be "kinder" to his shoulder............although this far out without any apparent problems gives him an excellent chance of having no further problems with it unless he of course suffers another independent injury.

Maybe at first and only if he can beat out D. Howard is more of a true LT than Scharping. I am concerned about Doc's thoughts on Scharp's injuries making him better left side. I had him slotted RT but may need play LG with Rankin shifting RG moving Fulton or becoming a backup one season. We just might be building an offensive line as we've hoped.

I had to dig deep to find an injury in Scharping, and have not seen anything written about it pre Draft.............he sustained a right labrum tear which he played with throughout the 2013 season. At the end of that season in Dec, he underwent a shoulder repair. The good news is that it went under the radar ever since, as he has not had any further problems with it. Despite this being the case, given a preference, I would still prefer seeing him at LT rather than RT.

Sorry for any confusion I may have created with the last sentence above.

Not too sure about the accuracy of this site:

Right near or at the bottom.....he's failed miserably at coaching up any of the OL. This could be due to OB's offensive system or lack of one. I think OB and Devlin could've gotten far more out of this personnel if they had incorporated a ZBS.

Evidently you looked at only the left side of the chart. At #16, he's ranked right in the middle, and was brought down severely by "sack value" which was mostly created by our talent level. Making up the other factor determining "total value" and final ranking, he ranked 5th of all OL coaches for "tackle for loss value."

If his goal is to collect a lot of money from desperate teams, yeah. Kalil is probably that guy.

But you don't have to be a pro bowl player to be a top tier coach. Gary Kubiak for example couldn't hold a starting job, but he knows how to coach an offense.

IE, Henderson may be a better mentor than Kalil.

If they really like a guy, they may be inclined to give pointers and tips.
Otoh, if they are on short contracts or feel the newbie may put them out of a job, they may be disinclined

This proves 2 things:
1. You have to be good to get on at NE. That's why NE is good.
2. Devlin's horrible performance at preventing sacks is more responsible than lack of player talent for the impending destruction of our QB. It gets me hot that nothing is being done about it. Where is Howard Mudd?
I don't see how anyone can conclude #2, especially when Davenport at LT and Lamm at RT were virtually the worst pass protecting tandem in the NFL........even with TE reinforcements.

not to mention other factors... ie. Watson holing the ball forever, no receivers on decent routes etc
Sometimes he holds it till he has to peel it and eat it. If the receivers don't know how to run pass routes by now....well.....it ain't professional football.

Linemen can't pass block, receivers don't know how to run routes and QB doesn't have enough sense to get rid of the ball.

So is it coaching, lack of NFL talent, or both?

Can we still blame our former GM?

Did firing our lead scout place the blame on him or was he just the sacrificial lamb?

Will Gaine get it all straightened out? Will Cal loosen up the purse strings?

Could Cak and Steelb work together and fix this mess?

Or would we just end up bankrupt and spend all our time in court?

Do we need a poll?

Us dumb-asses deserve answers.

Is it too soon to buy superb owl tickets?

yes to all of the above except #6

Excellent! I knew of none but thought you posted due to (upper body) injury he should play only left side. I thought comment was made during conversation of where Howard and Scharping should play. Thanks for correction.

Edit: ok read Doc's second response and am feeling better that I ain't going crazy and appreciate clarification, Cnnnd! Scharping looked good senior year but I prefer him on right side when he starts.
