I mean.. you (and others) are looking at this the wrong way. I highly, highly doubt this guy will see the field except for on special teams. They could roster him as a kicker, and it wouldn't change a thing. He is there for special teams.Gotta be honest, I was willing to stretch a bit on the extra te's because maybe one would be used as an hback/fullback. It would save us a roster spot and might be more versatile.
What did we do? Draft a freaking fullback.
Dislike this pick. Camp body. Throw away pick.

Seems like an athletic kid with the right attitude, for whatever its worth. A 7th round pick is fighting an uphill climb to make a roster anyway, I guess the FO is thinking why not take a chance on a kid who knows ST and wants to play there.
I imagine they will be making cuts at TE, for starters.Am I looking at this wrong?
Who are you cutting to keep him? The tight ends are all special teamers to.
Why would we do that? Theres no running back we could've drafted or signed that would give the production of Alfred Blue so no need for us to go after another RB.Shouldn't we have rolled the dice on a RB?
I don't think he's more talented than the te's we have. I imagine one will be cut. I also imagine Cullen will get the axe.I imagine they will be making cuts at TE, for starters.
Oh, I don't think this guy is more talented than one of the TEs on the roster. I do, however, think he (potentially) brings more value to the team due to his ST ability than the 4th or 5th string TE.I don't think he's more talented than the te's we have. Let's revisit this.
No harm no foul. I just think it's a wasted pick. Hit me up after the final 53. If I'm wrong I'm wrong. I don't think I will be.Oh, I don't think this guy is more talented than one of the TEs on the roster. Like I said above- 7th (and 6th, for that matter) round picks face a tough road to make the NFL roster. I wouldn't be surprised if he is cut.

#Aggies Cullen Gillaspia will start as FB for #Texans according to Bill O’Brien.

I assume he's the only FB on the roster?Haha, oh no, I'm wrong already.

I'm not going to look it up, but I think so.I assume he's the only FB on the roster?

YesI'm not going to look it up, but I think so.
If he makes the team.No need to poo poo this pick now. Texans signed Karan Higdon to play RB. Gillaspia is gonna be an upgrade over Prosch in what he brings to ST (where he'll play majority).
Buddy Howell, AJ Moore, Mike Tyson, Johnson Bademosi, Brian Peters all made team last season as core special teamers. Gillaspia blocked 2 punts last season and made 7 ST tackles, i'd say he's got a good shot.If he makes the team.
I doubt it. We'll see. I did say "if."Buddy Howell, AJ Moore, Mike Tyson, Johnson Bademosi, Brian Peters all made team last season as core special teamers. Gillaspia blocked 2 punts last season and made 7 ST tackles, i'd say he's got a good shot.
If Scharping is a project then basically every OT minus Jonah Williams is a project. Scharping is a ready made NFL OT.We chose a FB in the 7th round because we couldn't get this guy as an UDFA and have such a plethora of talented depth on the O-line? (That sentence was totally angry sarcasm for those that can't tell) We took 2 project OT's in this draft but still have a bunch of journeymen O-line protecting Watson. I'd have much more respect for the Texans if they swung and missed on more O-line talent, at least they would have tried. This pick reeks of nepotism, who's he related too? I give it an F
Not according to the scouting reports I've read. He has the size but needs to work a lot on technique, more than HowardIf Scharping is a project then basically every OT minus Jonah Williams is a project. Scharping is a ready made NFL OT.
Then we've obviously read/watched info. from different sources. Almost every evaluation I read says that he has limited athleticism and slow feet and is most likely a future NFL OG. TheDraftNetwork has him ranked #113, CBS ranks him #131, and WalterFootball has him as a 3rd or 4th round pick. I'm not saying they're right and I really hope he proves me wrong, but I sure don't see him as a starter at OT, right or left side.If Scharping is a project then basically every OT minus Jonah Williams is a project. Why read reports when you can watch film and make that decision yourself? The guy shut down 1st round draft pick Brian Burns this past season (0 pressures allowed), started every game of his college career and allowed only 33 pressures on 1,821 career pass-blocking snaps. I like the pick. I give it a good solid C. First, it was taken where it should have been, the 7th round. Second, the team had no FB on the roster and OB likes to utilize one. Third, his primary role as a FB in senior year was as the lead blocker for RB William's. Forth, he has fairly good hands for catching the ball. But Fifth, and most importantly, is his role as a special team's gunner. We chose a FB in the 7th round because we couldn't get this guy as an UDFA and have such a plethora of talented depth on the O-line? Compare his pro date statistics with Ingold and Wesco, two top FB prospects.Gillaspia is faster and quicker; and strength and explosiveness is their equal.
He should make the team, provided we do go with FB on the roster and will stand out on the special teams.
Yes a solid C.
Exactly. The price we paid is minimal so if he doesn't work out, we lose nothing but the 220th overall pick.I have no more expectations of a 6th or 7th rounder than I do a UDFA anyway.
Meh, maybe.Gotta keep Aggie fans buying those tickets
That's how I see this pick.
Would've rather had Hall.
Aggie jokes aside, I seriously hope no Aggie fan buys tickets (outside friends/family) because of a special teams demon wannabe...I mean I know plenty of Baylor alums (including a nephew) and they aren't sporting Jon Weeks, the long snapper went to my school, jersey.Gotta keep Aggie fans buying those tickets
That's how I see this pick.

I am generally surprised how much people care about the 7th round pick. They could have waited to sign him as undrafted free agent. Typical Texan late round pick. Would have taken a LB, Ty Summers Texas Christian, bigger stronger faster.
That’s because we’re surprised every time who they select. In this case every pick in every round!I am generally surprised how much people care about the 7th round pick.
If you consider the undrafted pool of talent and the handful that will emerge...I am generally surprised how much people care about the 7th round pick.
Joe Webb can play QB, WR and ST.
The Texans either intend to give another roster spot to a special teams player, or they’re saying that there is no one left in the draft that can masked this team.I am generally surprised how much people care about the 7th round pick.
Why take Summers? Just sign him as an UDFA. For that matter, why sign anyone in the 7th?They could have waited to sign him as undrafted free agent. Typical Texan late round pick. Would have taken a LB, Ty Summers Texas Christian, bigger stronger faster.
I know it's really early to be projecting rosters but just for the hell of it, at this very early time who do you see in the Oline group besides Tytus, Scharping, & Rankin ?The Texans either intend to give another roster spot to a special teams player, or they’re saying that there is no one left in the draft that can masked this team.
How many special teams only players (not including the kickers or snapper) are on the roster? Bademosi, Peters, Webb, Howell? While carrying only 8 offensive linemen and dressing 7? Yet the Texans still don’t have a decent returner? Unless they have Mr. Glass returning punts. I don’t think it’s just being upset over a 7th round pick. It’s a perception of not building a roster that’s developing talent.
Because he was drafted and LB was highly valued this draft class. Just saying if you want special teams depth/talent, get someone who can tackle, bigger body and near elite measureables. Why take Summers? Just sign him as an UDFA. For that matter, why sign anyone in the 7th?
