Maybe it would be better if he wasn't in the process of selecting players.
That way we can avoid players like Hoyer, Bang Bang, Blue, Griffin, etc.

That's true, and the way to fix that is a new head coach

No sh*t , no doubt!Man reading those comments makes me wish we would have fired OB along with Rick Smith.
I don't know what people would expect him to say publicly. I don't remember O'Brien ever saying that Rick would always get the players the coaches wanted. Many interviews with O'Brien. Here's one: https://www.battleredblog.com/2017/6/20/15835926/bill-obrien-interview-on-mad-radio-part-one
He says very explicitly that Rick would never get the coaches a player they don't want.

Mcclain chat today on FB:
-(Will Texans carry 4 TEs?) No. No guarantee Fells make the team but right away we see them sign him, OK, Griffin is gone. They like Jordan Akins & Jordan Thomas, both going into their 2nd year. I expect both to be better. Fells is a good blocker. He's a basketball player. A guy like that is usually finesse. Fells likes to block & hit people He's 270 lbs. Instead of an extra OL, you can bring him in & let him play that role. I don't think they'll carry 4 TEs.
He did want him. I remember him talking about watching a ton of film on him and saying he felt like he had everything they were looking for.If you actually believe that BOB wanted Os here I've got some ocean front property in Arizona to sell you.

If you truly believe this then why's BOB still here and why didn't they bring the former GM back?
Really, you're going to start that crap again? Can you just let that go already.
If BOB was responsible he would've been gone too is the point

Lol, this is all hindsight based. The fact of the matter is Oz was a former high 2nd round pick with pretty good measureables and a resume that included:
- a 5-2 record as a starter
- over 60% completion % with a little under 300 attempts.............................................so not a small sample size.
- 10 TD's 6 ints.............................................not great, but still on the + side of TD/int ratio.
- a win against the patriots in a critical game ...........................which wound up factoring HUGE in the donkeys SB run b/c it gave them homefield advantage over the pats who finished with the same record.
- SB champion
Then when you factor in all the off the field things like him being only 26 & having Learned at the knee from 2 of the very best to ever do it in Manning & Elway for 2 years, well spoken etc, etc....what BoB said about him wasn't exactly hyperbole or even wrong...............AT THE TIME. We've seen teams over the years before Oz (Schaub, the NFL draft) & after Oz (Jimmy G) get paid like franchise guys from teams who thought they too had everything they were looking for...& these were guys who'd accomplished far less than Oz.
Could, could and could ain't going to do shite if Gaine, OB and Devlin don't get this OL crisis figured out
The Os deal was always stupid based on how much money it was. Yes he played okay in Kubiaks system (which is very different from OBriens) but he was INT prone which is why he was benched for Peyton who could barely throw 5 yards at that point in his career.
If they could have gotten him cheap, then ok. But the money was dumb. And the rumor was the broncos would get close in total money but not in guaranteed money.
Then on top of that they trade a 2nd round pick to get rid of him when they could have cut him, and they didn't even use the capspace that opened up.

Just be patient. Let's see how things look after a draft with first & second round picks. Times are changing my friend.
Where exactly did OB give evidence of anything Brock did? I could tell you right now, I have looked at every prospect in the draft by saying "I looked at tape" or "he's a big, strong prospect"
I could BS my way through an interview just like OB did. If you believe everything you read or hear then yes, OB LOVED Osweiler.
Reading between the lines isn't very hard to do. The only tape he publicly said he watched was the Pats game and he was probably watching Brady, tbh.

This was actually the one time the Texans got off their asses and made a serious aggressive move and went out and stole someone in the middle of the night. It was disrespectful, it was sneaky, and it was strategically executed. That's actually the most proud I've ever been of the Texans organization from a free agency standpoint of deciding to go out and get their guy at all costs. I've never seen them do something like that ever in that type of manner. They went in like they were stealing cattle in the middle of the night or something on Elway. Lol! That was awesome. Elway was so pissed and Oz was talking trash the whole way out from there. Unfortunately it ended up blowing up in their faces and Elway got the last laugh.

False. He wasn't "int prone" as he'd only started 7 games to that point in his career. Furthermore, you're always going to overpay at the beginning of the FA period moreso if said FA is a qb; See Kirk Cousins. The reality is it was a move that had as much of a high upside as it did downside. They took a shot & they lost..it happens to every team every year with 1 player or another.
And that's where the problem lies, the coach should never pick the GM. A good coach makes the players fit his scheme, you don't pass on the BPA because he's "not a fit", you make him fit.
I want to have faith but at the same time we haven't had a line from day one.
What bothers me is they took their shot and lost and now it appears that they're afraid to take another shot.

I agree with you, but Belichick/Parcells/Walsh/Johnson disagree with you.
Devlin, the man who worked out Davenport being in charge of recommending OL prospects scares the crap out of me.
As it stands now, Kareem Jackson's compensatory pick will be cancelled out by Brad Roby's signing.Do we not get compensation for KJax?
The Texans traded two 2nd rounders and swapped first rounders to get Schaub.
Not only was he a far better QB who was a legit starter and made the pro bowl, it was also a much more reasonable cost.
There's a reason guys like Belichick don't often overpay guys in free agency. It's hard to really know a guy when he isn't on your team, and it usually costs too much.

- Manning came in because Osweiler was benched after struggling for more than two quarters against the Chargers. During his time on the field, Osweiler threw two interceptions and the Broncos turned the ball over a total of five times.
I know Manning was having a bad year. But kubiak trusted him more for good reason.
And osweilers career since then has completely vindicated that decisions.
That's why one dude is a real QB/offense guru and the other guy who has excuses (it's not my job)
Again with the hindsight. Lol “the money wasn’t that bad for Schaub”... no one was trying to give up that kind of jack OR draft capital for a guy with so-so to average measurables and only 1 start under his belt. We overpaid back then too, it just happened to work out for us..but even then it didn’t really “work” until the team was formed around him. His 1st few years under that “real qb/offense guru” he was total trash. His performance largely went as the team talent around him (AF27) did...in which case it was no surprise he went in the crapper as soon as the team around him began to crumble.
Having said that, That “real” qb/offense guru is the same one who kept trotting him out there to eventually set pick 6 records too.
The only difference between his decision to go with the aging over the hill veteran then and later with Manning is that it didn’t blow up in his face with Manning and he just happened to have a lights out defense to keep him in games........i.e. he lucked out.
I mean, Not that you care b/c your post history suggest it...but you need to stop it b/c you’re embarrassing yourself.
Schaub was held in high regard and was always in trade rumors
No one knew who osweiler was until kubiak make him look halfway decent
The only people embarrassing themselves are those defending O'Brien, one of the worst offensive coaches in the NFL who mangles offensive lines, starts and picks the wrong QBs, builds a 70s era offense,u and doesn't think it's his job to throw challenge flags or call tiemouts
If BOB was responsible he would've been gone too is the point, instead he got an extension and picked his gm
I dont do links and you remember so dont give me this BS.
It was the end of season PC.
If you want you can look it up.
Until further notice, O'Brien is the Brian Billick of this generation. A guy who got a reputation as an offensive minded OC, becomes a HC and fields some of the worst offenses in the NFL.
By what measure? YPG, PPG, Your own eye test?
In 2018:
15th in YPG
11th in PPG
11th in ToPG
14th in 1PG
2017:
20th in YPG
17th in PPG

Not amazing, but not one of the worst.
If they were holding people accountable for past deeds, BO'b would have been canned following the 30-0 Brian Hoyer fiasco that directly led to the Oz.
How about one of the worst for a playoff team?
Our offense dosen't scare anyone.
How many times this year did drives die on a sack or a hold?
As good as our defense is HOU seemed to always give up a 1st down on 3rd and long. Smoke and mirrors sometimes our stats look better than we are.
