Football connoisseur
We have seen the re-emergence of Andrew Luck this season riding behind possibly the best oline in the league. It took them time to gel but when they did, they became a monster and they are not only in our conference, but in our division.
The chances of winning the division for the next ten years just took a huge nosedive - unless, UNLESS, we can also build an oline for our QB. God knows he needs all the help he can get.
The Texans/Colts game last night was basically over after the first damn quarter. The effectiveness of the Colts oline was graphically illustrated on their first two drives and none moreso than the Marlon Mack TD drive. They just attacked one side of our Dline and Mack scored effortlessly. A top tier Corner Back would not have stopped him against that bullrush.
I would not be surprised to see these Colts go on to win the SB and be the new Patriots of the league.
Firing an 11-5 coach won't fix this Texans team, but hiring a new oline coach and drafting good oline help will.
Not having a first round pick last draft really hurt us as we could have had Nelson instead of the dang Colts. Best oline prospect in years and the Colts wisely snagged him.
Now they can leisurely add a good Dline player to their D from this deep class and heaven help us if they get another dangerous receiver on the other side of Hilton.
Get used to being the Colts whipping boys again until we resolve our Oline woes - it's going to be a couple of seasons until we can build our line and fix our D backfield.

I don't think you know what that phrase actually means..
The thing that makes the Colts Oline so dangerous is that they not only protect Luck, they attack your Dline and maul you.
And they can only get better. Already they have brought Luck back out of the doldrums and he will now reach his potential. Did you see how he just dominated the Titans too? Sat back there and orchestrated unstoppable drives with beautiful passing and a bruising running game.
And they already have a decent D.
Watch and see how good they become over the next 10 years.

The indy point is fair, but I was actually referring more toward the part of the post looking to address our oline issues..

..because no one's mentioned that as an area of need yet.

You forgot the

we dont need a grand ol $$$$$ o line because Watson is a mobile qb and we can get buy with having a decent oline

a lot of teams dont have a 100% pure 1st round picks oline

yeah adding a rookie all-pro OL and another rookie starter OL and an all-pro CB CB would maybe get us there... similar to what Indy did, along with 3 or 4 solid contributors

Thought JB's suggestion of an emoji would be a bit on the nose ... so ok, guess not.

Agree we don't have to go all out on the oline but we cannot continue to allow Watson to be the most sacked QB in the league - we have already seen him miss half a season and play another half of one injured.
A healthy Watson is a dangerous Watson.

Quite a few posters had Colts pegged as non entities.
That has been resoundingly refuted.
That was before he started throwing 10+ yard passes.

For six games he was averaging 6 ypa & we had a doctor telling us his shoulder was basically a rubber band & tissue.

When he started dropping dimes 40 yards down field I guarantee every buttcheek (& chin) in the AFC puckered up.

Don't forget they changed HC too. Got rid of the guy who ran Luck's arm into the dirt & got a guy who believes in "complimentary football" as more than a catch phrase.

I was always concerned considering if Luck should come back healthy - I knew if he did we would be in the same spot we were before he got hurt.

A healthy Luck with a good o-line and this division will look like it did back in the 2000s.

The Colts had everyone HEALTHY today, Luck was on fire, they had won 10 of 11, the genius Frank Reich calling plays, and they got their asses handed to them. Great defensive game plan by Sutton but the KC secondary stepped up today and blanketed Ebron, Hilton, Rogers, just shut them down with man. Point is you can stop them and keep it from turning into the Indy Mannings again but we have to build that back end and have the right scheme.

Sure you do but Chiefs also have a decent oline.
I couldn't watch another season of a dumpster fire oline and our QB getting sacked >60 times.

Fixed it and concur

My only point is that a great secondary CAN stop Indy. We just have to want to be great back there.

When we played Indy last week we had KJax (1st rounder), Jjo (1st rounder), Matthieu (1st rounder) & Reid (All pro) in our secondary.

But because our nickel corner sucks we gave up three TDs on the Colts first three possessions.

I just don't understand how the Chiefs were able to get so much more pressure on Luck to the extent that the tables were completely reversed from the Texans game.
One weak link in our secondary and Luck picked us apart - strange how Luck was unable to zero in on a weakness in Chiefs backfield. This suggests Chiefs pressure on Luck was more than what Texans could muster.

I'm willing to bet the chiefs spent last two weeks preparing for colts only lol

They did play a hell of a game today. Look like the 1 seed at home.

They were playing from behind. Defense was teeing off. Not much to it.

My point is I don't think it's a talent issue. We even have Watt, Clowney, & Mercilus to rush the QB, but we couldn't lay a finger on Luck.

Our scheme & our coaching let us down. I love Romeo Crennel, but he shat the bed & his head coach, his boss, just sat there & watched.

Bingo. What I have been saying. Can we use a young talented corner? Of course. But what we have is not as bad as we have seen. It's that defensive philosophy Crennel utilizes which is a bend and not break type of foundation. Ironically they just spoke before the Pats and Chargers game saying that is how Belikchek approaches defenses and that's what we're seeing. I can understand it when you have a playmaker or two on defense but we have (or had depending on free agency) a handful of defensive playmakers. You have to adjust to your talent and this secondary has more talent than the Chiefs secondary. There's no reason they were able to do something we could not. This defense should have been more forceful than it actually was.

I couldn't care less about Luck. It takes a team to win in this game. If it was only the QB then Rodgers would have more than one title and so would Brees. Truth is the Texans are the more talented roster compared to the Colts but we were outcoached. Simple as that.

Yup, at the pro level everyone has talent. It's the X and O that makes the difference. There are QBs like peyton , brees, brady that work and work to master their craft. JJ Watt works at his craft, hell J Joseph works at his craft. Texans always talk about great guys who love football, well our coaches can live football all they want, are they taking care of their part???
A question for Cal to answer....

Man I have a few beers in system, hope that rant makes sense after watching teams destroy others on their home fields
