..so who ya got?

Brees is due... Patrick is great but it's only 1 year

It's no

IT' isn't a matter of who's due, it's who played best this year. I to would like Breez to get an MVP, but this year Mahomes out played him by over a thousand yards. That is a boatload of yards over someone else.

But you and I don't get a vote... I was speaking as of what I believe will happen, not what I think should happen

But that is only one metric and largely in the hands of the OC rather than the QB. Brees was better in several others which are squarely on the QB. Most important, he just set the record for highest completion percentage (beating himself). And he did it when QBs are supposed to be dead (turns 40 within 2 weeks). Tough call.

I was going for the guy from Texas, but realized, they are both Texas guys. So I went with the the guy that's been in the NFL the longest, Brees.

Was actually going to comment while making this on the pretty extensive, and impressive, Texas representation at QB currently in the league.

Brees
Mahomes
Stafford
Mayfield
Keenum
Foles
Dalton
Luck
Tannehill

3 yards and a cloud of dust my arse..

7 on 7 changed Texas HS football forever. I would guess all of those guys other than maybe Brees played 7 on 7.

Absolutely. Those summer leagues took off like wildfire and all of a sudden the state is a qb factory. The whole 180 trend from glory-era running backs to air it out QB's pivoting on 7-on-7 would make for a pretty cool espn 30 for 30.

I voted Other, but never mind that.

Brees has thrown for 5000 yards FIVE times. FIVE FREAKIN' TIMES! That is insane. This year, he completed a higher percentage of passes than anyone ever has in NFL history, and didn't get to 5000 yards. So that's clearly not a case where another QB was better than him. It's a case of the offense being more diversified. So if yardage is your only metric, or your main metric, you're basically making the MVP award a proxy MVOC award (offensive coordinator). Consider this - if Mahomes had completed 74.4% of his passes at his year end YPC rate, he would have had 5739 yards, which would have been an NFL record. But he didn't. Brees was the better QB. Mahomes got more yards and TDs, but Brees was the better QB.

Excellent points on the Brees/Mahomes debate.

But would also like to hear who your 'other' is..

I just voted other because I despise the MVP award now. It's basically possible for a QB to have a "good" season and beat out any other player at a different position that had a better season. Watt had the best season we've ever seen a defensive player have a few years back. I mean, that season was truly transcendent. But the argument was all about how he couldn't win because the QB position is so much more inherently valuable. Well, if that's the argument, then ditch the award. And they gave the award to Rodgers in a season that wasn't even his best season.

Agreed 100%.

Should have a QB award the equivalent of the Cy Young (name it after Manning for the sake of modernity) and a 'positional' MVP all the same.

...except that Brees has thrown for 5000+ 5 times in his career. so it's not like they radically changed the offense. Those 50 TDs are fairly impressive. If your name isn't Brady or Manning, it's never happened to you.

Both have some fantastic metrics, both won more than one of them.
Mahomes had a rating under 100 in only 3 games, Brees had 5.
Brees never threw more than one Int in any game, Mahomes had 3 games with 2 or more.
Mahomes had no games with under 243 yards passing. Brees had 3 games under 200, with 2 under 130.
Brees only fumbled 5 times. Mahomes had 9.
Mahomes had 1 game w/o a passing TD. Brees had 2.

While I get the age argument, it goes both ways. Guys aren't supposed to have this great a season in what's essentially a rookie redshirt year either.

Both are definitely worthy. I won't be upset with either.
