Why Do I feel Disappointed For Some Reason?

You understand results. Not how results are arrived at. Be happy in your ignorance.
I guess the teams we beat just let us win.
I understand the Texans are mentally tough through all their adversity and that counts for a lot.
I also understand anything can happen on any given day.
I also understand we went 4-12 last season so there's that.
Do I think they will win the SB? Probably not - but I also understand that 31 teams wont.
I prefer to support my team in a positive way, rather than rain on everybody else's parade like a Debbie Downer.

I'm very proud of this entire team. They fought through all types of adversities. Starting the season off 0-3 with a 11% chance to make the playoffs. The offensive line issues. Suspect play calling throughout the season . The defense looking like crap for half the season. But they battled and won 11 games as well as won their strong division.

Great job team.

I know the texans turned it around. thats great. But they had a legit chance to have a bye and fumbled the opportunity twice. This just feels like another 1 and done year.

And of course they have to play new England if they win the first round of the playoffs.
You feel that way because the Texans won it in no way they can be proud of. Should never have come down to the last weekend. Without good offensive planning it indeed is one and done.

I have enjoyed this season greatly maybe as much as any previous Texans season...pretty sure that any ugly 11-5 season is better than 4-12 and discussing the draft and free agency by Halloween. When I get so sophisticated as a fan that 11 wins and a division title aren't "good enough" for me, I will walk away from this as a hobby.

They may play at KC, which is bad, because Crennel's D has never made a dent in Reid's offense. But there's hope in that Andy Reid often chokes in the playoffs at home.

Overall, I feel the same, meh, because of all the sacks given up, the missed opportunity to beat the Eagles and earn a bye, and especially because it seems like a fantasy to beat NE or KC on the road. Plus, I'm sick of the prospect of more Luck/Hilton. I'm already anticipating what new offensive linemen and WRs we can get in the offseason.

I think now that season is over and we won the division we all think this season was solid. The 0-3 start sucked but they rallied. We all know this team is flawed. But we hope OB cuts it loose. We all hope DW4 is Jordan. We all hope the D can force turnovers. Time for the texans to get after it

They just showed the playoff schedule. If the Texans win next week they face the Patriots. :choke:

Man that pisses me off. I mean luck and Watson. That's solid. I swear the nfl wants to pass on season tickets. How the bears and eagles get last game. Foles got hurt today

Philadelphia and Chicago are both bigger markets than Houston and obviously Ind/Ten

I wish people would stop whining about OB’s playcalling, but I know that’s too much to ask.

Having said that, if we have to play the Colts, we’re one and done. Andrew Luck is back to his former self, (which to me is the biggest surprise of the season) with multiple good receivers, and a far better offensive line. They will march down the field against the Texans porous defense like Nick Foles did in Philly game.

But even if that prediction happens, I’m happy with how the season turned out, thrilled that JJ made it back, and excited about the future.

Well if youd instead wish that OB would make better calls... everyone would be happy if your wish came true... just sayin. :kitten:

Yeah, we have to walk away from this season knowing not our moment but coming.....

I just don't like the Indy matchup. The loss last week stings. That bye would have been vital to any sort of run. Something deep down tells me we don't beat Indy at home. Reich owns OBrien. Luck and Hilton own the defense. I'm not sure Watson can overcome that much on his own against a defense that has roughed him up. Then all those "I told ya we didn't have enough" geniuses come out of the woodwork.

I'm disappointed because the Texans started 0-3 and adjusted our expectations for the season. Then they rattled off 9 in a row, granted against some weaker teams, but 9 in a row is still tough as hell. Then, they had one of those games that we all dread - a statement game. A game where they controlled their own destiny. A game where they could show the world what they're about. And in that game, they made a statement. They determined their destiny, and they showed the world what they were all about. They lost to the Eagles, and they looked like crap most of the way. In so showing the rest of the world what they were all about, they did what has kept us hanging on - Watson pulled a miracle out of his ass, which is becoming commonplace enough to not be a miracle,. and the defense spit the bit.

When they showed that graphic today about the Texans being 31st in the NFL in red zone defense, I was not surprised one bit. That and the OL going back and forth between bad and awful has pretty much been the season. So I am very happy about 11-5, because there's no way this team (as currently constructed) is as good as that record indicates. I am very happy, excited, and optimistic about Watson, as we all are. I am continually amazed at how awesome Hopkins is. I am also not blind enough to think that this Texans team should or would be favored against anyone they face in the 2nd round of the playoffs, and if TY Hilton comes to NRG for the first round of the playoffs, I can't say I have a ton of confidence either.

So the root cause of my disappointment is lack of any long term (this season) hope. And for much of the season, I had lost any long term hope. They had me going for a bit when I thought they could get the #2 seed and face anyone but KC here in Houston. But then they Texaned that all up, so ...

You know, pattern recognition.

When he stops sucking goat gonads folks will stop complaining.

What kind of cosmic moron knows he has a crap OL and even has a stationary double play fake on his card much less actually calls it?

Wow, that was informative. Stop acting like such a know it all jerk and quit whining.

I'm willing to quit whining when he starts calling better plays routinely. How about that?

Or he could feel that way as he sees 2018 as a positive step and good learning experience for team and fans. I do.

I'm most disappointed that our defense added Mathieu, Colvin and Reid and had Watt, Clowney and Mercilus the entire season, and the unit performed weaker than in years past and worse at the end of the year. Oh, and #70. When your left tackle is so confused as to where to go and whom to block, he becomes the ONLY obstacle to your QB running in a TD (Watson ran around that statue vs the Eagles), that's very poor.

But they DID win the division by a game when the division was much tougher this year--far more difficult than the Patriots' always-a-walkover division. You had 11-, 10- and 9-win teams this year.

I know why I’m disappointed....b/c there’s a sector of this “fan” base that can’t seem to be happy about anything..then wonder why this town is categorized as nothing but but bandwagon/front runningish....or get downright pissed when NRG gets taken over by the opposing teams fans...

I getcha. But like negative fans can choose to NOT watch the game, forum readers can choose to NOT click on negative threads.

It's fairly realistic; DW4 himself said after the win today that when he and O'Brien "really, really get on the same page" and we have all the offensive weapons are in place, the offense "can be very special." As in, we're not there yet. A couple good offensive linemen playing in unison and a healthy WR group will make a huge difference.

But maybe the defense will stay on fire vs QBs not named Bortles, and who knows?

u gotta boo leive we gotta handle our biz nas beat the colts then go up there and beat the pats then beat whoever is left

we just gotta make a run what scares me tho is if we make it to the SB playing the saints

but we have beaten the saints recently so I know its possible to beat them

Will Romeo adapt to the barrage of quick passes his defense will see from Luck or will he keep his corners playing off and hope his dogs get to Luck.

Texans just won what is arguably the best division in football and it's New Year's eve (stay safe everyone not named TY Hilton, may he break a leg)

Be happy we get at least one more game. It's going to be a very long off season. Future is bright for Texans fans. If you can't enjoy it then shame on you. After all the misery of the past as a Houston football fan I will enjoy as much entertainment as possible as long as possible

I don’t feel disappointed. My fandom has changed where I don’t feel emotions regarding this team even when they win.

I would say that I feel more like OB is holding this team back from being as good as they can be, but I think if things bounce right and the talent shows up anything is possible.
OB worries me more. I don’t think he’s going to magically call better offensive plays. Hope I’m wrong though.

I started to quote / respond to the OP's post but bleh …

These two posts sum up the feeling of foreboding some of us have … Its OB. We have absolutely NO faith in his ability to call plays or manage the clock in critical situations. Or to not use Watson like a damn halfback … ugh.

We need a real OC … the less OB does , the better. Just show up for the press conference , leave everything else to the rest of the staff..

He can choose to either die slow or die quickly. Indy’s receivers outmatch our secondary. Put that together with a healthy Luck and that good OL they have, it’ll be all over by halftime.

But hey, scratch all that. It’ll be all because of OB’s playcalling.

Keep the obsession alive.

Do any of you playcalling know-it-alls ever think to consider that OB’s playcalling just might have to take under consideration the weak OL, including a turnstile left tackle, along with multiple injuries to the receiver corps and the running backs? Not s thing to do with the personnel he has on the field at the time?

Naaa.... much easier to stay inside that vacuum chamber where you don’t have to think about those superfluous little details.

So you think the long developing pass plays and multiple play action fakes in one play is designed to help the QB deal with his bad online? Interesting.

Nailed it. I've said this before and I bet a lot of us have. Its quite the conundrum for them isn't it? It actually works in their favor because it's the gift of bitching that keeps on giving.

Now, I think there is definitely a difference in who them is. Rico and Thunder are good examples. They routinely give credit and express "happiness" at us winning but can be justifiably critical when its warranted like a lot of us. There are just people out there that will never be happy in life in general.

People act like we already lost the game. The fans that go “we are going to lose but I hope I am wrong“ need to nut up. Seriously people. What’s the point?

The colts aren’t that good. We have a better chance than what y’all are making it out to be.

And **** Andrew Luck. That guy didn’t come back from a broken leg and two back surgeries.

This game is for comeback player of the year.

Let’s root for our team to win this for JJ Watt.

Also no faith in OB fixing the ol. We've been talking about the ol needing to be fixed for years now

My guess is All that has to be done just to buy time for the offense to be able to challenge deep in different ways from time to time other than those simple timing 9 routes out on the sidelines...And challenging deep from time to time is something u have to do in this league to be effective as an offense. Having DW4 just drop back regularly with no fakes doesn’t freeze the defense and in particular those edge rushers from taking advantage of a terrible o-line long enough for types of deep route combos to develop. Those fakes becomes even more crucial when your receiving core is what ours is right now.

But you guys know it all..we should just be able to drop back and sling it all over the place like Big Ben does with AB, Shuster and all his weapons....or Mahomes and all his guys..or Goff and all his weapons.

It’s easy!

Just like firing McHale was gonna get the Rockets over the proverbial hump with the Warriors too....& then it was getting that 2nd superstar to compliment harden....then it was getting that 3rd superstar to compliment Harden and Paul.....4 years later.......

Fans tend to think 1 dimensionally..

NOBODY said no fakes. Stop arguing against imaginary dumb people. The beotch was about the stupidity of multiple fakes in one play. That is next level stupid coaching. On one sack there wasn't even any movement to the fakes. It was just stand in place pivoting while the edges collapsed.

Fakes can be meant to slow a rush, or set up another play later. So even if a play does not work, it may have a longer term impact. The issue with the fakes is not the play call to me, it is that we have lost our running game so it was not respected and then fakes are a waste of time as they know they are fakes. Anyway, I think it is good DW4 seemed to escape the game healthy and more on tape for Indy to think about. I do wonder if the kid trusts others at times, seemed like some of the RPO had some runs set up for the running backs but he pulled it. He likes to be the guy to make the play, and hell, he makes a lot so I see why. It is the time of season to just play though and let the chips fall, so unleash the kid, unlease Keke, and pray Hopkins foot/ankle can go again in a short week. I know Luck is no Bortles, but let's hope our back end plays again like they did this week, that was good defense, their 3 was a gift

Rico and TK are great examples ( though at times TK just wants to stir the pot to stimulate conversation) and I think there are plenty out there like Mr Tex, you and I that see the same flaws the more vocal critics do but choose not to dwell on the negatives. Don't matter what people here say as it will affect nothing, but some love to ***** for b!tchiness sake and to be able to say 'I told ya so' as if they were the only ones to see obvious flaws. It's an instant gratification world now. People choose to not think about the fact that it took the vaunted Pittsburgh Steelers 14 seasons to make the playoffs for the first time, or 41 (FORTY ONE) years to win their first CG.
I'm happy we have pro football back in Houston and that McNair encourages tailgating, unlike Fud

Well the steelers started winning because they finally hired a great coach (Chuck Noll). They weren't sitting around waiting for their current coach to figure it out.

But it took them 36 years to find that great coach in a league much smaller than what we have now. No, they didn't sit around, they changed every year or two... how can you know what you got in 8 or 11 games? How can anyone establish anything in 8 weeks?

Chuck Noll - just not a great argument - I'm not even REMOTELY saying OB is as good of a coach as Noll - you can't even really compare the two, but since you did....

Nolls first 5 seasons - 3 losing seasons 2 winning seasons

OB's first 5 seasons - 4 winning seasons 1 losing season

What if they would have fired him after his first 3 seasons when he was 12 W's and 30 L's?

Chuck Nolls record was:
1-13
5-9
6-8
11-3 (made conference championship)
10-4 (lost in division round)
10-3-1 (Super Bowl Champs)
12-2 (Super Bowl Champs)

So he started with a worse team and was a super bowl contender by his 4th year. He also built teams that were good on both sides of the ball, it wasn't just the defense carrying the offense.
