Houston Texans 2018 Playoff Thread

When we played the Redskins they were a playoff team... and they may still have been if Smith hadn't gotten hurt during our game against them, what QB are they playing now, a season ticket holder from Section 300?

That’s why I said they were tough. But at week 11 teams can go either way.

Hell, we could lose Sunday be playing the winner of Indy and Tennessee.

(And the Redskins were only two games ahead of the Cowboys and Eagles. They hadn’t played the Eagles yet and just beat the Cowboys.)

Looking back now we can gauge who the playoff teams are, who were tough teams, and laugh at the Colts and Titans because they can eat a turd.

I was playing with the ESPN playoff machine and there's a chance the Titans could get the #2 seed. lol

Steelers don't look like they are going to make it unless the Ravens lose.

So, chances are the Texans host the colts in WC game.

Does the TV networks bury this game on Saturday at 3? Or does a Watson/Luck matchup warrant a prime time Saturday evening game?

been wondering the same. ill make the game noon on sunday at home only. if not I'll find a buyer. we are usually that 3 o clock game saturday

If the Texans stay at the 3 seed it's going to be the winner of the Titans/Colts game in the 1st round. Only way we stay at 3 and play somebody else would be if the Titans and Colts tie and Steelers and Ravens both win. If that happens we get the Steelers.

And I'd pretty much bet the house we get the early game no matter who we play. If it's Luck v Watson it could be Sunday instead of Saturday, but Chicago or LA and Dallas are hosting that weekend. They'll get the late games.

Going back the last 3 years, the AFC games are early and NFC are late. Seems a bummer but that was the pattern showing on NFL.com

My biggest concern? Any DC worth his pay will double Hopkins all game every play, and force someone else to beat them. Who could that be? Watson can't throw the ball to himself. Will Miller be ready? Will one of the young TEs be unleashed?

Its shaping up to be a trivia type post season where we will remember obscure guys 10 years from now for what they did or didn't do.

Remember Jacoby Jones? That rotten SO..... Nevermind. Happy thoughts. Positive vibes.

I hear what you're saying in theory, but really in the AJ/Hopkins years how many times were they shut down? AJ spent his entire career until Hopkins with no 2nd WR threat.

So what did we do? OD became a threat. Our coach is going to have to take rookie TEs & a WR and make them the threat.

I have 100% confidence in their proper usage.

I'm not as confident in TE integration if it's only been used as an afterthought so far. So either OBrien is playing 5D chess and was saving some of these special sets of plays and formations for the playoffs or we will get the usual.

I have faith Watson will improvise and hopefully be enough on his own in throwing guys open. It's concerning when most of the skill guys are beat up. It would be a godsend for this team to secure a bye.

I really need to remember to put [/sarcasm]

Kubiak made OD & Kevin "friggin" Walter into a combined threat opposite AJ. Any good offense designer would, right? So OB just has to make our current guys a threat when they roll xoverage to Hopkins. Plus, Hopkins' hallmark move is damn near coverage independent: run up and cut to barely get your toes in while making a juggler sideline catch. That play is on QB accuracy & QB/WR timing. But like that Akins what 24 yd reception opposite field a couple weeks ago. Only game in OBs tenure with 100yds TE receiving. Like that.

LOL Kevin Walter was never a “threat” however he was the BEST DAMN blocking WR the league has ever SEEN! Hell, I believe he had a roster spot because of his blocking, Kubes pretty much said that.

Are conjunctions a problem ? I said Walter & OD were made into a 2nd threat (I even followed with COMBINED). Mind you 899 yds by himself in a season is laughing at your blocking WR comment. Do a brief look at the two opposite AJ. OD was on pace for league records when he got injured. Oh, and he has a ring having been schemed open at critical moments.

One coach teaches & creates threats. One hopes to be given them.

Or at least the kitty... But yeah you're right, but then the "grrr grr Bill has to keep the TE in to max protect on every pass play cuz the Oline is bad" people come out to play - so he does it with the worst blocking TE he has in Griffen. Even more strange because Bill was in NE when Hernandez and Gronk were terrorizing the league with 2 TE sets. Deshaun has been Hopkins dependent to a fault at times and I haven't seen enough WR scheme variants to give me warm fuzzies.

Ezplain this one to me. Akins & Thomas come in and make receptions (when allowed to eun routes) in the 1st half, maybe 3 qtrs, then it's Griffin in crunch time. WTF? In my book both are as good or better receivers than Griffin.

I've seen far less of them than I have Griffin but it still doesn't prevent me from saying "Easily".

Griffin has never impressed me and I've never seen what the coaches see in him. Best year and he's got 50 grabs but still under 500 yards and just a pair of TD's. Both the new guys seem to be able to match his typical output with ease and have far more upside than Griffin has at this point. I'm not sure what exactly they expect him to do now. Mentor in how to be the definition of JAG?

I don't think Griffin is bad. He's a concussion waiting to happen. The new ones seem more to way more athletic. My point really was OB seems to play the rooks early, and they perform, and then throws Griffin out in crunch time.

In other words I'm baffled by how OB decides who plays.

Rick drafted Griffin to be the crunch time TE.

I think his point was the Redskins we played started Alex Smith. If Alex Smith didn't get hurt, they will probably still have a 2 game lead on the Cowboys.

Now, it's not a fact. But they were a much better team with their starting QB.

Really, there was a label for that?

I was a Griffin fan before the season but the rooks have shined given the chance and have more stretch. Griffin has good grit. I'm not nocking Griffin. You're always going to get 4-5 yds after the catxh even if the DB is sitting on his head. And then he goes to concussion protocol.

You're not nocking Griffin. You're knocking him. The only arrow in Griffin's quiver is aimed at the blue tent.

It's looking very likely that the Texans will face Baltimore in the WC round. I think the Texans actually match up well with the Ravens defensively. The Ravens run the ball and the Texans stop the run. Stack the box and dare Jackson to throw the ball. I definitely don't want to see the Chargers, Chiefs or Colts in the WC round. Those teams will massacre the Texans. They'll have to move the Alamo to Kirby Dr.

If Baltimore loses, which I think they will and Pittsburgh wins who will the Texans face if they finish with the 3rd seed?

thats a good question I think we have earned a Sunday slot IMO

Yeah, ain't nobody wanna see our shitty ass, boring ass team except us. 1:30pm PT Saturday start---guaranteed.

Likely scenarios: if we beat Jags, it's home against Colts/Titans, followed by a road trip to NE. Lose and it's away to Baltimore followed by a road trip to KC.

I might actually prefer a road trip to Baltimore to a game against the Colts. BOB will never sanction putting enough points on the board to counter the late game Andrew Luck charge which inevitably happens. Colts will win it with the last possession as usual. Baltimore know less about us and it's a game we have a decent chance in.

I definitely prefer us at home to the Titans though, if they pull off a win against Indy, the victory against the Jags is a must.

I'm not sure I can handle another **** performance against the Patriots.

Hopefully we get a bye and someone else kills them dead before it's even an issue.

Unless Crennel and OB figure out that TY Hilton plays for the Colts, we're doomed in the first round. Way too many injuries to our secondary. Plus even less of a running game now with Miller injured. Add to this an absolute refusal to throw on first down, to play 2 TE sets with the Jordans, and you have a pretty easy path to victory for the Clots.

Except they haven't even clinched a playoff berth yet

Not really how that works "They were more than a handful for us" doesn't make them not a weak team - they have lost 10 games in the NFL this year - they ARE a weak team.
Its a very strong league this year was my point.
The only "weak" teams I see are the Cards, Bucs, Bengals, Jets, Bills, 49ers and the Raiders.
But that just another subjective opinion. ;)

I think it depends on the NFC; our game is likely more attractive than the NFC game if it turns out to be Vikings @ Bears; but if its Eagles @ Bears, we're likely in Saturday afternoon.

Ehh, You guys act like the Colts beat us by 30 the last time we played them...3 pt loss. Time before that 4 pt loss. Zero fear of them if we match up in the playoffs.

There were a few plays in that 2nd game I know DW4 would like to have back. I also Have to believe Clowney would like to redeem himself for how that 2nd game ended.

Yes they know us but we know them too. They’ve also been blanked by the jags recently so they’re not unstoppable.

I'm really worried about Luck/TY/Ebron vs a depleted Texans secondary.

How bad is KJax hurt?

That could have something to do with the Bears having a larger national fan base than the Texans do since they were an original NFL franchise that would make sense. If you could get over your hate of all things BOB maybe you could see this.

BTW, if you think that last weeks game was boring then you must not like watching football.
