Game 15...Keep It Rollin...Philadelphia Eagles!

This game really scares me. The last two games, defenses have figured out how to shutdown our running game. That has been a big part of our winning formula this year. I am hoping OB has enough tape on what the defenses have been doing and has come up with some adjustments that will resuscitate our running game. If we can run it, we can win this game. If we can't and we can't sustain drives and control the clock, we are in for a world of hurt.

Yeah this games scares the crap outta me... I envision Cox and Sproles going off big time

With the Eagles leading the league in pressures and their offense getting back on track, I don't feel good about this game.

We are playing for the 2 seed but maybe the team is fine dropping to the 3 seed with going 1-1 and getting ready for the playoffs while the Eagles season is over if they lose.

Eagles 24
Texans 16

A late TD and failed 2 pt conversion to make it a 1 score game.

To win this game, O'Brien needs to be aggressive. Start out by getting the ball out of Watson's hand quickly with short passes in the flats and the middle of the field with short, quick passes in the 5 to 10 yard range to take advantage of the lack of experience in the Eagles secondary and allow the backs, tight ends and slot receivers to make plays for positive yards. That will draw the defense to the short middle and open up the outside running lanes and give Hopkins and D Thomas more space on the outside passing routes. The Texans do not need to try and run between the tackles to start the game. That will not be successful against the Eagles front 7 and it will allow that Eagles defense to settle into stopping the run game while going after Watson. Loosen up that defensive line and force them to spread out. With end of rounds and going after the short middle field area, Watson and the Texans offense can open up the big play and the running game between the tackles in the second half. The Texans need to come into this game with a game plan the Eagles defense won't expect. Go to the short passing game and hit 7 to 15 yards per play and the Texans could pull it off.
On defense, get good coverage on Ertz with a linebacker on him and a safety over him and put a safety over Jeffery to help the corner in coverage and then stop Tate from effectively running the ball and the defense could effectively go after Foles and make him uncomfortable. The main point will be to stop the Eagles run game on the way to harassing Foles and keep tight coverage and allow the pass rush enough time to get to him.
The Texans will have to play with extreme urgency on every play on both sides
of the ball to get this win.
They can do it.

I hope no one is under any illusions the Texans are going to do much once they get to the playoffs.

I'm not going to shake my pom-poms and rah rah just yet, but as true to NFL-life as the Texans went from 0-3 to 9-3, it's also true in the NFL that a team can get unexpectedly hot in the playoffs and run the table.

In other words, we create our own illusions, while the NFL plays itself out with or without us.

Still, it's going to be a hard row to hoe against these Eagles.

I would not mind seeing a play fake and hit a WR deep on the first play.

Remember, Jags have no offense at all, so DW4 would get us a field goal with his ninja tricks.

Seriously, Philly is a one point favorite, mainly due to their showing against the Rams. I believe they are hungry, but theu have fought very hard the last two weeks just to get to the 7-7 in a long OT, and then physical Rams game. I think some of their stars are running on fumes so we need to try and take this game, let Nuk rest the bye week and maybe from halftime of Jags. It would be nice to see the defense and running game take this one and control the entire game, but I do think their secondary is where we need to attack. My prediction is we pass to get the lead and go full turtle after that making it a sphincter clench all the way
I cannot disagree with a single point.
Bennett and Cox are both nursing niggles as well so that might slow their psss rush a tad.
OB seems to major on those sphincter clenchers - I hate that.

IF everyone took a shot everytime OBrien calls an inside dive how long before we're all piss drunk?

The Texans might beat the Eagles, but it smells like a loss to me. We will beat the Jags, win the division, and possibly win a game in the wildcard weekend. After that, I hope no one is under any illusions the Texans are going to do much once they get to the playoffs.

duuude, weed is supposed to turn you into a nice, optimistic guy!

Definitely gonna need a decent short passing game to stop them rushing so much.
Unfortunately we haven't seen much evidence of one so far - especially with Coutee possibly still out of the mix.
I bet OB wishes he still had Ellington about now.

Ellington and Keke together have one working leg. I think Carter looks more durable so happy to have him backing up the Loch Ness monster (keke)

Carter has a chance to be the X factor in this offense if he can do anything like he did with that 50 yard catch. His quickness is exciting.

Also, Ertz is significantly worse with Foles under center and Jeffrey plays significantly better -- we should be all over Jeffrey and his jump ball ability.

I don't think it is Ertz playing significantly worse, I think it is Foles distributing the ball better than Wentz who tends to lock onto Ertz.

Yeah, that's what I meant. Jeffrey + Foles have some weird chemistry that Wentz + Jeffrey don't, but that Wentz + Ertz definitely due. He leads the league in targets for a TE when Wentz is in there, and drops to about half (i'm trying to find where i read this stat, forgive me it's off a bit) when Foles is under center

That's just it. O'Brien hasn't called short passes. Either that or Watson just wants to hit the big play and overlooks the underneath routes. If Watson is overlooking the underneath stuff, then he has to be coached to use it. If it's O'Brien not calling short passes then that's a part of the play book he needs to open up. Watson needs to start looking for the tight ends, the slot receiver and the backs out of the backfield and get the ball to them to allow them to make plays.
5 to 10 yard passes that could net 7 or more yards per play. Get the ball out quick to out play the pass rush of the Eagles.
Either way, that's a part of the game the Texans need to get going. It will be especially important when playing against a good defense, but especially this game where the secondary is banged up and they are playing two rookies against the Texans passing game. Go after that inexperience and exploit the short middle. That will open up the running game by getting the linebackers off the line to try and cover, and it will open up outside routes for Hopkins and D Thomas to make big plays by drawing the safeties into the box to try and cover the short passing game.

Why would they be fine with dropping to the Three Seed? That Bye week means everything after a long season.

This game will be a real test and will tell us a lot about this team. If they got what it takes to win in the post season, they need to beat the Eagles. It is time to show us something; it is time to show they belong in the playoffs.

Just saw on Total Access that Doug Pederson has been talking with Frank Reich on how to beat us! Lol. We're in their heads boys! That's a sign that you are legit.

Bill doesn't need to make any calls for help, just beat their asses inward with 6 yard pass after 6 yard pass. You'll fold them up by the half. Get cute and try to pound with them and you'll play into their hand.

Lucky for us the Colts game was a cacophony of mistakes. Id want to believe this team is locked in and are getting written off and they want to make a statement.

This is getting good!

I hope you are right but I would like to see some fully fit receivers out there.
Personally, I think we are going to see the TE's getting plenty of passes working the middle for those short yardage plays that you need to pick up first downs and get some momentum going.

First series, up-tempo no-huddle offense featuring quick hit routes for 5+ yards b/c everyone who has ever watched football, including the Eagles DC, would prepare for an OB run at all cost offense opening the game. They'd have to burn an early TO just to change their personnel. That would at least indicate to the Eagles DC that OB isn't following the cement script on offense.

One of the trademarks of the early Oilers was on the first play, the long pass. They hit on that quite a few times. That would certainly put the Defense on their heels. Yea, that is what I want, first play, "The Bomb".

I remember a game many years ago—I think it was the Redskins playing on Monday Night Football back in the days of Howard Cosell. The Redskins had the ball coming out of halftime. It was a close game. Joe Theismann dropped back on the first down of the first possession and sent the ball deep (to Art Monk I think). TD! Blew open the game and the other team never recovered.

No matter what play is called, with the Eagles D, Watson needs to be prepared to release the ball quickly into the hands of a receiver or into the stands. We can afford to lose an occasional down, not 10 yd chunks on sacks. For those who look at PFF's completion % under pressure, these do not account for when he does not release the ball and gets sacked. And the "lower" percentage of sacks during blitzes becomes much less impressive you look at the number of sacks taken without blitz.

Everyone needs to leave their deficiencies behind and bring their A game to this game and through every playoff game.......everyone........that includes O'Brien..........and that includes Watson.

Isn't Buddy Howell a running back? Is he so bad that he can't get any touches in a game at all? I know he's got value on ST, but with no Miller, Foremen an unknown coming off injury, and Blue being Blue, is it about time to see if he's got anything?

#Texans offensive line has to be better in the zone game tomorrow. Kelemete, Martin and Fulton struggled last week. Literally zero room for the backs last week. That is where it starts this week.

Most previous games, teams' Ds played to what has been regularly been publicized as the weakest points and mostly challenged our outside............leaving us thinking that we have a relatively decent interior line. Last week, the Jets actually were willing to diverge and concentrate elsewhere.............and divulge the interior line, when firmly confronted, as just as weak if not weaker than our OTs.

Not much rushing this week it appears. It'll be Watson throwing a lot. If they start blitzing, just start the screens. I would rather see Watson throwing than Blue rushing anyway.

Blue isn’t even a good runner honestly. But BoB is gonna make him to be a great runner tomorrow!

Blue was an effective check down for Watson against Dallas. A talent I didn't know he had.

It would be nice to see something like that. An under utilized ability that throws the defense off, used every now & again to keep them honest.

Foreman and Carter will have to be ready for this one with Miller and Coutee out. They need to fill the void with great play and help Watson out. Time to finally see D'onta in action.

Blue is an under rated RB..........he is by far our best blocker...........he has been an effective "safety" valve for Watson. His numbers have been very much skewed downward as he is most often brought into plays not expected to knock out large chunks, but specifically to knock large chunks off the clock. He's typically brought in cold without a chance to get into any rhythm.....something most any RB needs to be effective. His ST play has always been reliable, and he has been surprisingly durable throughout his career. I'm going to stick my neck out a bit and say that Blue will carry a significant load and, as the game goes on, is liable to surprise a lot of people against the Eagles (11th in ave rushing yds given up per game in the NFL)

I know I am in the minority here, but I actually like Blue. Historically, he has had his best games late in the season. In that playoff game against KC that Hoyer threw away (literally), Blue was steam rolling and starting to take over the game before Hoyer forgot which team he was on and started throwing completions to the other team.

Maybe Howell was able to get some carries in practice since Miller was limited.

I hope Foreman comes back strong. We need him on offense.

Check down part was nice. But the rushing part was extremely bad. He had like what 20 attempts and only 40 yards? I really don’t want to sit here and watch BoB try to force the run game into something it isn’t.

Foreman was a waste of a draft pick. He was injured when we drafted him, he got injured again last season, and is still out. He'll never amount to anything, and if he does come back, it won't take very long before he's injured and out again.

I get what you're doing. Pretty cool.

Blue is an under rated RB

3.3 YPC is under rated?
Less than 10 carries a game Blue is averaging 3.9 YPC.
10 or more carries a game, that drops to 2.9 YPC.

I agree that I'd like to see him more involved in the pass game, but you could say that about Miller too. The Texans just aren't using the RBs that way.

Not looking forward to Blue getting the bulk of the workload.

Shh on talk about Carter, Eagles don't know about him or the long catch and run. Game will depend more on RAC calls than O'Brien's. Mercilus needs big game. Fairburn kicks three FGs longer than 50. Foreman has tremendous game and even catches a pass of significance! Texans win then have difficult time with Jags but Watt screams on sideline but faints. Defense goes crazy to win out. Ta da
