Hall Of Fame Texans Fan!
On Sunday, December 23rd at 12 noon, the Texans will travel to Philadelphia to take on the Eagles at Lincoln Financial Field. The game will be aired on TV on CBS 11 and on radio on AM SportsRadio 610.

So far, the Texans are 2-1 against the NFC East in wins against the Cowboys and Redskins and a loss to the Giants. This is the final game against the NFC East. Watson and the offense need to be better at running the ball and protecting Watson and the defense needs to really tighten down the loose defensive backfield to go into Philadelphia and get a win.

If there's one thing going in the Texans direction, it's that Nick Foles will be starting since Wentz is out with a fractured vertebra in his back. Even still, Foles will have Alshon Jeffery and Zach Ertz to throw the ball to and Golden Tate and Josh Adams to run the rock. This will be hard to stop. The Texans defense will have to stop the Eagles run on the way to the quarterback on every single play in this one. Watt, Clowney, Mercilus and the rest of the Texans front 7 will have to get after Foles and the running game with urgency every single snap. If the Texans defensive line starts getting to Foles regularly, he becomes subject to reverting to his old self and throwing picks and giving up fumbles. The back end has to keep tight coverage just long enough to allow the front 7 to disrupt Foles. This will be critical in getting off the field and getting the ball into Watson's hands.
On offense, the Texans will need to run much better then they have the last 2 weeks. This might be a good game to get D'Onta Foreman in and get him some reps to get ready for the post season. Especially since Miller was hobbled against the Jets. If Coutee is still unavailable (as he probably should be to allow more time to heal up and get ready for the post season), then DeAndre Carter really needs to step up and make himself more available to Watson in the passing game. The tight-ends will also need to get more heavily involved in the passing game and take advantage of the middle of the field. Especially in 3rd down situations. The backs will also need to be ready to catch quick passes as an outlet out of the backfield. Watson will need those outlets against the Eagles defense with Bennett and Cox gunning for him every play. Watson needs to learn to get rid of the ball quickly and O'Brien needs to learn to call quick pass routes to get the ball underneath and keep the chains moving. Hopkins and D Thomas will get things done. Everyone else needs to step up.
This is the time to play with urgency and keep things rolling into the playoffs to earn the Division crown and a possible 2nd seed.
This will be a very tight game.

Wasn't Foles the winning QB in the SB last year?
Yes he was, but this year, he has looked more like the old Foles. They just don't seem to be what they were last year. Let's hope the Texans go into that game with extreme urgency and take it seriously. If Watson has the ball last with the chance to win the game, I think we've seen him do it enough that we can actually have faith that he can get it done. We can only watch and see.

This Eagles team will be a real challenge. They lose nothing with Foles at the helm.
Nuk better be 100% because we will need him. I agree about Carter - he has a bit of spark and could be the Texans unexpected boost for the rest of the season.
I also think it is high time Buddy Howell got a few snaps - Texans need to find something to lift their O and he has been doing well on ST.
He and Carter could be the tonic they need.
Blue was ineffective against Jets and the Eagles front 7 are even better. I hope Miller can be back 100% or this Texans O is going to look very anemic.

Neither the Philly or Jacksonville game will be easy pickings. They'll have to play better than they did against the Jets.
Yes they will. The Texans will have to bring their "A" game for both. The Texans could easily lose either game, but, they could also win one or both if they focus and every player sticks to his assignment and does his job. We'll see in the next two weeks.

I think it’s time to get Foreman on the field. He’s been activated. Put him in. He can either help or he can’t. Has anyone here ever seen Buddy Howell take a handoff? Me neither.
Been thinking about that.
Foreman is supposed to be running ok, but he hasn't played in a while.
It may take him a few games to get back into football shape and gain some confidence in that Achilles.
If he was truly good to go, I can't see coach holding him back.

Yeah, I missed the Browns game and gave tickets away late to go to my niece's sons birthday party. My sister passed so I try to be there, but man some people need to check when the Texans and Aggies are playing in these parts before they schedule this family stuff

Yes he was, but this year, he has looked more like the old Foles. Besides, the Eagles won that Super Bowl in spite of Foles because of the Eagles defense. I think the Texans win this game and the Eagles are not as good as last year for a variety of reasons but you can't say the Eagles won the Super Bowl in spite of the guy who was Super Bowl MVP for a reason.... When a guy throws for 373 yards and 3 tds plus catches a TD as well he has something to do with winning the game. And the way our secondary has looked lately there is plenty of reason to respect the last Super Bowl MVP winning QB.

Do you even watch the games? The bolded is just pure ignorance. Foles was 28 of 42 373 yards 3 TDs 1 INT and a QB rating of 106.1 in the SB and was the MVP. Have you not seen what two rookies just did to the Texans secondary? Keep on looking through your rose colored glasses, but please at least wipe the BS off of them.

I would apologize, but this is every single week with you. Go read what you posted about Luck and the Colts last week. It's obvious that you either don't actually watch the games or that you have no idea what you're watching. Feel free to put me on your ignore list.

Unfortunately, I see Foles and Alshon Jeffries doing their best Luck and Hilton imitations, with a similar result. Back to back road games are tough on a team. The only real upside I see is the extra day to help with some of the nicks and bruises.

As long as the results are the same, I can deal with a bit more of the whining here

Well sir. I apologize for the outburst. No I will not block you. I value your posts like everyone else here. I do agree with the fact that the secondary has been bad at very inopportune times. Hilton is the Texans kryptonite. Jefferies is even more dangerous than him. As is Ertz and Tate. Those guys are good and very dangerous. They should worry everyone. It's just that Foles hasn't played close to what he was last year. He played way over his head in the last quarter of last year after Wentz went out and he was good enough through the playoffs and in the Super Bowl to beat the Patriots. It just seems like that team, which is still pretty much the same team that played in the Super Bowl, isn't playing at all as well as they did last year. Huge drop off. The Texans could very easily lose this game, but if everyone does their job and limits the mistakes, this Texans team could win. It's going to be a tough game and the Texans absolutely must bring their best game. Again. Sorry about the outburst brother.

Darnold and his weapons of unknowns just had their best game of the season against this defense. Can I say that I'm slightly concerned as to what Foles, Jeffries, Tate and Ertz might be able to do at home?

Robby Anderson is a B level TY Hilton. It’s known we have issues with that type of receiver.

I’m most concerned about Tate/Ertz on the Eagles. It will be a good test for the good guys now that they have not yet clinched the division. They should be ready to roll after a tough win where there was no reason for them to get complacent.

However the Eagles have even more issues at CB than the Texans. And I feel like the Texans D will do a better job than the Eagles D. Watt and the boys are the X factor that have led this team to 10-4 despite its warts.

This game just became a must win as the Steelers beat the Patriots. That gives our Texans sole possession of the second seed. In order to hold on to it, the Texans must win this game and the last one against the Jaguars. Winning this game will also sew up the AFC South for the Texans.

Go Take It!

Looks like Philly is a real football team.

meh.....11-5 gets us the division anyways. We can always beat the jaggies.

I like the fact that the Eagles beat the Rams in LA tonight. We're going to get tested by a team playing playoff caliber football and fighting for playoff hopes (in a playoff atmosphere in Philly) -- if we win, we prove to ourselves we belong in the legit team conversation. If we lose, we're right back where many of us thought we were -- playing like a team that most likely won't be able to win these types of games. It's a good time for a test where the consequences of failing the test aren't season ending.

Oh we will! I have Faith, BoB will help take this team to beyond a level we haven't seen before.
In order to do this, Watson is going to have to be much quicker at getting rid of the ball. Quick, short passes to the running backs, tight-ends and receivers. Quick slants, quick curls and quick outs underneath. Carter will have to be more involved and get open fast. Watson will have to start using roll outs and boot legs to stay away from the rush to extend longer plays. They're going to have to use some trickery and the running game is going to have to step up considerably.
Jefferies, Tate and Foles will have to be contained.
These Texans will have to step up at every position.
Easier said then done.
They had better be ready.

I have felt all along that the Texans would lose this game, and they seem to be approaching collapse mode with a loss to the Colts followed by getting kicked around by the Jets in everything but the score. Buzzards 40, Toros 21.

You're right, 10-6. This team is fool's gold, especially with the Miller injury. Unless we fully change our passing philosophy and play quick tight end and receiver schemes, this team will fall on its face in the playoffs.

I would agree

Eagles 27 Texans 19

This game will come down to the schemes used by both OB and Crennel....it'll be that simple.

If OB rolls with his current offensive scheme, it's going to get ugly in a hurry. Now would be a great time to pull the covers off the same offense OB used last season when Watson took over. The Texans will not be able to use the run to set up the pass b/c that would essentially be giving up a play and burying the team with 2nd and longs. I'd have no issue if OB wanted to pass to setup the run.....maybe even 35+ passes to do so.

Crennel will need to bite the bullet and have his Corners get on top of the receivers. These 10 yard buffers are giving up quick strikes and the Eagles have the talent to exploit this strategy. Also, it kills me when the defense lines up with no one in between the OG's, the DL is lined up on the OG's outside shoulder and Watt and Clowney or Merciless are outside the OT or TE. Foles is far to athletic to not take advantage of pulling the ball down and running for 10+ yards.

Do I want the Texans to win? Sure! It would be awesome to see them go 12-4. Does it make me want to go down and bet the house that they'll be playing in the Super Bowl? No, I'm a realist. The team that scares me the most if the AFC......San Diego Chargers. They gelled in every facet at the right time.

On a side note, the Texans are now projected in the #27 spot in RD1.

Working in the Texans favor is that they are one of the most consistent teams in the league this season in terms of effort and expectation.

Their “best” isn’t as good as several team’s “best” but their “worst” isn’t as bad as most. Their normal level of production is worth 10-4 in the record books so far while a team like the Eagles look like defending Super Bowl champs one week and a team picking in the top 10 in the upcoming draft the next.

Lets hope what we usually get out of the Texans is good enough to beat whatever version of Philly shows up next game.
