The Jets have a promising young quarterback in Sam Darnold, but he cant's do it by himself. He has no real threats in the passing or running game and their defense is nothing special at all.
This should be a romp for the Texans.
Especially since this team will have been awakened and pissed off.
Expect the Texans to go into New York and tear the Jets apart.

Texans 47
Jets 10

The Texans can beat the Jets, no problem. BUT can the Texans beat the Texans? They have to stop shooting themselves in the foot. Watson needs to learn to throw the ball away and not take a sack. Clowney needs to learn discipline on 3rd. OB needs to learn to lean on the TEs heavy with as thin as we are at WR.

The sky is not falling. The Patriots lost to the Dolphins. The Texans are still in the hunt for the 2nd seed. I kind of thought we might lose this game. It's not over.

Scratch Sammie Coates Jr., though.

If he can't get on the field before an 84-year old special teamer by the name of Joe Webb, Coates is no better than a dog biscuit.

I’d like to believe this game will be a rout, but my 16 years of watching this team tells me otherwise...20-17...not sure which team will win

47? I thought that was the over/under on how many points the Texans would score the rest of the season?

If this team doesn't come out and dominate against AFC fodder then they don't deserve to go to the playoffs.

Yes it will be cold. Yes the fans will be ugly. This is where good coaching separates. This is where star players need to lead. Must have game for confidence.

HOU 27

Glad to see you think the coaching will be good.

Glad to see you think the coaching will be good.

We shall see. Coaching can be good at times. Will it be Sunday? It better be against the Jets, I don't care if we win by 1 point. Just win. You may have written off their post season, but i believe this team will surprise. Everyone needs to be accountable in trying to get to the 2 seed.

Loss to the hapless Jets would not be a good look.

Well Jets aren't good against the run however, if I had to guess they will sell out on the run on first downs. I hope we mix things up, I don't mind running the ball on first down its sometimes the play selection that I don't agree with.
Also expect Deshaun to be MUCH better, 1 o'clock games arent really his thing but anything 4:30 and prime time games he brings his best.

I do think they will win Sunday and make the playoffs and maybe win 1 game. That's their talent level.

The best coaching in the world isn't going to make Davenport's feet move faster or Wright cover better.

That's obvious. Good coaches already know Davenport is the worst LT in football and have a contingency plan in place.

You talking about a new LT. BOB has been using contingency plans to cover for Davenport all season.

Because fixing the LT position can only be done this offseason either in FA/Draft. The LT position is what it is for this season.

BTW, the offense should've put up 35 on the Colts so that's promising.

So it sounded like Plan A this past offseason was to make Solder the highest paid tackle in the league. Since that didn't go through, Plan B was to go with Davenport. Both were horrible decisions by BOB/Gaine. Hopefully they'll do a better job at finding a LT next offseason. I'm not even going to bring up someone thought it was a good idea to give Rankins a shot at LT for a couple of games.

Problem is, you can only pick from what's available. Not having a first and second round draft pick handicapped us and there were not a great deal of good options available in FA. It is interesting that prior to the season the everyone was complaining we didn't sign Solder and we should have offered him more money. Now the talk seems to be, "I can't believe they were going to sign Solder for that much money."

47-10?
10 points for optimism, but I don't see our offense scoring that many points - too many missing pieces right now.
This could be a lot closer than people think especially if their is any icy precipitation about.
Put it this way - if the Texans can't put the Jets away, they don't deserve to be in the post season.

there was plenty of time to upgrade or at least build depth after the Texans struck out on Solder (go after him they did). there were some moves during the year for average linemen, and the Texans decided to sit still. Just like they decided to sit still on the QB carousel of the previous 3 years B.D. (Before Deshaun) somewhat of an arrogant "we'll coach them up" attitude and it didnt have a desired outcome to start the year to say the least.

Fast forward to now, and I could tell you that every starter on that line save Davenport is a serviceable NFL lineman. Davenport himself has flashed at times, but he's got the feet of a guard. Too late to keep crying about it now, what do you do? You must expect a failure on that side and plan accordingly. Checks and balances.

Hopefully Watson is perfect next game so he doesnt overshoot by 2-3 yards on 50 yard passing plays. Still all goes back to everyone on the team owning their part of the loss, and learning from it.

How many ridiculously good games has Watson had? How many bad?

I'm not so worried about winning the next games but what it will cost us to get those wins. Say we destroy the Jets 100-0 but Watson gets his season ended in the process, can we really call that a win? To me the games till the playoffs we should basically do just enough to secure the win and make sure they can't pull an 11th hour comeback but beyond that save the players for the playoffs. Hell, I wouldn't even be against letting Weedon get some game time in if we have a good enough led and let Watson rest that shoulder some more.

Texans must retain the 2 seed if they have any chance whatsoever to make some noise. If they dont get the bye they could very well be ousted in the divisional round .. on top of that if you look at PITT/NE home-away splits you'll notice Jeckyl and Hyde type teams who dont play nearly as well on the road as at home. Must get those teams away from their home fields. Cant let up, must win out and hope NE drops another.

Worrying about injuries before they happen is an exercise in futility. Try as you may to protect your QB and he'll go down on non contact stuff. Watson is a tough guy, nobody should doubt him by now .. he just needs to get smarter with his football decisions.

The only upgrade was Trent Brown, since Ricky left Gaine without a first or second round pick.

Marshall Newhouse, Corey Robinson, Shon Coleman .. just some names of OTs that were moved from one team to the next during the season to show that the market was there. Sure, Gaine in his wisdom could say that those players were not 'texan material' which is fine, but being proactive instead of reactive are what good GMs are all about.

Ricky traded for the best QB this team has ever known. I guess they should have foregone the trade, drafted an OL that year and really tried hard to protect Tom Savage that next year huh?

Even if they had HOA throughout the playoffs do you really think this team is a championship contender? I don't, so from the beginning my goal has been to keep Watson healthy this year and I don't even care about their record.

Fix the ol in the offseason and then good times are ahead. This season doesn't even matter to me at all. Of course I'm rooting for them to win though.

Those guys aren't as good as Davenport.

The second that was traded to get rri of Ricky's Os mistake could've been used on a great prospect like O'Neill. Who is starting at RT and looked good filling in for Reiff at LT.

So the only way we won't be one and done in the playoffs is if we get the bye? So winning by default is our only chance? If that's the case we have no business being in playoffs. Seriously the more I think on that way of thinking the worse it sounds. We are true contenders.......as long as the other teams are bad or get knocked out by lesser teams in a fluke. The bye would be nice but its suppose to be a reward for how well your team has done during the season, not a way for you to say look how deep a run we made.

Getting through the playoffs is tough for any team. You a playing through a gauntlet of the best teams in the conference. Any advantage you can secure is needed for success. Teams with a longer road and without home field historically don't make it through the gauntlet.

I'm not saying that the bye wouldn't be nice but if that's the only chance we have then we are not ready for the playoffs. Also history is kinder to teams without the bye than you might think. This is from 2017 but shows that teams playing in division round under the current system actually have a good track record.

The URL is misleading the full title is DOES it help.

What throws everyone's thinking off is how the Patriots have dominated at home field. Historically though teams going the long route do fairly well IF they are a true super bowl contender. Also I never said we shouldn't worry about winning the up coming games I said if we get where we have a lead we can hold then don't try to blow the other team out of the water and save players best you can.

in its essence you are right .. the TExans dont belong in the playoffs with a shoddy OL, WRs who cant stay healthy, a young QB and a defense who has a tendency to bend. Yet here they sit. Dont want to piss in your cereal, but the Texans are not better than .. Chiefs, Steelers, Patriots or Chargers. If you want to hide behind your steel blue blinders go ahead. I like the TExans chances with a first round bye .. allow some of the other teams to beat each other up and then welcome them to Houston with 80K cranked up fans. Watson is the mother of all X factors in championship games, Im downright giddy to see him play in a playoff game.

You're confusing me .. you say a bye is a reward, but not an example? I mean yeahh. If the 2 seed is in sight and you can get it, wouldnt you want to get it? Why flame out and play the rust vs rest argument? In football off days dont constitute better performance unless said player is dealing with injury.

Trent Brown is the guy that quickly comes to mind.

I haven’t been following, but how has Cameron Fleming looked? He has a high pff score.

We had a shot at drafting Orlando Brown as well.

TBH, I don’t get why we decided to not retain Chris Clark? We put a lot of pressure on Davenport to perform. Clark is nothing great, but I do think he’s an upgrade over Davenport right now.

Early reports are that its going to be rainy and cold on Saturday in New York. Might be a low scoring affair.

I hope so. I want to see a rainy game. :breakdance:

rainy is one thing, but rainy AND cold? Thats just miserable it would be better if it snowed, but temps will be in the low 40's for kickoff - slush type conditions.

What the hell are you rambling about "steel blue blinders" first of all if you had actually read the first post I made I said they should make sure they are going to win before switching players. I never said they shouldn't care about any of the upcoming games. You do, however, tend to overlook anything that doesn't fit the narrative you are going for.

Second, yes it is a damn reward and again I have no clue what you mean by an example. Do you mean an example of where it was a reward for playing well? Also you may not have noticed but we are dealing with injuries, anytime you see your key players with less than full participation in practice that means there is a reason. The reason may just be playing it safe but there is still a reason. Do I want them to get the bye, of course I do. Would I be pissed if they got it because the Pats or Chiefs lose, no I won't. I do, however, want it to be the case that when they play a team they have a real shot at winning on their own merits and not just because the other team had a bad day.

"if thats the case we dont have no business being in the playoffs" ... you are wrong sir, we do have business in the playoffs and if we want to maximize that opportunity you win out.
"Im not so worried about winning these next games .. but what it will cost us" .. again you must be implying injury and this board already has plenty of wizards that see the future.
"do just enough to secure a win" .. what the **** does that even mean dude? When have the Texans won a game in the first quarter? Christ man you're all over the board with your take.
"I wouldnt even be against giving Weedon some playing time" ... LOL ok.
Your 'bye is a reward' comment did enough to confuse both of us obviously. You EARN a bye, you're not 'rewarded' one.

rambling huh? So you want them to play, just enough not to get hurt, but enough to secure the win! OKAY!
