Game 11...The Tacks Act Deux...Tennessee Titans!

JamTex

Hall Of Fame Texans Fan!
On Monday, November 26th at 7:15 pm CST, the Texans will take on the Titans on Monday Night Football at NRG Stadium at home. The game will be aired nationally on TV on ESPN and on local radio SportsTalk 610 AM.

Mariota may be out with that same ole nagging elbow injury he has been dealing with all season and Gabbert may get the start....again....against the Texans. In the first meeting in week 2, Gabbert and the Titans defense got the best of the Texans by 3 lousy points. I don't think they'll do it again. Not in this game. Not in our house on Monday Night Football.

The Titans offense is anemic. Bad at running and passing. Mariota or Gabbert scare no one and have no real threats. Their running game is the best part of their offense and it's 15th in the league averaging only 111.7 yards per game. It's simple. Stop their running game and their offense is effectively shut down. The Texans vaunting defense should be able to man handle the weak offense of the Titans. Watt, Clowney, Mercilus, Mathieu, Reid and the boys should be able to T off on them.
The Titans defense on the other hand, is very formidable. The offensive line for our Texans is banged up. The young group that will likely start is left to right, Davenport, Rankin, Martin, Mancz and Lamm. All young guys drafted by the Texans and some of which are in the developmental stage. They need to come together quite quickly. Hopefully, they'll get help from Fulton and Kelemete since their injuries in the game against the Redskins are reported as not being serious or season ending. They need to come back from those injuries quickly. Until then, this very young line is going to have to find a way to hold up against a very good Tennessee defensive front 7.
Deshaun will have to scramble and get rid of the ball quickly. He can't hold on to the ball. That means the receivers will have to get into their routes and get open quicker. O'brien will need to put in some quick slants, quick out routes and quick screens to help Deshaun out. Deshaun will need to use his legs to help out the O-line.
The Texans have the talent to get it done, they just need to use it to give Deshaun the advantage.
On the bright side, Deshaun Watson has been amazing when the lights are on in national games and on the biggest stages. He really steps up big. He needs to keep that going in this one.
I think he's going to and put the Titans back on their heels in this game.
He and the Texans will take the Tacks in a dominating way and there will be nothing left but tacks on the bottoms of the Texans cleats.

Tacks 10

GO TEXANS!

If I were the Texans I'd be madder than SATAN at the Tacks. They made us look so bad the time before. This time we make cream soup out of their cods. Toros 45, Tacks 20.

Since 2010 Texans Monday Night record in 10 appearances is 3-7. A win seems overdue, despite 7 straight in other games leading up to next Monday. Stay hungry Texans!

Surely there must be some kicker on the horizon for next year, or will I have to buy new remotes?
I had no idea how our kicker rates, so I checked. He's Number One in FG made. He is 22 of 27 in FG. He is 5 of 8 from the 40's and 2 of 4 from over 50. He made all from inside 40. That is not too bad. -- If you want me to check on who's available, I think Toni Frisch is.

Our K is fine.
Lay off him people. Much bigger issues with this team
Nope he is fair game as is Davenport, Watson or anyone else. That last kick of his was a horrible attempt and he should be criticised for it. I'm not chucking him but he needs to get a butt chewing at the minimum.

I'm hoping Colvin and Cunningham are back and healthy. Also hope we have a better offensive game plan this next time up. Watson needs to be consistent and play to his skills if it is concern about his ACL or whatever. Nothing seemed to flow especially O. players knowing what to do and that is coaching. I would like to see both Miller and Blue used receiving more as both have been consistently good '17 and this season. I don't know what situation with new pickup Demaryius Thomas was credit with one target by ROTO and none by ESPN after three catches for 61 with no playbook knowledge. What excuse can there be for that? What's up with our two Jordans at TE? They have good game then get minimal targets next..why? Why also was Griffin on the field?

Do our backup QBs get bipolar watching Watson.."oh! he's gonna get hit! I'm gonna get to play...O my word how did he get away..sigh. Hey mom I'm back on my cell with you. What were you saying about dad?"

Did he get a good snap/Hold?

Creamed soup! What kind of yankee are you?
Like cream of mushroom soup. I assume it contains cream. If you refer to the use of the past participle, I get the point. The local grocery store has directory signs at the ends of the aisles that say things like "can vegetables". They mean canned vegetables, but it makes me want to shop elsewhere.

That's what I was wondering. When I watched the replay, it looked like a bad hold to me, but I never focused on how all of his other kicks were put down. This one seemed to be placed too far out, and leaned back toward the holder. Is that how they are generally held, or are they usually held more straight up?

Most important is to have the laces forward. If they're not, the ball will curve in the direction of those laces.

BOB had two weeks to self scout and come up with a creative game plan against the Skins.

If the game plan was my thanksgiving meal, I was hoping for turduckin and instead I got served spam out of a can.

BOB is just incapable of delivering the goods at this point. I was for bringing him back (sans extension or short extension) based on what he did in a half dozen games with Watson last year. Instead, he's turning Watson into Hoyer. What a freaking joke this guy is. And for the love of God, get an OC with more than one running play in his play book.

I read a post on Yahoo. A guy there actually thinks Davis is as good as D Hop. Lol

To be fair OB’s best work comes when he has to prepare the team on the fly in an emergency situation:

EX: Bringing Case Keenum from the deer stand, changing the offense to fit DW4 after spending the offseason and 1st half of game 1 running something more suited for Savage.

You give OB time and he’ll outsmart himself like opening day last two seasons. But if he has no time and needs to come up with something it usually turns out pretty good!

Houston Texans
Despite winning seven straight games, the Texans only have a +34 point differential on the year, 7th-best in the AFC. Deshaun Watson (2,597 passing yards and 18 TDs) has been just ok under center, even with DeAndre Hopkins (950 receiving yards and 8 TDs) further cementing himself as a top-five WR in the league.

Houston owes the bulk of its win streak to its stingy defense, which is outdoing the Titans’ unit in every area save scoring. It ranks in the top ten against both the pass (8th) and run (7th), while sitting 6th overall in points (20.5 PPG).

Led by J.J. Watt and his 10.0 sacks, Houston’s defense has pestered opposing QBs all year. It will look to do the same against Mariota and the Tennessee offense in Week 12. There’s a decent chance Watt adds to his league-leading sack total, too; the Titans have surrendered 33 sacks on the year (5th-worst), including a near-record-setting 11-sack performance against Baltimore in Week 6.

Tennessee Titans
The Titans, who desperately need a win to stay within striking distance of Houston in the AFC South race, bring the 6th-ranked defense to the Lone Star State this week. The strength of the Titans’ defense has been their secondary. Tennessee is allowing just 234.9 yards through the air per game, good for 9th in the NFL.

Those numbers really speak to the strong play of the corners and safeties, as the pass rush has only generated 23.0 sacks (T23rd) and is ranked 27th overall by Pro Football Focus. Jayon Brown leads the team with just 4.5 sacks.

That said, the secondary was lit up last time out, giving up 297 yards, 3 TD, and a 79% completion percentage to Andrew Luck and the Colts, who waxed the Titans 38-10. Luck didn’t even need most of the fourth quarter to accumulate those stats.

Even with that result on the books, however, Tennessee is still second in the league in scoring defense at 18.9 PPG.

Keeping opponents off the board has been necessary this year. The Titans’ offense is bottom-five in scoring at just 17.9 PPG, meaning they have a negative point differential on the year (-11).

They aren’t doing anything well, sitting 25th in passing DVOA and 18th in rushing DVOA. Now they also have to deal with a banged-up Marcus Mariota under center.

QBs with the worst sack% in the NFL in 2018:
1. Josh Allen
2. Marcus Mariota
3. Russell Wilson
4. Dak Prescott
5. Deshaun Watson

The Titans have given up multiple sacks in seven straight games.

Previous Meeting
Tennessee has won two straight in the series, including a 20-17 upset in Week 2 as 3.5-point home underdogs. However, the Texans have won the last six in a row in Houston dating back to 2012.

Since ol' Bud croaked a few years ago, my disgust with the Possums has dwindled. I'm just happy that wretched, fat slob never got to experience the joy of his team winning a Super Bowl.

I will forever hold Bud Adams responsible for the 25 year run that eventually wound up with me weaning the NFL out of my life. Losing the Oilers is still one of the most traumatic events I've had as a sports fan, and the fact I have chosen to not watch on Sundays for the most part over the last two years. I am going to attempt over the off-season to pick up the Texans and see if the old Houston blood can get pumping again.

I was glad the Oilers moved.

I was hoping for a better owner when Houston got a new franchise.

It appears the McNair's aren't alot different than Bud was.

Here's an interesting stat. The Tacks have won the last 2 meetings between the two teams, but, the Texans have won the last 6 meetings between the 2 teams at NRG Stadium since 2012. That trend will continue on Monday night.
Go Texans!

Erm, 7 wins straight is incapable?
You're hard to please.

Last year in week 4, the Texans faced the Tacks.
Watson engineered 5 scores on the first 5 drives.
The Texans went on to destroy the Tacks 57-14 in Watson's 3rd start of the 2017 season.
When the lights are the brightest, Deshaun shines the brightest so expect a similar outcome on Monday Night Football.

Go Texans!

I think everyone is happy about the 7 wins but but everyone is looking forward to the playoffs and what the eye test shows.
Whelp, I am probably one of the biggest Homers on this board, but do not hold too much hope past the Wildcard game unless we get some help from our injured players and the oline needs to keep on improving.
I think all of us are surprised at our current standing but not under any illusions for the playoffs unless the scenario I just painted comes to fruition.

I’m just hoping we pull out the offense they talked about all off season in the playoff. It looks like right now BoB just wants the offense to be a game managing offense. Run the ball and protect it and let the defense carry the load. Not too sure how far that takes you but too each it’s own. Also think people don’t like the fact that we got back to running the same basic ass offense when last year BoB showed he has some creativity inside that chin of his. But this year we are back to the basics.

I am not confident this team goes anywhere in the playoffs, but the grit and tenacity they have shown gives me a little hope they can. They seem to play with a determination and a resolve to win. I am curious to see how far that will take them this year. There are lots of complaints you can lodge about BOB's coaching, but he has never lost the locker room and he has instilled a mental toughness in this team. There are not a lot of coaches that can do that and I think it is a trait you either have or don't have—not so much one you can develop. That's why, even with all his warts, I want to see what he and Gaine can do with this team. You fix the o-line, this can be a very special team. If they can't do that in the next couple of years you clean house.

True, but we know Bill does know those plays as he has already demonstrated.
Says to me he is running the O to not only protect 4 but to win.
I'll run with that.

No way Blaine Gabbert can beat us twice in one year right? I mean that's gotta be like hitting the Powerball.

Defensive battle ... Texan win 17-14
Yea. We probably will come out first drive moving the ball and score a TD then we are going conservative mode and running the ball and running out the clock. Hope the defense comes up big.

I'd be ecstatic if Houston can get double digit sacks on a Monday night game. I'll become the biggest BO'b cheerleader y'all ever did see.

I understand RAC runs the D, but I'll jump on the O'Brien wagon regardless.

This is much better team than those losses. We will see even better defense than so far.

Don't think BOB has much choice in the type of Offense he's running right now. He's stuck with an O-line that can't protect Watson for more than a couple of seconds, if that, with a reduced RB and WR group and that's what's driving his conservative vanilla Offense that will mostly run and only allow minimum pass attempts from Watson. If the O-line, RB's, and WR's can get healthy and develop some better chemistry or continuity then maybe you will see that Offense that was talked about in the off season. JMO.
