4th Round pick, Tyler Ervin RB San Jose St.

Ha! I have more of an issue with that than I do 23, actually, LOL. Does the man know the history of #34 in Houston?

Yep! I actually had no problem with 23, because I was never a big time Foster fan. I mean hell, Mercilus took the 59 the year after Demeco left, and Demeco meant a hell of a lot more to me than Foster.

As far as #34, I have been waiting awhile for a RB to wear 34 for the Texans, Stacey Mack doesn't count, lol. He better do it justice dammit! His name is Tyler, maybe he could be the new "Tyler Rose"

Highlight videos are impressive. Decisive with a great burst. Eager to see an ob scheme actually materialize.

I'm getting drawn in, again, to the idea of a game plan offense... using the "more you can do" principles to probe, identify, & exploit our opponents weakneses.

You'd think I'd learn after two years of bleh.

They keep crying wolf and we keep running. It's fun to imagine - but as you suggest, wait and see.

The only defensible thing I can say is pretty much no offense is going to look good with bad quarterback play. Ob might have the most brilliant and innovative offense in the history of the game (did i just type that ) but it's going to look like dog turds with a guy like hoyer.

Which is why I find it hard to buy whatever BO'B is selling, because he deliberately went out and brought in Hoyer. At some point he actually thought, "let's get that guy the Browns let go."

No arguing that but we all knew fitz wasn't the guy long term. He took a chance on hoyer and mallet who arguably HAD more upside going into last season. Swing and a miss. Hope Os is it.

Bring in Hoyer because you think he can fit the system, then move on after one year? I can forgive that. He recognized his mistake and moved on. It's not like he is still trying to sell us Hoyer. I don't think some people will be happy until OB calls presser and admits that Hoyer was the worst mistake ever made in the history of football and allows fans to throw feces at him for it.

I'm looking at it this way...

OB came in and looked around at the talent we had (AJ, Nuk, but most importantly FOSTER) and he tried to mold an offense based around those guys. He even said it in that first game against the Redskins -- Run, Run, Throw it deep. He came in, made some moves to try to improve the line, and then tried to go with that approach. When Foster was at his peak, that's not necessarily a bad approach.

He concentrated the draft on trying to build up around JJ so that the defense would keep us in those ground and pound types of games.

I think now he's actually trying to put together a dynamic and exciting offense.

I just hope it works.

But we are also in the best QB situation this team has been in with Savage and Weeden. Savage is an unknown, but I do like Weeden who throws an excellent deep ball.

Even then I won't be happy. If Osweiler turns out to be what he's telling us he can be... then I'll stop barking up the Hoyer tree.

Had he stopped trying to sell us Hoyer after week 1, I wouldn't have a problem. But he kept going back to the well, thinking he made a mistake week 1. He even went to the players & told him he made a mistake week 1. Putting Hoyer in the game when Mallett comes out for a breather, & not letting him back in, going with Hoyer after he came back from concussion even though Weeden looked better, starting Hoyer against KC in the play offs, that was the biggest slap in the face, then leaving him in the entire game when he should have been benched again midway through the 2nd... Winning wasn't the most important thing to him that day. I can't forgive a HC for that.

Now I'll say, he might have made a mistake week 1 giving Mallett the reigns. I won't argue with that. But it was not a mistake to bench Hoyer.

Obviously it's your choice to hold on to all that. I'll choose to be happy that Hoyer is no longer here.

I think people are sleeping on Fuller a bit. Im a huge ND fan and Fuller gets open on deep routes better than any collegiate WR I've seen in a while. Everyone in the stadium knows he's a deep threat and he still gets open. Yes he drops some balls, BUT if he catches 6 out of 10 deep throws, the defense has to respect him which will open up the running game and other receivers. I envision Fuller being used as deep threat until we get in the red zone, at which point I'd swap him out for Strong. With Strong and Hop you have two tall WRs with good to great ball skills.

I've got a feeling that Miller will also be an Edelman type target in the red zone. Also dont go to sleep on Ervin in the slot also.

It sure feels good to have options/weapons on offense for a change.

Isn't the NFL using a slotting system for draft pick contracts now? Is there actually any real negotiating going on?

Yes. There's little leeway as far as annual compensation, but the structure, incentives, & guarantees among other things are still to be negotiated.

I keep picturing the mismatch possibilities with a 4 wr set and Ervin in the backfield.

Trips left (short side of the field), DHOP alone right lined up close to the right tackle. Ervin motions out toward DHOP's wide side of the field as close to the sideline as legal. The defense is threatened before snap horizontally as much as possible.

What would a dime defense do? Who shifts to cover ervin? A lb? Gold. A safety? That nearly isolates DHOP one on one. Gold.

Any number of route combinations can be run on the wide side but the most entertaining to me threaten vertically post snap. How many linebackers and safetys can match Ervin's 4.3 speed? How many corners can DHOP beat one on one?

Yeah, i know im just drawing up plays on Madden but the threat of speed coupled with DHOP'S dominance and Ervin's mismatch possibilities get me excited. I LOVE this pick and the flexibility it provides.

As I understand it, with the new CBA, there's virtually nothing that can be negotiated except for performance incentives........and beyond the 2nd round, those are even non-negotiable under the mandatory "proven performance escalator" which states that any player who plays in either 35% of his teams snaps over a three year period or has two individual seasons with at least 35% playtime will earn the set escalator. That's why you see the lower rounds being signed so early. No fuss, no muss.

Why would Ervin be in the game in this situation over Miller?

Maybe Miller had a long run and came out for a breather. Or maybe he needed to go to the restroom quickly. Maybe an equipment issue. Maybe the set was designed for Ervin. Maybe it was just the normal substitution pattern.

I don't know....why is any back up ever in for a starter???

I feel your pain, especially when you spend your hard earned $$$$ to watch that crap and it's not like a blind man couldn't see it coming.

With that said, you gotta let it go. Holding on to a memory like that is unhealthy. LOL

Good times are ahead.

Just think of it as holding on to feces...........no doubt, that is unhealthy.:backsout:
