Game 7...For The Division Lead...Jacksonville Jaguars!

JamTex

Hall Of Fame Texans Fan!
On Sunday, October 21st at 12 noon CST the Texans will travel to Jacksonville Florida to take on the Jacksonville Jaguars at TIAA Bank Field. The game will be aired on TV on CBS 11 and on radio on AM SportsTalk 610.

What to make of the Jaguars. They are not playing well at all on Offense and their Defense is faltering as well in the last 2 games. Of course Fournette has been injured, they have no viable tight end and only one receiving threat in Moncrief. Bortles has reverted back to the Bortles who is inaccurate and jittery in the pocket. Their defense has been giving up an average of 35 points a game the last 4 games as well. This appears to be a very beatable team. Not the same team as last year. But...They always play the Texans tough.

Here are the 2 teams.

The Texans are struggling on offense. The offensive line just can't protect Watson and he seems to be having problems in his decision making and holding on to the ball too long. This is going to have to be corrected. The Texans have won 3 in a row basically on the backs of the defense and believe it or not, special teams.
The offense needs to get going. They have way too many really good weapons and it's all being negated by a terrible offensive line that can't stop making mistakes, doesn't block well and commits way too many penalties. Devlin might need to be replaced if he can't get that line playing up to the level of the rest of the team. With Deshaun playing with bruised ribs, sternum and lung, he needs a line that can keep him from getting beat up any further.
Even though Watson was beat up, he still managed to take the ball down field on the last offensive drive of the game and set up the tying field goal against the Bills. He wants to win and doesn't give up.
This game against the Jaguars looks to be a very winnable one. Let's hope the offense gets on track just a little bit and takes some of the pressure off the defense and special teams in this one.
Because of that defense and remarkable special teams, if the offense contributes just a little more, I'm predicting a win.

Texans 20
Jaguars 13

Two straight weeks of losing on the road and the Jags are finally back at home.
What do we have here : a wounded, dangerous, ferocious big cat to be feared or a weak little puddy cat that can't protect itself ?

Plus for the Texans: Bortles is in full blown Bortles mode.

Minus for the Texans: We have the worst OL in the NFL against a superior defense.

Can't see the Texans winning this.

I'd say some where in the middle.... Bortles will be Bortles but this is definitely not a team to sleep on, especially after their embarrassing loss.

I'm thinking small things like Oline jumping off sides and dumb ass Clowney's taunting and lining up offsides will be corrected. TEs will be used more and successfully as will RBs catching ball as they have been very good at this. Defense will harass Bortles into several turnovers. Texans win.

As much as I want them to beat the jaggies, this years O'Briney coached team doesn't seem like the kind that can win four in a row.

I don't see a win. Dallas and KC have good lines, and controlled their pass rush for the most part. I dont think there is a chance for our line to block long enough for our receivers to come open honestly. It will look like last game, your only hope is to jump out to an early lead and have Bortles continue to do what he does. However I don't have faith in this team holding a lead, and Bortles has Bortled it up for a few games now he is due for a decent game, and the Texans like to be slump busters

Jagged Ones have some capable backups for Fournette and a QB who blows hot and cold and is due to deliver. Texans are just the team to bring out the best in a struggling opponent. We get our rear kicked over the crossbar. Spotted Cats 42, Toros 14.

Those uniforms the jaggies wore in the Dallas game were butt ugly awful. We should kick their ass on that account alone. :)

Man, you ain't lying. That was bad.

I'm not sure DW4 survives this game to tell you the truth. 15 sacks, 33 QB hits in this 3 game win streak.

Jacksonville has always played the Texans tough, even when they (Jacksonville that is) were one of the worst

After back to back ugly road losses, Jags are going to be extremely pissed and look to take it out on the Texans... hopefully OB has learned something from watching how KC and the Cowboys attacked them, but I don't count on it

Doesn't help when your learning curve is a circle.

I would have a conservative game plan on offense. Run the ball, no turnovers. Lean on the defense to keep the game close. Hope in the end, the ball bounces our way for a 12-9 victory.

I could go with this if only OB could scheme a WR or TE open early on a quick route and we had the corners to shut down opposing passing game. Sadly, we have none of the above. If you rely on running game, you have to do better than 3 ypc

I need some rules help. == Last week in the game, I noticed that the Texans O-line was lining up in a V-shape with the Guards a half yard behind the line and the tackles a yard behind the line. I then checked the Buffalo O-line and they were doing the same thing. Doesn't the O-line have to ALL be on the line of scrimmage?

I believe the rule states that their helmet has to be inside the interior players hip (or something like that). It's a pretty common practice

edit: where is @infantrycak? He'd find the rule for us

sh!t that was hard to complete for a drumk old man

What it means to be “on the line of scrimmage”

Like I said, there need to be seven players on the line of scrimmage. This includes any receivers who might be on the end of the line.

To be on the line, a player does not have to be lined up directly over the ball. In fact, he can be even up to a yard behind the ball and still be considered on the line.

By rule, to be “on the line of scrimmage,” a player’s head has to break the line drawn through the waistline (NCAA) or beltline (NFL) of the snapper.

You will regularly see linemen lined up well off the ball — And their positioning can give you some great insight on the impending play.

While the linemen are not directly over the ball, this formation by the New York Giants is legal:

giants_formation.jpg

This formation by the Giants is legal, with six linemen on the line and a receiver at the bottom of the formation you cannot see.
Notice the right tackle is lined up slightly behind the other linemen, but his helmet just about breaks the beltline of the snapper. While an official may mention to the right tackle that he’s close to the backfield, they certainly wouldn’t call him off the line here. This is a legal formation.

One little trick officials use to anticipate what kind of play the offense will run: When the linemen are lined up near the snapper’s waist, it’s a pass; When they are over the ball, it’s a run. Not always, but usually.

Back in the day, you could look at the weight they had on their hand to get a read whether they were drive blocking, pulling, or pass blocking. The world has changed and they don't even put the hand in the dirt a lot of the time. I still think you can see whether they are ready to rock fwd or back and get a read but it is more subtle

Anyone know if Fournette is playing in this game? I think he's been out the last couple of games with an injury. If he's back and at 100% I think the Texans will have a tough time beating the Jags.

He might play, but will be on a snap count from what I've read. Doesn't seem like he is ready to play, but they are desperate

That's awesome! Except you forgot the sarcasm emoji...

Only matchup that matters in this game strongly favors Jax. Does anyone have any confidence that this oline will hold up against an excellent Jax Defense? Win??? Hell, I just hope Watson doesn't land in the hospital.

20 - 13 Jax.

I think if we consistently pass block with 7-8 guys we can buy Watson maybe 3 seconds. I mean sure Hopkins and Fuller will have their hands full being the only 2 going out in routes, having to beat the other 7 guys the Jags have in coverage but hopefully Watson won't be being met at the top of his drops by Campbell and Ngakoue

I think this game will be decided by which QB can get off the slide. Watson fumbled twice (one recovered by defense) and threw 2 interceptions (one in the end zone) last game. If Watson is playing better than Bortles it’s not been by much. Pretty sad state of the Texans. And this is a bad game for Watson to get right.

If BOB schemes the Texans to a victory, I may have to give him a compliment. I just dont see us beating the Jags at their house after they have been embarrassed. Our oline is a bad matchup this week. We need RAC to shake Bortles so he pays turnovers like a slot machine

Texans 27, Jaguars 23

Find to a way to win like J.J. Watt says.

Four wins in a row and possibly sole possession of first place in the AFC South if the Chargers can beat the Titans in London. That game starts at 8:30 AM so we'll know the Titans final score before we kick off at 12 noontime.

Those first place Houston Texans!!!!
Four wins in a row sounds amazing as well.

People keep bashing Bill O'Brien and we keep winning. I love it!

Really like your enthusiasm. We'll take any wins/help we can get.

Not too sure that our relying on the other teams coach to be dumber than our coach is a good game plan.

Oilers fired the best coach they ever had because he wouldn't hire an offensive co-ordinator. :brickwall::deadhorse

I like this post but I need to be made aware of who the best HC was? Kubiak was marginal at best in Houston and as stubborn as a mule in executing his offense. Manning and a defense made him much smarter in Denver. He didn't have the same pull with Elway that he had in Houston in declining the services of Peyton Manning.

Kubiak was just a ball boy for the Oilers, not HC

From a Jaguars perspective..........interesting in many aspects but not entirely accurate observations.

Sexton-Oehser keys: Texans-Jaguars
John Oehser
Senior Writer

JACKSONVILLE – Senior writer John Oehser and senior correspondent Brian Sexton break down three Jaguars keys for Sunday’s game against the Houston Texans at TIAA Bank Field in Jacksonville

Oehser …

1.Disrupting Deshaun Watson. This doesn’t just mean sacking and hitting the Texans’ second-year quarterback; it means containing him, too. The Jaguars have struggled in the last season and a half with mobile quarterbacks – and this season’s losses have come to quarterbacks such as Marcus Mariota of the Tennessee Titans, Patrick Mahomes of the Kansas City Chiefs and Dak Prescott of the Dallas Cowboys. Those offenses to varying degrees have gotten quarterbacks outside the pocket to extend plays, and to get the Jaguars’ aggressive defense out of position. Watson, who sustained a torn anterior cruciate ligament last season, is rushing for 5.3 yards per carry this season compared to 7.6 yards last season – so he’s perhaps not quite the threat outside the pocket as before the injury. Still, he evades the rush well enough to give the Jaguars problems – and getting quarterbacks outside the pocket figures to be a tactic teams use against the Jaguars until they do something to discourage it.

2.Scoring early. This is something every team wants to do, but it has taken on enormous importance for the Jaguars. They have started well offensively and taken first-quarter leads in all three victories this season – 20-9 at the New York Giants in Week 1, 31-20 at home against New England in Week 2 and 31-12 at home against the New York Jets in Week 4; they never trailed in any of those games. They have scored three total first-half points in their three losses this season – 9-6 at home to Tennessee in Week 3, 30-14 at Kansas City Chiefs in Week 5 and 40-7 at Dallas in Week 6; they never led in any of those games. The Jaguars’ offense ran just 47 plays for 204 yards in a stunningly one-sided loss to Dallas, and the offense appeared to have no options against a very good Dallas defense. This feels like a similar matchup, with the Texans playing very well defensively – and with defensive end J.J. Watt returning to his 2015, pre-injury form. Getting their first come-from-behind victory of the season won’t be an easy task for the Jaguars Sunday.

3.Blocking the Texans front. This figures to be a tricky task – and a key to the Jaguars getting offensive success. Watt has returned to his disruptive, Pro Bowl form after two injury-plagued seasons, and end Jadeveon Clowney also is a pass-rushing force. While linebacker Whitney Mercilus has started slower than Watt and Clowney, the Texans’ three-headed pass rush makes Houston’s defensive front as dangerous as any in the NFL. That group has enabled the Texans’ defense to play at a high level in recent weeks despite a rash of injuries in the secondary, particularly at cornerback. Part of the reason for Jaguars quarterback Blake Bortles’ struggles recently: an injured offensive line allowed far more pressure against Kansas City and Dallas then it had in the season’s first four games. Yes, the Jaguars need to run this week – and they would love to have running back Leonard Fournette back. But with or without Fournette, the Jaguars must somehow give Bortles a second or two more this week than he has had the past two games.

Sexton…

1.Create CHAOS around the quarterback. You may have heard that Watson can be a difference-maker – and he does have a strong arm. But he’s getting killed behind a beat-up offensive line, having been hit 66 times and sacked 25 times in six games. Word is he gets flustered and makes situations worse by running into trouble. The guy has a cannon for an arm, is courageous and has a track record that says “winner” – but he has only started 12 games and never has played in Jacksonville. The Jaguars don’t need 10 sacks … wait: yes, they do; if the Jaguars’ defense can recreate the pressure and chaos it did in Houston in Week 1 last season, it can force turnovers and maybe find the end zone for just the second time this season. Chaos comes from the game plan and they must get after Watson with everything they have.

World champions for the moment, but the Astros are dead meat. Bosox with their Sale Price rotation next world champs.

I don't really have a feel for this game one way or the other. If we win, it will be a marginal victory that we somehow are gifted by bad play from Bortles late in the game. If we lose, which I lean more towards, it will be a drubbing and get right game for the Jags. Division rival on the road doesn't reek of success. I'm gonna say 31-16 Jags.
