When will Texas finally find a good QB? You can damn near throw a rock and hit a good one on any given Friday night in this state.
Texas is ranked #23 in the country.
Surely they'll beat unranked Maryland.
Only down 31-29, plenty of 4th quarter left. I expect Texas to dominate when they return from a rain delay. Hook 'em, Horns!
I finally found the game on FS1. I'll watch Texas win.
I'd rather have seen the Houston Cougars with a #23 ranking instead of Texas. But we start off in the low 50's or high 40's as usual.Did they really deserve a preseason ranking though? They get a preseason ranking, strictly because they are Texas.
That qb is a turnover waiting to happen with the game on the line.
Oh yeah, listened to Austin radio after the loss. Lack of patience is real with UT. He was the golden child. Is Tom Herman going to make it through this season as the head coach of Texas? At what point does he start to feel the heat? Or does he have job security the first couple of years?
I'm just not impressed with what he's done so far in Austin. He had much better success here in H-Town. I guess the grass isn't always greener on the other side, but the money sure is.
Tom Herman is getting paid too much money for "average results."

Who'd have thought Maryland would sweep UT lol.
Throw in the distraction with Myer and OSU

I agree they do suck! what I saw vs Maryland was a damn shame...Had no heart coming out everything on offense immediately sputtered a
defense that couldn't cover or tackle, only to be slammed worse by the ejection for targeting and Davis going out with an injury. I'm sorry
Pee Wee Herman is not the coach for this team and Orlando sucks as a play caller
the A.D. needs to find someone more suitable to this program that can go out and get the top recruits before the others have the chance
to at least interview top recruits
Im done with that kid. Totally believe the running ability is why he got the start. Doesn't matter when he turns the ball over on a possible game winning drive. I think he had that happen three times last year and he opens the season with another oneRegardless of playcalling or anything else, nothing is going to change until they get a QB. They haven't had one worth a **** going on a decade now. You can't compete in the offense oriented Big 12 without one. Hell today you can't compete in division I football period without one.
It boggles my mind how a school like Texas given all of their resources and the talent in this state, doesn't have a blue chip signal caller playing every year, while also having a highly touted recruit waiting in the wings to replace him.
UofH has even knocked UTs dick in the dirt when it comes to QB talent over the last decade and they were viewed not good enough to join the conference..and that's not even mentioning the other schools like T.T. and Baylor in conference. All of those school's have worked circles around the supposed state gem university in the QB department. This is and has been Texas' biggest problem.
Ehlinger is NOT a good QB.. he holds on to the ball way too long, isn't accurate at all, his release takes too long, and he's a HORRIBLE decision maker. He's a physical runner, but that's the only positive thing he has going for him.

The problem at Texas has more to do with offensive coaching than it does with QB talent. That's not to say that Texas has had phenomenal talent at the position, but they've had some capable players.
The offense has lacked an identity and philosophy ever since Greg Davis left. What Davis lacked as a play caller he made up for as a developer of talent.
Texas is bringing talented kids in, and then they are never improving once they get on campus. And it certainly doesn't help that the school has had six Offensive Coordinators in the last eight seasons. There is no consistency.
The current staff has shown an abysmal ability to self-scout. They have no idea what their strengths and weaknesses are. And they have no philosophy or plan on offense because who they want to be doesn't match who they are. Herman wants this team to be a Power Spread but they lack speed at the skill positions and blocking ability across the board. The WR blocking is even worse than the OL. So it's very confusing that they are always wanting to attack the edges with slow players running behind guys who can't block.
It usually takes about three or four drives every single game until they realize it's not working. And then they're lost and all they can do is spread it out and ask the QB to play hero ball. That's why I have a hard time blaming Ehlinger. Yes, his accuracy is a problem and he's had numerous game-clinching turnovers, but this team can't even get first downs without him on the field. He literally carries the offense the whole game in spite of the coaches and then becomes the bad guy when they lose. The truth is, they get blown out in this game if he's not the QB.
Dude, I wonder that every season. How can Texas (arguably the most recognized university in the state, located in one of the coolest cities in the state, not recruit a top QB in it's own backyard every year. It's mind boggling.
The only reason I can think of is no one wants to play in the crappy Big 12. I can see Texas kids preferring A&M just because they get to play against other SEC schools. Other Texas kids I can see just wanting to play out of state just to get away from home and experience life outside of their home state.
Missouri native and Mizzou fan who enjoyed being able to watch the Tigers play in the Big 12 but piggy Texas screwed up the conference and now Missouri is in a real football conference.
Right on OP, Texas does def suck.
Coaching is an issue, the OL still sucks, How long to it take to build a competent OL? 9 yrs and counting. I liked what I saw from the freshman RB.
The WR situation I cant understand, when you have two 6'4/6'6 guys that weigh more than 225 lbs they should be better than avg blockers. Something else I dont understand Humphrey/Johnson/Heard are their best WR's IMHO and should be playing 90% of the snaps. This could also be affecting the blocking issues.
Did you get the feeling that I had yesterday with 5 mins left in the game that Ehlinger was going to find a way to lose that game? Dude is so unclutch and has well documented accuracy problems. Yesterday let me know how far away the Horns are from the Alabama/Clemson's of the world. For the 1st time I'm beginning to question if Herman is the guy to take the Horns program where it should be.
Thing is with Fisher in College Station the Horns could become 2nd fiddle to A&M soon if changes aren't made quickly and Idont see Herman as a guy who adapts well to change on the fly.
Think about this, Maryland owns Texas in football. That's the current state of the UT program. # Sad
To be honest, I wouldn't recruit OL from the state of Texas, no matter what caliber of athlete they are. The level of instruction OL in this state are receiving in high school is pitiful. The spread offense has killed Texas HS football. 9th graders in Louisiana are more advanced than kids graduating in Texas.
Like I said, I have a hard time blaming Ehlinger. He is totally dependent on Humphrey. He has no other weapons at this point and the offensive system doesn't scheme guys open. I do like Ingram and I think the Cal transfer is a good find. As crazy as this sounds, I actually have confidence in Ehlinger. I think he'll eventually grow out of this phase once guys around him start making some plays and he doesn't feel like he has to do everything. And I don't think Texas has any other choice than to ride him anyway. He's by far the best option they have at this point.
thx, the ol thing is good to know, i remember a time when the state of texas was known for developing ol. Jerry Sizemore
You dont think Johnson is a playmaker? They miss Hemphill-Mapps that much. To think they have two 225 lb WR'S that cant block tells me the need a new WR coach.
My brother watched the spring game and told me there's a frosh QB that can really spin it. Of course the question is can he fit Herman's offense and if he cant why did they recruit him. I disagree with you on Ehlinger, his accuracy issues will remain with him as long as he plays QB. They gotta find a QB.
Lol big 12 is trash all because of ESPN and a failed experiment
Aggies have a better chance of figuring it out due to conference.
It makes more sense, sounds right if Mizzou had gone into the Big 10 instead which almost happened and reportedly was their first preference because the Big 10 isTrue, I’ve never been a fan of the Big XII. I wish they would just dissolve it and Texas would join the SEC or reform the old SWC. As for the Tigers I still have a hard time thinking of Mizzou as an SEC school. They seem out of place there.
God he is horrible. I wish Herman had the balls to pull him at halftime.
Totally agreeyou make it sound as if Texas was losing big time... it's 22-14 UT
Totally agree
He sucks. This is a bad UT team playing a bad USC team. Dont know why USC is ranked
Well if have watched UT football past two years you would see a qb that nuts up when game on the line. Dude is like 0-5 on possible game winning drives WITH turnovers. He sucks.Ok, don't know what that has to do with my post...

This game is trash. USC is overrated with a 12 yr old a qb.
Throw in that Texas gets TCU next right. They leading Ohio state right now.
TCU a bad matchup for Texas.
Looks like OSU is getting after TCU now
Ok, I see his side and yours. I'm on his side lol. Texas should be blowing this team out. USC is trash. Only thing they had last year was a pro qb. Texas should have beat them last year.None of this has anything to do with my post. I wasn't arguing his overall perspective... just this particular game
