Hard Knocks Cleveland Browns

Did anybody else watch Hard Knocks last night? Would love your thoughts. Mine are

1. Hugh has gone through a lot of stuff lately, feel sorry for the guy
2. I'm starting to see why there is so much dysfunction in the organization
3. I started watching because I wanted to like the Browns. That poor fan base, gotta feel sorry for them. But by the end I was like, it's hard to pull for someone who keeps shooting themselves in the foot. I don't see them going better than 1-15
4. Baker Mayfield lied to his teamates on camera
5. I highly doubt that Baker Mayfield is the answer
6. Tyrod Taylor is old!
7. Can't remember the receivers name, but he couldn't even pronounce Tyrod, the starting QB's first name. Not good

I didnt see Baker lying...Probably missed it.

I thought he showed some good things though...I like his football personality...

Well if I'm not mistaken his signing bonus was something like $22 mil and he told his teammates it was $7. (I know he joked and said "after taxes" but still, he had to know he was being filmed for Hard Knocks and his teammates will see that he lied to them). Maybe a small thing, but still

Yeah....I missed that, but it sounds like he was joking about the taxes coming out like you said...

I don't think it's a big deal...Any of them could just pull out a cell phone and look his contract up...

I wouldn’t follow Hugh Jackson into war. Nice enough guy but I don’t see it.
That scene where Jackson was grieving alone (except for the camera) was uncomfortable and unnecessary. So was the scene where the assistants were questioning Jackson's decisions. Bad idea for this team to let Hard Knocks into camp.

Exactly what I thought.. especially the grieving scene. It was extremely uncomfortable and unnecessary..I fast forwarded through it.

As far as the other scene.. there's clearly a disconnect between Hugh and his assistants/Coordinators.. especially Todd Haley who is known to be outspoken. If things start off rough I can see that getting real ugly fast. I don't think Hugh's "my way or the highway" approach is the right way to go about things and he looked incredibly soft as far as how to handle players as well as alienating his coaching staff.

The Browns beat the Giants, 20-10.
Baker Mayfield looked good with 2 TD passes.

Per ESPN.com: Replacing starting quarterback Tyrod Taylor late in the first quarter, Mayfield hit 11 of 20 passes for 212 yards, two touchdowns, and converted two fourth-down plays with his feet.

And Dez Bryant may sign with the Browns soon.
Things are looking up for the next Hard Knocks episode.

Is Tyrod Taylor really the starter though?
What if Baker Mayfield out-performs him in preseason?

Don’t know anything about mayfiel other than what I saw in the first episode which wasn’t much.

But I love his demeanor in practice. You can tell he loves football.

Tyrod only has this year left on his deal. He knows he's keeping the seat warm until the rookie is ready. They both looked decent. I'd keep playing Tyrod until he inevitably gets hurt or starts stinking it up. No need to get Mayfield killed out there.

Not me. I enjoy every second of Cleveland being the "**** pit" of NFL football for as long as it has. Hope it lasts for another 50 years. :koolaid:

He's pronouncing it right. Everyone else has been saying it wrong.

Browns player reveals we've been pronouncing Tyrod Taylor's name wrong this entire time
https://www.cbssports.com/nfl/news/...ng-tyrod-taylors-name-wrong-this-entire-time/

On Monday, justice for Roback arrived. And the truth about Tyrod Taylor emerged.

It turns out, everyone has been pronouncing Tyrod Taylor's name wrong this entire time. According to Browns left tackle Joel Bitonio, Tyrod Taylor's first name is actually pronounced Tuh-rod, not Ty-rod.

...

And we've all been pronouncing his name wrong for over a decade. Meanwhile, Taylor's been too nice to correct us. Hell, Roback tried to tell us a week ago and we all just laughed him off as the fourth-string quarterback who didn't know his teammate's name.

Jackson still looks better than Philbin did when they had the Dolphins. Lord he was the weakest looking/sounding coach I've ever seen. Not a shock that he got canned so quickly.

Having lost my mom a few months ago, it hit me right in the heart. And yeah, it was totally unnecessary.

Damn, the Browns are so incompetent.. they were running at will on the Eagles then 4 straight incomplete passes from the 1 yard line.

BTW.. it looks like they already lost their 1st round pick (#4 ovrl from us) Denzel Ward to a back injury..

AND...now it looks like they just lost Tyrod Taylor to a wrist injury.

So the Baker Mayfield era may have just begun.

I'm not seeing the hype surrounding Baker Mayfield..

He only sees one half of the field.. I have yet to see him even attempt or complete a pass to his left.. almost every single pass is to the right sideline. The guy can only make one read and if isn't there his goose is cooked.

If he doesn't fix this he's going to be easy to defend in this league. The defense can damn near ignore half of the football field.

I sat through the first quarter of that game, it sucked. Both the offenses looked absolutely horrid. And the Browns?? Wth man? 4 straight passes at the 1 yd line? lol

I think Greg Williams might be a little happier on the next episode. I tuned out about halfway through the 2nd qt. Just flipped it back on to see if Baker might be in, and it's still 5-0

Kudos to the Browns. 5-0 win over the defending Super Bowl champs. It's just preseason but they've got to feel good about themselves whenever possible. Coming off an 0-16 season any win is still a win.

That's the thing about pre-season though. They obviously felt like they needed to get the reps for those set of plays in in that situation. Most likely a much different set of play calls in the regular season. Then again, it is the Browns.

The Eagles have been a steaming pile so far in the preseason.. It looks like Nick Foles' carriage has turned back into a pumpkin and also looks like the team has been reading a lot of headlines since the Superbowl win..

But again, it's still only preseason. It will be much harder for them this year when every team is going to try to beat the "SB champs" every week though.

You didn't miss much, it basically went like this..

Baker throws right..
Baker throws right..
Baker throws right..
Baker throws right..
Baker throws right..... interception. Baker exits the game.

back to back plays, fade to Landry in the back corner of end zone. Not even close. same exact play, and looked like same exact formation. Maybe they were just "working on the play", but like you said, it's the Browns. And I think Hue Jackson is an awful coach.

You have to let your RBs and your Oline eat/reward them in that situation...especially when they're the ones that got you down there in the first place. Instead they didn't even get 1 attempt out of 4 tries.

Hue Jackson surrounding himself with big personality guys like Gregg Williams and Todd Haley certainly makes him look weak in comparison. Though, you can see why Haley is generally hated by everyone that coached with or played for him.

Did every player Hard Knock featured get cut? Even the 1v1 battle between Orchard & Nassib ended with both getting cut.
