State of the O-line

Those backups now that they have a real shot will improve the offensive line from 32 to 16 this season. A lot of the offensive linemen came in as backups. So I don't understand why we're so worked up about that.

Then stop asking. You don't get what you don't give.

Then quit throwing sh!t out there.

Or better yet quit responding to my posts.

I'm not changing the way I do things. You need to get used to it. I would've thought you would be used to the way I am by now.

Look it up for yourself the Texans and Reliant signed a 30 yr 10 mil a yr naming rights deal. McNair is a brilliant businessman.

I didn't see a link.

The county has a great deal if they're making 10 mil a yr off of stadium rental.

They aren't. If the county is making 3 mil a yr they have a hell of a deal on their hands.

I'm curious to know how much rent the McNair's/HLS&R pay in rent. I bet it isn't more than a million a piece. So 9 mil a yr/270 mil over the life of the lease is a unbelievable deal. NRG's deal is only with the Texans I believe. Regardless the McNair's have made a fortune putting a crap product on the field.

I know this is difficult for you but tell me what you think of the OL prospects this yr. make your call, how good do you think they will be next yr? I say in the 20-25 range which will be an improvement over last yr.

Texans pay $4.01 mill, not sure about HLS&R but I'm sure it's more than that... you can google that one

HOUSTON — Reliant Stadium, the surrounding park and all of the facilities in it are being rebranded.

The governing board of the Harris County Sports and Convention Corp., which owns the complex, voted Wednesday to rename the Reliant complex after the Texas-based electric retailer’s parent company, NRG Energy.

I wonder what the split of the naming rights is between Harris County/NRG/LS&R?

That article was just about changing the name of the stadium

C'mon man

Didn't say anything about where the money goes.

That's what I want to know. I can see Harris County having say in the naming rights.

Put it into perspective with some common sense. If you owned a landscaping co. and went and bought a trencher, and MagicBird sprinklers offere you 1K a year for 10 years to carry an advertisement on the side of it, would you share that $ with other companies that leased the trencher from you on an 'as needed' basis?

Depends on if that tenant brought in millions more than I could get from another tenant. At that point my tenant would become my partner.

So, the Texans should be a partner with HC and get a percentage of everything HC? Toll roads etc?

Way to twist things around.

I

we were talking hypothetical, and you stated that bringing in millions more should make a tenant a partner..Texans pay millions more than HLS&R, so they should be a partner right? And partners share profits right?

He doesn't provide links because you can't provide links to made up in his head facts.... I like what he brings to the board, constant tension but seriously you guys are arguing with a troll....

Makes statements, won't provide links, believes everything that comes out of his mouth as indisputable facts

Other provide links clearly showing he is wrong

Response? Noooooo.... I'm pretty sure I'm right

You are arguing with the Texans talk version of Dwight Schrute.

FACT: Bob McNair stole SteelB's lunch money for an entire year of junior high - this is known by all as the seed money which led to Bob's unbelievable wealth leading to a lifelong blood feud between the two.

Link? Yeah I don't think so... I stated a fact, you provide a link that proves I'm wrong!

You can't/won't? HAHAHA told you I was right.

So if the Texans win a SB by 2052 it will be that sweet?

Lol, I don't think I can hold on that long, literally :)

My grandfather is a huge life long Astros/Colts .45s fan, he's still with us, but the end is near.. He used to take me to a lot of games when I was a kid..he's too feeble to go to games now, but still watches every game from his recliner. I was more happy for him to finally see them win a championship than anything else.. Lol I'm sure it was on his bucket list :) I'll probably bury that man in a Astros jersey.

That's awesome! First MLB game I went to was at Colts .45s stadium. It's been a very long ride. Wish my dad would have been here to see them finally win it all

Sign a bunch of backup OL and it's the coaches fault.

BTW, I dont think Devlin is a good OL coach either.
Trying to get back on topic...

I really don’t know the answer to this. I just know we’ve had decent to very good OLs under the Kubiak era. When BOB took over, we had good talent on the line with DB, Myers & Brooks, but the OL didn’t perform very well. Every year, the line has gotten worse under BOB. We bring in guys like XSF, Martin and Allen... guys that were supposed to be good, but they perform below their potential.

To me, signs point to coaching.

Allen & Martin, especially Allen have been significant disappointments but health/injury was a very large factor in the inability of either to play as expected.
XSF more than anything seems to represent a huge opportunity cost for other prospects the Texans passed on at the head of the second round back in 2014
to select him.
So with Martin being the only remaining player of the three interior lineman hopefully he's healthy this year.

We dont know this.

Glad to know you would rather have backups than the proven all pro players/starters. Especially when they had the cap room to add these players.

The old SNL Lowered Expectations skit comes to mind.

Martin and Allen were basically injury casualties throughout, while XSF was a mental casualty........liked to eat and not condition........came into the League a doughboy...........and left the Texans a doughboy.

Brooks 2014 season with O'Brien was marred with turf toe which he played through from the beginning of Oct to the end of that season. His 2015 season almost from the beginning (although never publicly disclosed early on)was plagued with anxiety disorder which progressed to the end of that season with more and more frequent panic attacks. All of this was misdiagnosed as gastric ulcer disease, even after hospital admissions and workups (which were the first time any of his ongoing difficulties were ever reported).

I hope you took it as an attempt at humor - may of had some opinion and fact sprinkled in but all in all just trying to lighten the mood a bit.

I have a lot of respect for your football opinions, seem to be a very knowledgeable guy especially about college players where I don't really have the time or desire to look at most years.

Your McNair and Texans org opinions - yeah we don't really see eye to eye, but you believe what you believe and be damned with popular opinion you stick with your convictions (Cak too but on the opposite side!).

I do think you are setting yourself up for continual disappointment - football and football fans aren't what they used to be, for the most part, and we can't go back in time. Society has changed and football has followed suit.

Following along with my previous format...

FACT: I want for the Texans to win, be a contender, viewed as a contender, win the next 10 Super Bowls etc. etc. etc. I spend very little to no money on the Texans org, go to maybe one game a year, own two jerseys that were birthday gifts from family, would rather see the the team win it all on a dirt field where no beer is sold then have an awesome game day experience

Now the unfortunate part...

OPINION: I know about 150 to 200 Texans "fans" from people I work with, play pool with yada yada..... granted this isn't a large sample size, but my opinion is it holds true for most teams in todays NFL. 99% only care about the experience, the fact a football game happens is a happy little bonus. They show up and start to BBQ and tailgate as soon as it is allowed. By the time the game starts half of them don't know which team the Texans are, they boo when other people boo, and cheer when people cheer. They could give a rats ass about who won the game.

So I agree with you the Texans org and Bob (along with the rest of the NFL) care a great deal about the game day experience and making money - this isn't an altruistic enterprise, these people care about making money #1 because most businesses that don't make a profit, don't survive. You would have to give me an example of an owner that cares so much about winning they are willing to lose money (not really possible in today's NFL market).

All that said it doesn't prevent the Texans from winning a SB, I hope each year they figure it out and this is our time. When it doesn't happen a take 15 minutes to grieve then get on with my otherwise amazing and happy life.

TLDR: I like you SteelB - Keep it up!

You are missing my points. We've seen plenty of backups who became pretty good players once they got their start.

I get your point.

There also have been plenty of backups that have failed.

All pro's and multiple yr starters rarely fail.

If you have the cap space why increase the odds of failure when you can get the more sure thing?

They tried. It always takes two to tangle. Plan one had to be Solders. Plan B more and likely was Norwell. Unfortunately he was the Jaguars first option. Just tough luck.

They seem to always try and fail in FA.

It's a theme.

Or in the case of last yr, not even try.

At some point fans should be asking why they continue to fail.

Looks as if Donald Penn has lost his starting spot in Oakland and may get cut.

He's coming off a lisfranc but I wonder if he might make sense as a late pickup to come in and compete at OT.

John Simon another possible target as a victim of scheme change in Indy, could come in and help out with the OLB rotation.

I was curious so I looked it up... HLS&R only pays a bit over 1 mil per year
Link please
not because I don't believe you but because my googling came up dry. I want to know where you finally found the info.

If Indy cuts Simon then look for Vrable now in Nashville to pick him up as Vrable is the coach who brought him to Houston.

A post Lisfranc 35 year old normally 320 lb OT, who has had weight problems in the past and from what I understand has gained significant weight during his relatively sedentary rehab?

Doc, you were the exact person I was expecting to shoot down this straw grasping on my part.

Wasn't aware of his weight issues or indeed his less than stellar rehab. Great knowledge on your part.

You went through that 200+ page lease agreement just to help Steelb (and now me)?
Impressive.
That's worth a 'Like'.

Thanks, but I didn't have to go through the entire document... there is a table of contents that clearly show the lease terms/payments on page 15/16
