Drunk Texans Talk

I drinks a bit also and should slow down cause I'm getting older .

It's a bitch isn't it, but I'm kicking that selfish controlling bitch out of my bed next week. Oh well 1 day at a time.

If y'all don't hear from me for awhile (could be gone for months)..I didn't die or anything, I'm leaving to get well so I don't die. Like the Herp though...I'll be back MFers!!! :)

This is my last couple of weekends, I'mgoing to enjoy them..God why do I think the Stros are finally going to do something or we might have a badass QB... lol that's how it goes.lol

Knock it out bud. We've all got our demons, it takes next level gumption to stand up and face it head on. Everyone here is on your side and we want what's best for you. I've lived decades under this influence - seeing a friend attempt to set it aside is quite inspiring and I'm sure you're journey will be difficult but ultimately fulfilling. I've seen many folks who have found the other side, it's quite a green pasture, and I'm looking forward to your description of it's beauty. God go with you.

Thank you and I appreciate your and this boards kind words and support... we never truly meet, but we argue like brothers and sisters and it's good to have people to talk to and it does mean a lot.

Very interesting you pointed that out. Before my first transplant (I believe something was wrong with that liver - it failed within 5 months) I used to listen to this song all the time -

People at work, well one guy used to make fun of the color of my skin. It was yellow. On thanksgiving of 2013 I was driving to my parents and on my way I had car problems. I was driving to Conroe from League City. My brother was driving from Lake Jackson. I had to pull off the interstate before I even got to Almeda Mall and pulled my car into a parking lot. My brother called and said he'd pick me up and my parents would drive down and we would just eat at a restaurant near where I was. It was about 80 degrees and by the time my brother arrived, which was about 30 minutes later I was in bad shape. We got to the restaurant, I was sweating bullets and pretty much unresponsive. So they rushed me to the hospital and the nurse said "you're glowing". It was like my skin was radioactive. My total bilirubin was in the 40's. Doc knows what that indicates but it was no surprise to me or anyone else.

Anyway, there's lyrics in that song - "I could either drown/or pull off my skin and swim to shore/Now I can grow a beautiful shell for all to see"

That meant a lot to me back then. My eyes were piss yellow and my skin was orange. When I looked in the mirror I thought I was looking at an alien. I didn't see myself anymore. I was either going to die, and the lyrics had meaning (to me) or...I was going to get the transplant and the lyrics had meaning.

After much coaxing they got me to even agree to have the transplant and one of the first thing my nurse practitioner said to me was she loved seeing her patients after a liver transplant. The transformation. And that transformation happens to every addict/alcoholic/cross addict when they get sober. They grow a new beautiful shell for all to see. And that's because they're genuinely happy for the first time in probably a long time.

Good luck my friend .

I hope all is better when you get a chance to read this .

Well I'm checking in.. they let us go to the local library, so I have internet access for just a little bit before they take us back.. I have now been sober for about 2 weeks and feel as good as I've felt in a very long time. (I've already put on about 12 pounds). Originally I was just going to do the detox and short stay, but now I have decided to work the full program which is about 18-24 months.. I want to nip this in the butt, might as well. I won't be able to make contact again for probably another few weeks, but I do get to watch the Texan games and Watson!... they have cable, so there is that. (Astros royally pissed me off though blowing that lead though)

Anyhow.. I love all you guys and I'm going to use this time to work on myself (they have a gym.. might just hit the weights for 2 years :)) Have to wrap this up now.. y'all take care, I'll make contact again as soon as I can, y'all take care and GO TEXANS!!!

Good work CB ! I'm glad you can keep up with the local sports teams as frustrating as that can be . Keep up the good work and I think I found the 12 lbs you've lost .

Awesome! I certainly advocate for doing the full program. Quitting is easy, staying quit is the hard part and that's where the extended program can and will make the difference. I've quit repeatedly, and feel infinitely better for a while, but without structure to keep the problem at bay - relapse is almost guaranteed. You have already shown the strength and wisdom to create a better life by choosing the long term option. I couldn't be more excited for you and your new life, good luck brother. Can't wait for your next report, I'm truly enthusiastic about your updates. God go with you.

Well said! I heartily endorse this message and add my blessings to it

Guess what.
I haven't drank a beer in seven years (2010) when I was still in my 20's. I've been sober nearly eight years now. But with how poorly the Texans have played along with the shutdown of my favorite PC game, Marvel Heroes Omega, I've been very tempted to drink again this past week.

The problem with me is I don't just drink a little bit. I could chug an entire keg by myself at parties. Almost at once (non stop) but I'd take a quick break just to breathe. I could drink four or five 12-packs of beer in half a day. Or two 32-packs. I spent a lot of my paychecks on beer. During one entire weekend I may have consumed more alcohol than any other man could drink in at least a few weeks.

I definitely don't want to go back to that place again.
Looking back, I don't know how I'm still alive today.

I'm very similar, though my inherited drink of choice (that I picked up early in highschool) is bourbon. Likewise I have trouble moderating ... when I drink, it eventually becomes more of a mission than a recreation. I would harp on not going back because of my own experience, but you obviously know better and I sense you've moved past letting destructive impulses make bad decisions for you. You've been there and know what happens.

The Texans will have their ups and downs, the Astros own the WS Banner, and the Rockets are tops in the league. Marvel will get a new MMO franchise in the relatively new future, and with the age of 'Heroes' it will be a very considerable upgrade as well as a chance to start from the beginning. Things could be worse lol.

Shitt always happens, that doesn't mean you have to walk through it.

My plan would make me happy and may even work... but then again...

Thx JB.

So for the drunk topic. Clearly wayward son wants to run around at night in a mule and spotlight deer. "You understand this is illegal and I'm a bowhunter?" Ok, I'll go along just to make sure you don't shoot anything.

I don't like riding herd on someone else's kid. Drunk belligerent kid. When the phrase comes out "I'm going to hurt you" it's not good.

Took him back to daddy. Oddly folks with kids like that don't appreciate when you curb them

Just to clarify, this kid was 26+. I wouldn't threaten a teen.

Well other than connected to my daughter. Turns out she is more intimidating than me. Bear rules.

Best to you on this journey. if I put together a few more one days at a time I will make 4 years sober on June 13. If you (or anyone) need support from this side, contact me privately and can try to relay my experience over advice.

I am still trying to find...

Rancher had sun tea gallon jugs hung up. Some kind of pheromone in the water. 3" thick layer of skeeters. They'd fly in and drown.

Sat out there 3 nights without a bite. Maybe it was tequila.
I've used this one before.

Clear water bottles also work great as a fly deterrent

A little wine in a curved glass works well for flies - they get in but can't get out. Trouble with stuff like this is you're attracting as much as you're killing. I think the best investment is one or several of those charged tennis rackets. Entertaining and effective.

that's why you use water in a clear bottle... their multi-faceted eyes see cores of HUGE flies flying at them

makes them goose-**** runny so to speak

Very drunk, not at all Texans, but fits the past few posts ... how in the hell did I get gnats and how to I get rid of them? I have no fruit or veggies to have brought them in (neighbors certainly do), but I can't seem to kill them fast enough or at the source.

When you wash food down your drain, garage disposal a film builds up and the gnats lay there eggs in this film. Bleach doesn't kill the eggs. There is a foam called hot spot that you can get from a company called Univar or another company called Solutions They are at various locations around Houston and Dallas.

Use a fogger to kill the existing gnats. Then put the hot spot in all of the drains in the house and that should do the trick. Depending on how bad they are you may need to do this again in thirty days.
