Jaylen Samuels.

If OB continues to run the offense as he did when Watson tearing it up, there isn’t a better fit in this draft that Samuels.

The guy is a weapon that could be had fairly cheap. I really hope we get this guy. Anyone else feel this way?

It would be hard to pass on Dallas Goedert at 68 if he is there and we haven't moved around.
Guy is very talented and will be NFL ready.

Can he help at all in the running game? If so, then Samuels would make sense. Otherwise, he's really limited as a H-Back only.

In the run game. In the passing game. In the return game. This guy can help everywhere. He Could be a weapon in the right scheme.

I'm sliding my chips into Smythe's (ND / 6-5 @ 257 lbs) corner since I think there's a very good chance he will be there in RD3 or RD4.

I could say the same Andrews (OK / 6-5 @ 256 lbs), Goedert (SD St / 6-5 @ 255 lbs) or Samuels (NC St / 5-11 @ 223 lbs) but all these guys could be gone by RD3. If they're still on the board it could be that Andrews and Goedert are viewed as exclusive receiving TE's with little blocking skills. As for Samuel's, he's a shorter version of Anderson who's primary position would be as an "H" Back. Why does the team need a shorter version?

Smythe is a throwback "Y" TE who is an above average blocker, which in the Texans system...makes him an easy Day 1 starter who should be an impact player. With Watson's ability to move, even a guy like Smythe could become a very good safety outlet receiver.

Fumagalli (6-6 @ 248 lbs) is an average blocker and a much better receiver, even with 9 fingers. This game of football has not come easy for him so for every bit of success he's had, he's worked his tail-end off to achieve it. Kind of guy that could blossom into a really good TE.

Both of these TE's could work very well in this offense and balance the TE position with Griffin and Anderson since I think both of these guys represent the receiving TE's. This would cover the 2018 season.

As for 2019, I'd fully expect Conque (6-5 @ 232 lbs) and Robinson (6-8 @ 242 lbs) to enter a legitimate competition to replace both Griffin and Anderson after (possibly) another season on the PS while they continue their development. Both TE's possess 4.5-40 speed but Robinson also brings a 40+" Vertical which at 6-8 could make for some awesome mismatches. Both guys should also develop their skills out of the "H" Back or Slot Receivers since they both have the speed to create those desired mismatches. Robinson should be an absolute beast in the Red Zone.

I don't really think the best use of Samuels in the NFL would be at H-Back/TE.

He's not a good enough blocker to make hay as a true FB and he lacks the length to really help out as a blocker on the edge, which limits his versatility as a TE. He's also not going to win routes downfield in the seam. Most of his work is going to come closer to the line of scrimmage.

He's really a RB, just not a very good one (in the traditional sense). I think he's really a pro third-down back. That's a small role, but he has a combination of traits that would make him very functional in that role. Think of guys like Larry Centers, Kevin Faulk, and Theo Reddick. Not true RBs but very useful offensive players.

I'm not saying he is those guys. Centers was a better blocker, Faulk a better runner, and Reddick a better receiver. But he possesses the same type of combination of skills as those guys.

He could be a situational FB, a situational H-Back, and a shotgun RB. He can pass block, he can run screens and draws, and he can run routes out of the backfield. If you view that draft pick as a waste of resources then you pass on him. But I think he could be a really valuable chess piece at that position. Think of the way NE interchangeably uses RBs based on skill set and situation. He could be really useful to a team that has a creative mix of talent at the RB position.

Spot on. Like I said, if OB continues to run the offense like he did when Watson was behind center Samuels could really be a weapon. NE is exactly who I was thinking of when I said creative play calling. I bet that’s where he ends up.

Isn't this Ervin's roll?

Does Ervin really have a role? 5 rushes and 11 catches in two seasons?

I didn't even advocate drafting Samuels. Just giving my take on what type of player I think he'll be at the next level.

I think this was the roll they had in mind for Ervin when they selected him. I think his health has been the root problem since he joined the Texans.

Seems like a lot of offensive players haven’t worked out as envisioned under OB.

Crazy but it seems the defense gets their players into the right place eventually...hope KJax finally becomes a FS sooner rather than later. O'Brien and the offensive coaches, have missed pretty steadily for the past 4 years in getting their players and scheme in harmony. Is this finally going to be the season that they get everything in place....we can only hope.

maybe I’m biased because I played on the same high school team as him but I’m all for getting him! One of the nicest and most talented people you’ll ever meet.
