2018 FA OT Seantrel Henderson 1 year 4 million

Really liked Henderson as a prospect. Big athletic guy.

Hopefully his health issues and 'pain management' don't limit his availability.

Feel like he's good value on a one year prove it deal.

He might. Henderson was a pretty good RT as a rookie. Maybe he can get back to that?

yes, he has elite physical attributes that suggest he could play LT even. just so much missed time and unknown influence of a serious medical malady

If he hits, the narrative will now be "see if the Texans would have been signing all these guys all along..."

I'm rooting for Henderson, because he's the key to the OL this season.

And yes, they should've been signing/drafting these guys all along. It wouldn't upset me if rd 3 went like this. Harrison/Hill/Richardson. After using the rest of the 50 mil on Suh/Gaines etc.....

Would you trade Seattle's picks back to them for Earl Thomas and the Texans 5th? I would. Then sign Suh/Gaines.

With the front 7 and adding Thomas/Colvin/Gaines and moving KJax to S would make for a really fast defense.

Think of this

Suh/Reader/Watt

Mercilus/McKinney/Cunningham/Clowney

Gaines/Colvin/KJo/Hill

SAFETIES; Thomas/KJax/Hal/Pleasant/Moore.

That's a championship defense and a SB contender if Watson can stay healthy.

Thanks for your dream team and wish list, but I stop designing my own and commenting on other posters' "never going to happen" player/transaction listing and depth charts several years ago. Helped me stop confusing what I like to happen with what should happen with what actually happened.

anyway, my original comment was specifically concerning players with "drug" other types of "troubled" backgrounds.

It could happen, the McNair's gotta have the vision and spend the $$$$. The cap space is there. I hope Henderson signing is a sign that McNair is changing his stance on pot users

Such stances only existed in your head to begin with.

Cleanest team in the NFL.

I believe I read that CnnnD explained that his use was under a physician's order/prescription. I also agree that under the circumstances, this would be grounds to sue the NFL and a medical exception made.

CnnnD, how about reposting your comments to this thread.

Hey maybe McNair could underwrite the legal costs to contest the leagues policy against Hendersons doctor recommened marijuana treatment for his malady ? The league office is in NYC, so we are talking a New York venue, right ? Very high-profile (no pun intended) so the case could also serve to get some positive PR with the leagues union membership who would probably be wildly supportive of any effort to reduce restrictions on pot consumption.

Does McNair seem like this kind of guy to you?

When I dug a little deeper, I found a pattern in college that is very disturbing to me. His first excuse was smoking for the pain following a back injury/surgery.........each time, he sited some sort of medical reason. This is such a strong and continual pattern that I don't know that unless there is a major change on his part or on the part of the NFL we won't see him soon suspended for a full season.

Timeline: The rise and fall of Seantrel Henderson, former blue-chip recruit

One of college football's biggest can't-miss prospects might end up going undrafted due to making the same kind of mistake over and over.

During his prep career at Cretin-Derham Hall in Minneapolis, Seantrel Henderson ranked among the top college football prospects in the country. And even after a largely pedestrian career at Miami and a number of marijuana suspensions, the 6'7, 331-pounder was still projected to be drafted in the middle rounds of this year's NFL Draft, "as long as he doesn't fail the Combine's drug test."

Welp .........................................MUST READ THE REST OF THE STORY...........................................................

And on Monday, with Adam Schefter's report that Henderson had failed the drug test at the NFL Combineessentially an "intelligence test," since you know you're going to be tested — Henderson's future is in trouble again.

This could wind up being THE major acquisition of this FA and meet our biggest Online need. I must say I am really pulling for the kid as I suffer from major pain issues and I don't know how I could get along without my pain meds. It is my understanding that Chrones disease is really hard to deal with and very painful. Fairly cheap bet for what may be a major return.

Yup ... I'm hoping that his hurdles have made him realize nothing is guaranteed no matter how much talent you have . Sitting in bed thinking you may have to wear a bag the rest of your life and being ashamed to be seen with it and certainly can't play football with it will change your viewpoint .

The upswing is he is immensely talented and could have a long run at OT .

Significant in more ways than one, in that Gaine should be familiar with Henderson from his time in Buffalo..
BG is putting his faith in someone he has gotten to know personally..
If Henderson were to get popped again and suspended, would this call in to question BG's judgement abilities?

Not at all (at least if it happens this year) , its a 1 year contract ..... all he has to lose is the $4m cap hit and if the guy turns into a football player .... great.

Now if he plays well this year and ends up with a multiyear deal ..... then screws up you have to look at the contract , does it have protection against this scenario ?? If not , how damaging is it ?!?

It would be quite irresponsible if Henderson's contract now or later did not include a clause regarding being again suspended for marijuana use. Although I am very sympathetic to his medical condition, unfortunately, from what I've been able to ascertain, his marijuana smoking has gone way back, far more back than his Crohn's diagnosis in 2015. He was handed suspensions for marijuana use every year while at USC except for his 2010 freshman redshirt year. It wasn't until 2015 that he said that he didn't just fall back into his old "recreational use"..........that he started using again when a doctor first told him that it would be therapeutic for the pain of Crohn's. No matter what the truth is, he remains a high risk for continued used and suspension. Any smart team will have to consider protecting themselves from a potential 1 year suspension for any further infraction.

But according to many in TT, we need to be willing to take these type of gambles more often... and stop the “choir boy only” mantra we seem to have.

He's the only OT the Texans have signed
Besides him there's only second-year guy Julian Davenport and Jeff Allen who played some LT for us at the end of last year.
So we aren't done with FA yet but there wasn't much in the beginning of this FA for OTs and now there's even less remaining so Gain is going to
earn his keep in the Draft but there's still the outside chance of some kind of trade, admittedly a real long-shot.
I would expect Gain to draft at least a couple OTs and then bring several other undrafted FA rookie tackles.

Kelemente also played some LT last year

Not much to be optimistic about after watching this film. I don't know which is worse -- his hands, his feet or his reaction time/anticipation. This dude is s l o w -- a decent speed edge rusher is going to eat his lunch. I would draft RT before LT after looking at this guy.

Agreed. Guessing the team is banking on him having fixed a lot of these issues since 2015 when he last played serious football. But the problem is he hasn’t played or practiced much due to medical issues and suspensions so how much more improved could he be?

Really hope whoever the team adds at OT has a mean streak. Henderson plays way too nice. Classic looks like Tarzan plays like Jane from the clips in that article.

Cam Fleming got a similar contract.

But congrats to O'Brien and Gaine for finding a worse tackle than Breno and Clark.

A detailed account of Henderson's journey ending with the Texans (much is a repeat of the detailed article I posted in this thread when he was picked). Henderson used marijuana way before his Crohn's diagnosis. But, as he was actually told he would never be able to play football again, he saw no reason that he should not continue to smoke for pain control. CBD (canabadiol) which could have been a reasonable alternative does not produce the TCH high, but unfortunately is considered a "chemically related drug, and is still a banned substance in the NFL. At this point, it appears that Henderson is through with marijuana............at least until it is legalized by the NFL.

Battling Crohn's disease, Seantrel Henderson gets fresh start with Texans
