WolverineFan Pre-Combine Mock (AFC South)

WolverineFan

Hall of Fame
My mock draft for the AFC South. These are the picks I would make for each team, not the picks that I think each team will make.

No trades since it's impossible to predict although I do expect Indy to trade back from #3 and wouldn't be surprised to see Texans package picks to move up for an OT.

COLTS
1 (#3) Bradley Chubb - EDGE, NC State
2 (#36) Ronald Jones II - RB, USC
3 (#67) Josey Jewell - ILB, Iowa
4 (#104) Jamarco Jones - OT, Ohio State
5 (#140) Taron Johnson - CB, Weber State
6 (#178) Richie James - WR, Middle Tennessee
7 (#211) Maea Teuhema - OG, SE Louisiana

JAGUARS
1 (#29) Orlando Brown - OT, Oklahoma
2 (#61) DaeShon Hamilton - WR, Penn State
3 (#93) Ian Thomas - TE, Indiana

6 (#203) Jamarcus King - CB, South Carolina
7 (#230) Kenny Young - LB, UCLA
7 (#247) Andrew Ankrah - EDGE, James Madison

TITANS
1 (#25) Isaiah Wynn - OG, Georgia
2 (#57) Tim Settle - DT, Virginia Tech
3 (#89) Isaac Yiadom - CB, Boston College

3 (#80) Darius Phillips - CB, Western Michigan
3 (#98) Dalton Schultz - TE, Stanford
4 (#103) Trayvon Henderson - S, Hawaii
6 (#177) Marcell Frazier - EDGE, Missouri
6 (#211) Colby Gossett - OG, Appalachian State
6 (#214) Lavon Coleman - RB, Washington
7 (#222) Eddy Wilson - DT, Purdue

You went right down the board prioritizing need per position with best available who fit organization. Great Work!

We are so lucky to have guys like y'all on the MB.

People who take the time, do the research and have an informed opinion. I like that we can go back and forth on prospects and even if we disagree all opinions are respected, unlike other MB's.

I just wanted to say thanks and let y'all know how much I enjoy this forum.

BTW, What do y'all think of Kemoko Turay

I don't know enough about Turay to give an honest opinion but NFLDraftScout.com has him rated the 7th best OLB and he is projected to go somewhere between the 2nd and 3rd rounds. Of course that could change after the Combine and his Pro Day. There are some injury concerns with his shoulders that caused him to miss a lot of time in 2015 and 2016 so that could be a red flag. Don't know if he will be available for the Texans in the 3rd round but even if he was I'm not sure they would go after an OLB/DE using their 1st or 2nd pick with all the other holes to fill. Now, if they get enough of those holes filled in FA, then there is a possibility they could go after someone like Turay.

Turay is a late bloomer who didn't start full time at Rutgers until his Senior season (ala Clay Matthews III). He was a HS track star that didn't fully commit to football until his Senior year. Turay should rip up the combine and probably has his best football ahead of him. Likely only a situational rusher and special teamer early on in the NFL.

Pure pass rusher at this point but very raw even in that department. Injury concerns plus concerns holding up against the run. Being a Michigan fan I've seen some Rutgers games over the years because they're in the B1G and he never jumped off the screen at me. I get a little bit of a Barkevious Mingo vibe from him. Great athlete but extremely one dimensional game.

Check out OLB- Justin Lawler of SMU. I think he's a sleeper who could be a great addition in RD6 or RD7. He's 6-4 @ 265 lbs but possesses quickness for his size. I'd like to see what carrying 255 lbs would do for his quickness.

If you are getting such raves for your mock from guys like BL & SteelB then I know you are on top of you game because those two guys really know college talent coming into
this years Draft.
I'm too ignorant about college players to knowledgeably critique your mock but one suggestion if I may which is if you do another then include a trade of the Texans moving up into the second round for their top pick which would bundle a '19 second round pick & a'18 third rounder.
But great mock WolerineFan !

WF/- Curious of your 2nd round OT prospects, worth targeting in this draft if Texans strike out via FA?

I'd be shocked if Lawler lasted that long. He's going very under the radar in draft media but has a lot of fans in the scouting community. Has great production and an overall game. Was the highest rated DE by PFF last year. He should do well at the Combine and that will elevate his stock in media eyes.

Chukwuma Orakafor, Western Michigan
Tyrell Crosby, Oregon
Geron Christian, Louisville

Martinas Rankin (Mississippi State) also but there's a lot of talk about him moving inside. I really like Will Richardson (NC State) but with his off field issues there is zero chance McNair signs off on that.

Lawler was a combine snub. He’ll have to prove them wrong at his Pro Day.

Richardson just has a couple of DWI's. It's not like he has DV in his past. This is where I hope the Texans change the way they acquire players. If it were me I would pick Richardson and Harrison in the 3rd rd if available. One will probably bust, but the other will be a longtime starter at OT. If both stay out of trouble you probably have bookend OT's for the next decade. Very little risk.

BTW, I like Richardson slightly better than Harrison. Richardson is the smarter of the 2 players.

Don't think for a second that not having a RD5 pick wont hurt during this draft. It's deep in positions of need and there's going to be some guys worthy of higher picks but are going to fall through he cracks....I just think RD5 is the bonus RD to find those type of players. I would love to have Lawler but if he doesn't make it to RD6, unfortunately RD4 may be too early or maybe not....Pro Day could be the difference maker in using a RD4 pick. I could justify moving back in RD4 if it didn't involve losing more than 8 spots but included obtaining a solid early to mid RD5 in return....maybe even another RD6 or 7.

I think at least one of these guys make it to #68. Probably Christian since he’s an underclassman and not ready to immediately step in.

Certainly possible as he is pretty raw although I think Christian will impress in the athletic drills this week and improve his stock.

tape of game film doesn’t lie. He’s gonna be hell of NFL tackle, teams will write contract accordingly with inclusions from weight control, games played and reps taken to pfe grades if they please.
