This is being portrayed as O'Brien posing an ultimatum to McNair. Whether O'Brien is the Texans coach of the future or not, this is useful. I can envision no other scenario that would unseat Rick Smith.

But, but, I thought so many here are convinced that there was never any true friction between O'Brien and Smith.............that they were just made up stories.
 
Every single year there are reports that O'Brien is unhappy and that the front office will get shaken up.

And nothing happens.

Only godsey has been fired.

Look I want them both gone but I sure don't want OB making all the draft decisions either. I think he's terrible at evaluating talent.

Rick usually hits on rounds 1-2 (Although Kevin Johnson sucks) but he's not good in the later rounds. That's where a GM should make his money, in my opinion.

The Bergstrom and Allen signings were absolutely awful. Chris Clark? He blows too.

I want to keep Bill O'Brien in 2018 (let him coach out his contract), but if the New York Giants are desperate enough to offer a 4th round pick as compensation would you consider trading O'Brien?

Too many unknowns to predict what McNair would do. He's unusually loyal to Smith, but he's also sensitive about his image around the league (as many owners are). Right now, there's a league consensus (whether right or wrong) that O'Brien is a great coach and losing him would reflect poorly on the organization. Considering all of O'Brien's flaws and bad decisions, it would be better for him to remain HC and pry loose Smith's influence over the McNairs. But if Smith survives this, there is no scenario that would expel him short of consecutive draft class busts.

speculation:
So essentially, O'Brien might have stayed at a job for several years where he did not get along perfectly with everyone, complained non-publically, but because it was in his best self-interest(money, career status, family, commitment, in some combo) put up with being the outsider and along with a kissass boss.

Never happens in the non-sports world :ok:

I thought OBrien would be the best coach available and would instantly have multiple offers?
 
Out of curiosity. Has any former Belichick assistant coach gotten a contract extension as an NFL HC. How many of them actually finished their first HC contract?

I don’t think the world of BoB but he is not the biggest problem with this team. Rick Smiths overall ineptitude is the biggest problem and he shouldn’t be a GM of a football team.

Seems to me he wants out but doesnt have the balls to say it, just like his coaching style, no balls.
 
O’Brien has changed his tone since saying he wasn’t going to quit on the Texans. Part of it is knowing he is one press conference away from not talking to media until the Combine. Less info the better at this point.

The more I read the quotes the more I'm thinking he wants out but doesn't want to quit and be labeled a "quitter"....I'm sick of this spineless douche....
 
He leaked a bunch of crap about how he'd be the #1 coach on the market to scare McNair into giving him more power.

It didn't work the last 3 years.

Let's see about this time.
 
Here is the difference between a great coach (Andy Reid) and OB. Mahomes is making his first start, they came out and have thrown 4 times in a row and counting....it was third and 10 and they threw again at their own 14, he made a great throw for the first down....OB is a coward play caller.

Chiefs just scored on their opening drive. Nice run by Hunt
 
Some of You guys are idiots...what we’re seeing and hearing from BoB these last few weeks is frustration and the culmination of a very bad season. Frustration with losing...frustration with injuries to his team. Frustration with answering the same damn questions from the media about his job...

All this while the person who likely leaked alot of this stuff and the source of all his discontent with this organization, largely gets to escape it all.

I’d be angry if I was swept by the Colts who were also missing their star qb. BOB is lucky to have a job.
