Something Witty !
Yep,
And to think some here wanted the 1st pick in the draft to be Blake Bortles.
I wanted Greg Robinson which shows my vision and wisdom because they can still get him .

The real question is, has he quieted the "We should've drafted Mack" critics?
Interested in seeing how Lamar Houston, Watkins, Cole and Covington add to mix.It would be better for us if we could mix it up... where Clowney, Watt, & Mercilus can pick their spots & opposing teams don't know which will wreck havoc on a given play.

Jadeveon Clowney hunkered down at the line of scrimmage, a man determined to stonewall Arizona Cardinals veteran running back Adrian Peterson one more time.
In another disruptive display during a season filled with them, the Texans' Pro Bowl pass rusher busted into the Cardinals' backfield as he and rookie linebacker Zach Cunningham swarmed Peterson for a 1-yard loss on a clutch fourth-quarter tackle.
The turnover on downs after the ill-fated 4th-and-1 call was one of the key plays of a 31-21 victory Sunday during which Peterson was bottled up. The former NFL Most Valuable Player was limited to just 26 rushing yards on 14 carries. Clowney thoroughly dominated with five tackles, three for losses, two sacks and three quarterback hits.
The Texans' hybrid outside linebacker-defensive end was practically unblockable, especially on this pivotal fourth-down sequence midway through the fourth quarter as Cardinals coach Bruce Arians made a decision to go for it that he later regretted.
"I wasn't surprised," Clowney said. "It was a decision they needed to make that first down. The play itself, they got me early in the game. On the first play of the game, I peeked my head inside and (Peterson) bounced outside on me. I said I wasn't going to do that anymore in the game.
Clowney established a new career high with eight sacks after finishing with six sacks last season when he was named to the Pro Bowl for the first time.
"Clowney, of course, was just phenomenal," Texans owner Bob McNair said. "Oh, he is something. On every play, if he isn't making the tackle or knocking the ball down or sacking, he's making the quarterback move around or redirect. He's stopping the running play. He's just hard to defend."
Clowney has 15 tackles for losses, one less than he recorded all of last season and now has 41 for his career to pass linebacker Brian Cushing for the fourth-most in franchise history.

Bob McNair, Texans owner, says Clowney was phenomenal ? Of course he was phenomenal, and that's because he's JD Freakin Clowney.
BTW, another one of Rick Smiths Draft picks.
This guy is a bad ass!
I think he doesn't get as much credit because we've been spoiled with Watt. He's not at the level of peak Watt... but honestly, who is? He was trending to be the best defensive player of all-time. That shouldn't take away from what Clowney is doing right now.
The real question is, has he quieted the "We should've drafted Mack" critics?
Unless you were blindfolded or fast asleep, you saw that guy at NRG yesterday.I guess we will never see the South Carolina version of Clowney...
It will be interesting on who to keep. Watt owns the keys to this city for all the off field stuff he does. Hard to imagine the Texans releasing him when they should. Can't pay both and a Clowney 100M deal is looking like more the possibility. Gonna have to franchise him a year or two.
might be a good problem to have
If Watt comes back strong, then some very good trade potential could be there
Salary cap will be an issue regardless
I've been waiting for JJ to come back strong for 2 years now. That ship may be getting ready to sail.
I'm not advocating to do it because he's done enough for the franchise that he deserves all the time he needs, but I'm betting that when it's all said and done we'll look back and say we should have cut our losses at this point.I hate to say it (because it's JJ), but completely agree with you. I don't think he comes back near the same player. Back and knee injuries at that position will continue to haunt him with his style of play.
Clowney has been a beast this season. Who knows how long his knees will hold out, but I say use his best years in a Texans uniform even if you have to tag him to do it.
What I saw on the play he went down on was him losing out due to his loss of core stability and sustaining further injury trying to overcompensate.
otisbean. it hard for me to tell for sure, but from what I can see, when he awkwardly fell, his knee would have had all of its weight/impact placed on the medial condyle, as the lower leg was torqued medially. As his fracture had to be an inferior lateral plateau fracture(see my explanation of why (revealed by the location of the surgical scar) in the Injury Thread), the injury most likely would have occurred when he was attempting to get back up from the trip, when his lower leg was out to the side in relationship to his upper leg, thus placing all of his torque/weight on the lateral condyle where the fracture occurred. At that point in time, he was under no resistance by a defensive lineman. Successfully recovering from the trip would have required his gluteus maximus (hip rotation) and other core muscles to bring his lower extremity back into proper alignment with more equal distribution of weight on the plateau. Whether the core was a major contribution or not toward his injury is hard to definitely determine, but I feel it likely contributed to his injury. I would welcome any further comment. No offense but you saw incorrectly. Here’s a link, you have to watch until the end, that shows the play. Watt and Scarlett were running a stunt and it looks like BS kicked his foot, he tripped and stuck his leg out and he landed really awkwardly. This has nothing to do with core strength. When you lose your balance while battling another 300lber stuff like this can happen. This play was bad luck. Could’ve happened even if he had never injured his back. He may never be the old JJ but his back wasn’t the cause of this play.

You're not imaging things. Of course, Watt was focusing his efforts in strengthening his core. Once you have 2 microdiscectomies, you have lost volume in the disc bringing the adjacent vertebral segments closer together leaving this area predisposed to injury with twisting or compressive actions when bending or being bent back, especially against resistance. The very nature of the injury and surgeries empirically limit some type of core-strengthening exercises and the amount of weights that can be used for core exercises. Watt will always be compromised in his core to some extent, despite his best efforts. Not only that, but with his compromised disc structure/function, it takes only one play.........a twist, a fall, a hard landing to lead to an injury necessitating formal back surgery. But Doc I thought that's what JJ spent a lot of his time doing this past off season was strengthening his core muscles. At least I thought I remembered reading somewhere (Maybe on this board.) that that's what they were working on to strengthen after his 2nd back surgery. Didn't he say something about changing his workouts to do this or am I just imagining things?
His season on season improvement at this point in his career is incredible. If his knee somehow holds out he's on course to become a HOF candidate with this trajectory and is proving exactly why the Texans spent 1.1 on him.Came across this on reddit; clips of Clowney's athleticism during the 49ers game.

We're very lucky that weve got the cap space we do because we're going to be able to tag him a twice after his 5th year option, and it's the best thing to do because of concerns over his longevity.
It's hard to have any hope of Watt coming back strong but if he does weve got the best attack in the league, especially with Merci across from him. Just a shame him and JJ haven't ever been truly healthy at the same time.
i agree completely. Although, i can see why a tag would be used once doing it twice would basically be spitting in his face. He has earned the right to be paid for stepping up for Watt and being the new force on the DlineNot putting in an injury de-escalator clause in any contract offered to JDC would be beyond a travesty. Pay the man what he's worth but protect the team as well.
I expect our negotiations to start with him this offseason. Hopefully he continues to grow. This man is a rare talent even by NFL standards.

Nobody has earned the right to blind optimism. Sign him to possibly overpaid serial 2-3 year deals. Either that or if he absolutely insists on longer term, use roster bonuses and severe de-escalator clauses. Acting as if he will be healthy 5-7 years at any point is folly. If we won't go with that franchise him twice, try again and then say bye.
Right on that & congrats to both him & D-Hop for mking it after the Texans have had such a miserable year where fan support tends to thinner vs a stron yar for the team.Congrats to Clowney for making consecutive ProBowls as he heads into his contract year. Someone is going to pay him big money.
Even adding JJ & Mercilus back to the current D, thing is it's probably only the second best D in the AFC South.CLOWNEY is a bad man. He has is all going for him. I can only hope this team puts other pieces in place turn this defense back into a force.

Yeah, the Jags added a nasty front seven to their shut-down 4. Texans on the other hand, have a very nasty front seven when healthy but don't even possess one shut-down DB.
And adding those guys won’t fix the disastrous secondary.Even adding JJ & Mercilus back to the current D, thing is it's probably only the second best D in the AFC South.
They will make the secondary look better by pressuring the QB into getting rid of the ball sooner just like secondaries make pass rushers look better by making them hold the ball longer and getting coverage sacks. And adding those guys won’t fix the disastrous secondary.

Better as in, instead of comically bad to just awful?
