Wow, this guy was so over hyped, remember the multiple 1sts NE wanted? The fact he goes just for a second albeit most likely high second shows they don't see him as a higher end franchise guy and that if they franchised him they could do better with a trade in the off season

SF got a good QB. I’m not saying he’s the next Brady but garrapolo can play and I think he’ll be a good QB for them.
The Pats had no choice. Either franchise tag your backup for big money or trade him. Or lose him to FA.
They had a choice franchise him, basically they didn't think they would do better in the offseason, so essentially he was never getting offers of first round picks like every body was suggesting

Yup, with the deadline the Pats were up against it. It was get something now or lose him for nothing. If BB really thought he was 'all that and a bag of chips' they would never have let it get to this point. BB was sure he would get multiple 1's but it didn't work.Hard to say. A team may very well have offered a 1st round pick knowing he's not a FA when the season is over, i.e. last off season.
Next offseason is a totally different story. Teams know he has not & most likely will not sign with New England. Why give them a 5th round pick, much less a 1st. That the 49ers are 0fer 7 right now, the Pats cut their losses & deal him for a 2nd.
I think this is a good trade for everyone involved. Garoppolo and Little Shanny should be peas and carrots.
But I think you're right that the rumors of last off-season have been debunked. Well that or Belichick was a bonehead.
The 49ers released Brian Hoyer? Surely the Patriots will sign him. He's played there before. Already knows the system well: From Houston and New England.Soooo... Belichick has only ONE QB on his roster right now...?
well their Bye week is coming up so Mr. Personality has two weeks to sign a backup.

You're talking out of your ass. The Browns were offering one of their first rounders this off season and other assets. Belicheck chose to hold onto him in case an early injury plagued Brady, and now their team is banged up all over the place with injury prone players where they need a lot of draft picks. Jimmy was going to be gone into FA or they were going to have to let go of Brady. This obviously means that they chose to keep Brady at 40/41 , but it says nothing about Jimmy being over hyped. The fact that Belicheck kept him in an off season where they desperately needed draft picks and could have had a 1st round pick plus of compensation for him and they passed shows what they thought of him. His play on the field has been excellent as well.
Him and Shane are going to build a dynamic offense once they get a few weapons for him.
The Browns could have still jumped in and offered more than the 49ers did. I'm shocked they didn't with all that draft ammo they have from the Texans. They've got multiple first and second-rounders. And I doubt they're going to draft a good quarterback. They already passed on Watson and Wentz. They'll end up with another dud like Kizer, Manziel or the several other bums they drafted in recent years.
He'll play at least five more years. That would put him at 45 years old. I'm not sure how much longer he can play after that. You would think he'll start to show some great decline in his game by then. Father time is undefeated. You can't escape aging. So Brady the GOAT says he wants to play 10 more years huh............ Oldest QB to win a SB. 60 years old! you heard it here first!
And this board will come down on you like a ton of bricks if it turns out to be wrong. So Brady the GOAT says he wants to play 10 more years huh............ Oldest QB to win a SB. 60 years old! you heard it here first!
I disagree if he wasn't traded because he was insurance towards a Brady injury it makes no sense to trade him mid season and be completely vulnerable to an injury, while mind you losing out on major compensation.
What makes far more sense is that there was never a team willing to give that kind of load of picks for him. Especially when juxtaposed against the analytics driven front offense of the Browns who highly value picks, they didn't see him anywhere near as valuable as people suggest, it was probably all purposely leaked rumors to drive up his price.

I don't care what you want to agree or disagree with. I pay attention to Boston talk radio regularly and I'm telling you what they could have had back in the off season, and anyone paying attention at the time knew it as it was reported. Sheftner was on top of that story the entire time. They wanted both QB's bad. They had to decide. If you're going to act like Jimmy wasn't a hot commodity to NE because he couldn't take Brady's job, then I really don't care what you have to say at all, because that's one of the most ridiculous things ever.
I'm definitely getting a Roger Clemens/Barry Bonds type of vibe here, he's improved his passer rating 4 years in a row, while his passer rating had declined the previous 4 years. Father Time isn't playing on a level playing field if you ask me.He'll play at least five more years. That would put him at 45 years old. I'm not sure how much longer he can play after that. McCarron has the superior track record.
I heard the Bengals got the paper work in 5 minutes before the deadline but the Browns got it in 35 seconds later. The Browns were late because their front office guys were celebrating immediately after they agreed to acquire McCarron. Why didn't they send in the paperwork on time, and then celebrate after?Story is that the Browns had a deal in place to get McCarron from Cincy, but since they couldn't get the paper work in in time, it didn't happen.
OK, so you are saying that Belichick is a complete dumbass. He could have had Deshaun Watson plus more for JG, instead he takes a 2nd rounder next year. He wouldn't need JG for Brady insurance this year, he would have had Watson. All year, instead of JG for half a year.I don't care what you want to agree or disagree with. So according to our #1 Patriots fan, Belichick is a terrible GM.
Wasn't he supposed to be better than Watson?Somebody here is going to be very upset that the Beathard experiment ended so quickly.

Can you imagine if Garoppolo was in his fourth season with the Texans under O'Brien?
I should hate the Patriots for making that move, but I don't. Texans FO should have had more snap and listened to the new head coach at the time.
I'd really like to know how things went down that draft room some day.

steelb, I still love the fact we have Deshaun Watson as our franchise quarterback. I'd take a healthy Deshaun over Jimmy G any day of the week. So I'm not terribly concerned over which quarterbacks we passed on during that draft. Where are the Derek Carr fan boys? We should have drafted him too, right?

Just sucks that Deshaun tore his ACL and his historic, record-breaking rookie season was cut short in 2017. If he's strong and ready to go by training camp he should have a monster second season in 2018.
We have a young superstar, franchise quarterback...
Let's just pray for good health moving forward.
The Texans could be playing in the AFC Championship Game next year, possibly Super Bowl, if we can keep Deshaun Watson, J.J. Watt and Whitney Mercilus healthy. I don't think people really understand just how good Watson is. He had us in position to beat the Patriots and Seahawks on the road almost single-handily. Before O'Brien's idiotic playcalling on third and short, needing a first-down to ice the game.I hate to break it to you but the Texans wont be SB contenders for the next 5 yrs unless changes are made at the top.
