2017 IN-SEASON PLAYER TRANSACTIONS

Whoa, pal; I've got to support Texansphan here. We can't allow liberals and left wing racists to dictate the playing field. "Niggles" was obviously used with its original definition in mind. An off beat word but perfectly acceptable.
Thanks dude - I just now got what the kerfuffle was about! I refrained from commenting before as I had no idea what was the cause of the angst, so decided discretion was the better part of valour.
A faux pas, but a perfectly innocent one as you so accurately pointed out.

Bowman has come back commendably in 2015 from a terrible left ACL/MCL rupture which cost him the entire 2014 season. He then went on to play 3 games in 2016 before suffering an left Achilles rupture from which he has come back this year commendably. However, the question is for how long. After Bowman's 2015 impressive return, the 49ers with 3 full years remaining on his old contract, extended him for 4 more years. It didn't work out so well as he suffered his Achilles rupture shortly thereafter. I doubt serious that Bowman will go on the cheap. Again, if you are going to consider signing him, after 2 major season-ending injuries on one side, how much are you willing to gamble that he will go for any significant time without another major lower limb injury...........in that both ACL and Achilles ruptures leave a player at high risk for sustaining both of these injuries on the contralateral (or same) side?

Not very long, but I think with our other replacements + our current injuries, I think Bowman might be good for depth's/creativity's sake if anything. Maybe I'm just lured by his name and past performance.

I don't know how the contracts work though.

I think the reply was meant in jest...at least that's how I took it :)

Let it be known I was just joking, I don't like the sarcasm tag because it ruins the joke sometimes

The Texans also worked out wide receivers DeMarcus Ayers, Montay Crockett and Tevaun Smith, tight ends Jason Croom, Ryan Malleck and Cole Wick and quarterback Taylor Heinicke.

The Chronicle wrote a build up piece this morning on the top work out player of the week, De Marcus Ayers. It's not unexpected that there was no mention of the bilateral "sports hernia" surgeries he underwent this past Feb.

Per Aaron Wilson:

The Texans worked out former New England Patriots and Tennessee Titans linebacker Akeem Ayers, according to a league source not authorized to speak publicly.

Ayers is a former Titans second-round pick from UCLA. Ayers has 15.5 career sacks.

They also worked out former Miami Dolphins linebacker Jelani Jenkins, former Tampa Bay Buccaneers defensive end Sterling Bailey, former Georgia Tech defensive lineman Patrick Gamble, defensive tackle Mike Purcell and former Minnesota Vikings defensive tackle Jarrod "Chunky" Clements.

Texans sign DT Chunky Clements
By Aaron Wilson, Houston Chronicle
October 24, 2017

The Texans have signed former Minnesota Vikings defensive tackle Jarrod "Chunky" Clements to the practice squad, according to a league source not authorized to speak publicly.

Clements has been working out regularly and gotten into better shape in recent weeks, per a source.

Clements (6-2, 295 pounds) went undrafted out of the University of Illinois.

A native of Dayton, Ohio, Clements had 99 tackles, 25 1/2 for losses, six sacks and four forced fumbles in college.

********************************************************************************************************************

Note that the Texans have again failed to release important background on their new acquisition. The Texans have signed Jarrod "Chunky" Clements to the PS. He was described as a "penetrating three-technique tackle on the next level with some moldable pass-rush traits" by Lance Zierlein. He had hopes of being a mid-round draft pick until he suffered a Lisfranc fracture that required surgery late last season. Clements played at Illinois and he was out for six months, and missed the NFL combine and all of spring drills. He kept in touch with the Vikings, and they brought him in when he was "healthy." He signed with the Vikings shortly before the start of training camp as an undrafted free agent. He was considered in relatively good shape with more work to be done (apparently, besides this, he has had some weight issues throughout his life.....got his nickname as he was a hefty baby), but the Vikings DL was loaded and Clements was waived Sept 1.

What team, or business for that matter, discloses all the warts in a signing announcement?
We're talking about a huge recent "wart".......a Lisfranc in a big man. "Articles" by Sports Reporters are not presenting business releases. They are writing to inform fans. With all due respect, there is no point in prolonging a discussion that is not going to change either of our minds. I have my opinion, you have yours. Others may feel the same as you. I feel that when a reporter reports, they should present at least the most pertinent facts. In Clements' case, his commendable stats were important enough to include, but with no explanation for why he ended up an undrafted FA.

The Texans have now signed veteran linebacker Jelani Jenkins. The beginning of last season, he underwent a "minor" knee scope. He ended up on the 2016 Injury Reports for his knee essentially throughout the season, and missed 7 games (5 of the last 7 games) while having his worst overall career year last year. He was cut Sept 2 by the Raiders, signed by the Bills Sept 12 and cut by the Bills Sept 19.

I'm beginning to wonder if there is anyone out there un-signed and un-pre-injured that's actually worth a flip
:)

That last move essentially leaves us with only 3 potentially viable options at OT...............and only 2 "healthy" ones...........don't even try to bring up Davenport.

So Davenport is the only guy available Sunday if Brown or Giacomini need relief.

It is

They are a team full of terrible human beings. But Seahawks ownership has proven they will do whatever it takes to win a SB.

Are you saying we'd win a Super Bowl if we'd have kept Duane Brown?

Anywho, we get a 2018 5th, 2019 2nd, & CB Jeremy Lane.

Dang, am I getting the scoop. The Chronicle this morning is reporting Lane failed his physical. We are now getting a third in the 2018 draft.

So, a 3rd in 2018; and a 2nd in 2019.

We give up a 5th in 2018.

(Edit) I see this has been posted in the DB thread.

Oh Boy! Oh Boy! OH Boy!....................We have Kendall Lamm Back!..............he's taken Covington's spot................I'm so excited..........:shots:

Aaron Wilson reports that yesterday, the Texans worked out cornerback Sterling Moore, defensive tackles Brandon Thompson and Stefan Charles, cornerbacks Cody Riggs and Sojourn Shelton, and wide receiiver DeAndrew White.

Seems like the Texans may be focusing in on Moore. He has played for the New England Patriots, Dallas Cowboys, Oakland Raiders, Tampa Bay Buccaneers, Buffalo Bills and New Orleans Saints.

What has been left out of this article is that Moore sustained a pec injury this past mid Sep and tried to come back week 2, re-injured his pec in that game and has not played since. Then just last week after he was released by the Saints, he underwent some "abdominal surgery" purported to be minor. Last year, he also appeared on the Injury Reports for "abdomen."

Since I am actually hammered, I would love to see Doc Jean posting after taking a table full of shots. :doot:

Any chance we see a different Lamm after he got a good look at his potential professional life after football?

They paid significant value for DB which is what a second & third round pick are.

I would give up a 2nd/3rd for a all pro LT next yr.

If Joe Thomas or Joe Staley become available next yr I find a way to trade for one of these guys.

I'm just playing. Sort of.

I don't get why everyone's so happy that we've swapped an all-pro at one of the most important positions in an area we have zero depth for a bag of magic beans.

All it would take is a couple of those magic beans to sprout a couple of 6-7 @ 315 lb future OT's for this deal to favor the Texans. A 2018 RD3 and 2019 RD2 might give RS a real chance at making this happen.

The Texans can't afford to let RS go to the Browns in regards to Joe Thomas...he'd enter and before they even told him what they wanted in return...he'd have his pants down, utter 2018 RD3, 2019 RD1 and RD2...then look back and let them know he brought his own lube this time.

I gotta say that I think that's crazy talk. I know the need is there and it's severe but those guys are at the end of the line just like Duane Brown is (actually I think they're both older than him) and the cost would be too much for too little in return. Thomas in particular is like a walking injury report and I read not long ago that he was going to decide after the season whether to retire. I can't imagine Staley is in a much different frame of mind.

It's time to look for the next great OT not see how much more of a beating other teams old great OT's can take. I'm sure the Brown's and 49er's are both trying to figure out what they're going to do when those guys are gone. Why trade picks to them to help them solve that problem while at the same time making it harder for us to solve ours?
