I'm going to be slightly pessimistic (at least I hope I am) and say 7-9 record

we're probably going to do better than that, but I want to keep my expectations low just in case...

in the last 5 year-ish, this is the year I feel the least confident about getting to the post-season

Somewhere in the range of 7-9 wins this season.

It's going to be a long season full of more mind numbing horrid press conferences where OB says pretty much the same thing in all of them. The offense will be average at best and the defense will shine at times, in other words the same ole same ole.

on a side note, possibly unrelated to this, I just realized that the best QB of the BO'B era is Fitzmagic with 95.something QBrating

and we've probably gotten worse every year after that...

2014: fitz (95.3)
2015: hoyer (91.4)
2016: Os (72.2)

and since math is not an opinion, this year we should expect a QB rating of 37.5

on the other hand, Os has the franchise record of win% for quarterbacks with more than 10 starts

This

7-9 and 9-7 if they're lucky and BOB coaches his butt off. I think besides QB the OL is the most important unit on the team and the neglect is going to rear its ugly head this yr.

If things go bad with back stabbing between the mgmt and BOB or injuries hit then I could see this as a 5-11, 6-10 team. This roster is lacking depth terribly bad.

5-11

Savage, Watson and our six running backs are on IR by the third game and Lechler is in protocol after being concussed while playing qb.

The godfather signs Kaepernick and the entire team sits on their arses during the anthem.

steelb proclaims his football acumen once again and Thorn goes shopping for fresh mangoes and more Manali West’s Nova OG.

Cak realizes his lifelong dream and leaves TT to become the lead moderator on the Cowboys message board.

TK takes a dive off the Rainbow Bridge and lives to argue another day.

Demolition crew hired to implode the dome mistakenly (or not) blow up NRG.

Obrien gets run out of town, RAC retires and Vrable becomes the Browns new head coach. The godfather moves into the McNairs guest cottage and prepares for next years draft starting with round three after hiring his cousin Lovie to be the new Texans coach.

McNair sings all the verses to the song Zippidy Do Dah What A Wonderful Day while counting his money.

Me? I spend much more time mowing (real) grass on game days or drinking my Seaport dark roast coffee while watching re-runs of NCIS on DishTV.

My grandfather used to drink that sludge called Seaport.

It could poor itself into a cup.

I imagine it was like liquid meth.

It turned me off of coffee, but I learned Folgers was more my style.

I have us winning: Jacksonville, Cincinnati, KC, Cleveland, Seattle, Rams, San Fran, Jacksonville. That's eight.

If we split with Tenn and Indy, that's nine and ten.

We then have the Pats, Arizona, Baltimore and Pittsburg. We manage to win #11 with a win from this group.

Brown has to get back to anchor the left side. My worry is the health of the RB's and WR's.

Might as well drink tea..:)

I guess its just a cajun thing. My parents and grandparents liked Seaport. I followed suit. Lots of cream and sugar.
Goes great with cush-cush. https://www.justapinch.com/recipes/breakfast/other-breakfast/cush-cush.html

I have a younger brother in Kansas that I mail Seaport to because he can't get it in Kansas.

Not too sure if it cooks the brain like meth, but it would explain a lot.

I took a deep breath and set my frustrations aside in regards to the OL and WR situation. The defense, like the past few years will certainly help keep the Texans relevant. What really pushed this team over the top? If the OL arrives and gels enough to allow Savage time to run this offense. I'm not as worried as I was initially in regards to the receivers but I'm going to put my faith in Savage that he can hit a multitude of receivers if Hopkins is double and triple teamed...hello TE's in helping make the difference. My biggest concern falls on the ST cover and blocking units...can they finally improve?

In my mind, the schedule isn't that daunting. I'm going to say that this team will find a way to add that extra win over last season, which means I'm leaning towards 10. That's my prediction and I'm sticking to it.

I keep looking at the schedule, for the past month, and I agree. 10 wins are there; and if we remain healthy on defense, you know who I mean, and we dominate, I see 11 or even 12 wins a possibility. It is not a doom and gloom schedule.

How 'bout steelb has a sit down & a beer with Ricky McNair, they become lifelong friends & Ricky all of a sudden is drafting all pros in rounds 3-6.

& I ain't taking a dive off the Rainbow bridge, even if I knew I'd live another day. Ain't happening.

Neglect- fail to care for properly

T%hat's a great description of what Ricky did this offseason. Particularly with the OL.

I kept hoping he had a plan.... Rickey and I don't agree on the definition of a plan

That's the number of QBs that will eventually end up wearing a Texans uniform this season.

I see you are just as confident in the OL as I am ....

The bottom line all depends on the QB play , the defense is good enough to keep them in every game , the question is if the offense is good enough to win them.

If the offense is above average they can win 12

If the offense is mediocre they probably win 8ish

If the offense is abysmal we'll be pissing and moaning about Cleveland getting the first pick in the draft at our expense.

I'm gonna go out on a limb and say 10-6. Probably good enough to win a weak division.

I predict, not only will the Texans be over 500, they will win at least 10 games. Possibly even 12. They win this game against the Jaguars handily and ride the emotion of the city then the momentum of this first win right through Cincinnati next Thursday. This Texans team, and Tom Savage, will surprise many. Tom is better then Brock on so many levels. The fact that Deandre believes in him should be enough. And even average play from Tom will be a big improvement over last year. That will put the Texans at winning at least 1 more game then they did last year.
we shall see. It all starts on Sunday.

I was trying to keep things realistic. :)

Hope you and yours are doing well after the storm in PA.

Way to go out on a limb... I think we need a poll on if you're being realistic
I, quite honestly, don't know what to expect this year. The Texans sucked in the turnover differential and that tends to be cyclic. The Texans were like 8-1 in one score games. That also tends to be cyclic. Throw in the OL and lack of coverage linebackers and I have no idea where the Texans record will end up.

I do think they will go 4-2 in division, sweeping the Jags and splitting with Indy and the tAcks.

So many questions ....

That ILB spot was suppose to be shored up with Cunningham but he's been shook outa his drawers a couple times by backs. I was high on him in the draft and happy as can be when he fell to the Texans .... maybe he takes a while to get up to speed , hope he isn't a small school bust - wouldn't be the first time I was wrong.

Savage has to be at least marginally better than Brick Asswiper. That was some of the worst quarterbacking I have ever seen ..... and I been around a while.

That OL is scary - Lamm has to play well and the guards have to get their act together or Tricky Rick neds to find someone on the scrap heap to replace the squeaky wheel(s).

KO coverage teams should be better with more touch backs .... but that punt coverage unit - that's one of the top 3 punters in the history of the league and they sucked last year. That has to improve. Fewer penalties!!!

I think they have to start fast , winning the first two or else we could be in for a rough season if they come out of NE 1-2 they'd probably be 3-3 going into Seattle. Luckily the division blows , I think they can go 5-1 / 4-2 within the division.

For me The Texans record will be between 9-7 and 11-5 Tom Savage plays throughout the season they will be 9-7 but if Deshuan Watson which I predict he will possibly start between weeks 5-8 The Texans will go 11-5 or even 12-4 and I think they will go 5-1 in the division sweeping the Jags, the Colts and splitting with the Titans

My sources tell me Tilman Fertita has offered $6 billion for Houston Texans; offer is contingent on he gets to replace all food vendors with his restaurants. I understand he will be putting roller coaster and an aquarium on parking lot.

I agree our 2018 MVP Fairburn needs to remain healthy.

6-10
The questions on the oline means that a brittle QB is probably not going to stay upright and even the most homer Texan fan knows that if Savage goes down and Watson is forced to play earlier than planned you will probably be an up and down offense. The odds of Savage being the first Texan QB in BOB's tenure to start 16 games aren't working in his favor either. I am also concerned of the loss of Bouye and Demps in the secondary.

8 or 9, again leaving multiple games on the table because of horrendous coaching.

I'd rather have 6-10 where our team actually looks like a competent, coherent team that another 9-7 and looking like the last three years, though.

With the Texans defense having Watt back in the mix with Clowney, Mercilus, Reader, Cushing and McKinney, it should be even more stifling to opposing offenses then last year at the line of scrimmage. Kevin Johnson is a worthy replacement for Bouye and maybe even better and we still have Joseph, Jackson, Decoud and Virgin. The safeties will be just fine with Gilcrist, Hal, Pleasant, Moore and Drummond instead of Demps. Savage or Watson will be much better at quarterback then the player who's name we don't mention from last year was. With Foreman and Miller in the back field, along with Blue and Ervin, that's going to be a tough running group to stop. Then the receivers are led by Hopkins with Strong, Ellington, B Miller, Andy Jones and the return of Will Fuller when he gets healthy. Lets not forget the lumbering giant, Fiedorowicz, and Griffin of course. That's going to be a target rich environment for either quarterback. This team should be much better then last year. I'm not as worried about the o-line as some seem to be. I think Lamm will do ok at LT. Then from left to right you have Su'a-Filo, Martin, Allen, and Giacomini. It's going to be a pretty solid line. When Brown comes back, it'll be even better. Then, on special teams, Fairbairn will force allot more touch backs on kick offs then Novak did and once he dials in his accuracy, the longer field goals. And hopefully we can get better returns from Irvin as he has gotten more comfortable in the roll. I think the Texans will win 10 to 12 games this season and will win the division. We might even see our team make it to the AFC championship this year. And hopefully, the Super Bowl! That's my guestimation.
So possibly any where from 10-6 to 12-4. Maybe even better. We shall see.

The defense wasn't super crazy visibly dominant despite being generally statistically very good last year.

Hopefully with a returning JJ and KJ we get to that point.

10-6

I know there are OL and WR questions but I'm going to take a leap of faith and say that O'Brien will negate this by going more uptempo and quicker passes in order to set up the run. This OL just isn't talented enough to hold out a defense if the team is trying to get Savage into a 5-7 step drop and 2-3 seconds in the pocket.

In the Jaguars game...Hopkins will be taken out of the game due to double and triple team coverages so it's going to fall on O'Brien and Savage to make them pay by getting enough of the other receivers involved in the game to force them out of that type of coverage. Heck, my first 10 pass attempts would be to anyone besides Hopkins. My goal would be to take the Jaguars out of their defensive gameplan as quickly as possible. Hopkins job, execute the job of decoy and take coverage away from the play as often as he can until coverages lighten up...then make them pay. The running game will happen...just don't use it to the point that the team is in a hole. I think a fast attack would catch them off-guard and may be the only to establish an early lead so the defense can do their thing.

9-7, again. This team is injury riddled, bad. Slow start. Tom Savage just doesn't scream 11-5 or 12-4. It feels like 9-7 or 8-8. I'll go with 9-7

Seems like an 8-9 win season to me. It all depends on how our division improves this year. I don't see Jax making any big strides, but the Titans and Colts should be better. We might win the division again, but I don't see this team making much noise in the playoffs. We have a lot of question marks, how will Watt play? Will we have an O-line that can protect the passer? Will Lamar Miller ever get a designed run into open space? Can Hopkins turn it around this year? Do we have a QB who can hit moving targets?
