Texans random thought of the day

Another position we are hurting in is OG............we have no backups for Allen and Filo except for Mancz and Fuller.:toropalm:

I agree interior OL depth is lacking. But CB depth is about on par with the rest of the league. Most teams struggle to field 2 competent CBs. We have 3 starter quality CBs in Jo Jo, K Jo and K Jax.

Mancz was one of the better starting centers last year. You wanna run the quality argument by again?
Come on, look at the 9 OL and tell me you can pick out more than 3 that anyone would put bets down as being considered "quality" this year (or looking at an injury history, make it through a season).

Who do you think they'll cut when DB returns Monday?

So they'll be pretty limited in running 5 WR sets? How many of those do they run anyway?
Hopkins is already dealing with a hand injury severe enough to keep him out of practices (which can't help but affect WR performance). Ervin has not been a very dynamic WR in the past. Miller is still dealing with an ankle sprain, and has not proven to be counted on to be very durable. And WRs need to be rotated to some extent to stay fresh. So there should be concern about our present WR situation.

I would hate to even try to outguess our brilliant brain trust. Most of our roster OL have big warts and our brain trust seems to be highly attracted to warts.

I think they'll cut Fuller or one of the safeties... or go the IR route with a RB or WR

Well we were talking depth.

But IMO this coaching staff doesn't have a f'king clue and so makes the OL look worse than it is. Nojt the OL but I will avoid a rant for now.

I really don't know. Fuller is probably not a bad guess. My other guess is that the Texans will be applying Compound W on many of our players throughout the season. The RB group could make an Injury Report list on their own. The WR group not far behind.

geesh the season hasn't even started and this forum already worse than 2013 and 2010 combined
We have a Super Bowl caliber defense. Our pass rush and front seven is going to be very special. Watt, Clowney and Mercilus may be the best trio of pass rushers the league has ever seen. If all three stay healthy they will rewrite the sack records during the 2017 season. For most combined sacks by three players on one team during one season.

Our offense has a lot of talent. Whether or not it can progress fast enough to be something more than a divisional round loser come playoff time is yet to be seen. Between Savage's unknown, Watson's development and Bill O'Brien's playcalling (which a lot of people doubt) it's going to be interesting to watch.

I'd like to think our special teams will be good.

don't know why you quoted me for that response

Because there are reasons to be optimistic about the 2017 Houston Texans. It's not always all doom and gloom. There are reasons to be concerned about a few positions and perhaps the offensive playcalling being in the hands of our stubborn head coach.

There is nothing wrong with the temperament on the forums other than the fact that nobody sends any likes for the good and informative posts anymore. But somebody post something short and simple, they get four or five likes from their random buddies.

what is it about likes recently... not just you

and that really has nothing to do regarding my post

We need to go after TJ Ward..................he'd be relatively cheap............great leader, great tackler, tough as nails..........and in the box player/enforcer.........would even be a great replacement and upgrade from Bouye.

Signed 1-year, $5M deal with the Bucs..
I too, was really hoping we would land him

even better for rep count is when a 'like' is doubled from same poster. i don't get why double posts cannot be corrected with main server, but then I don't know a server from waiter...

That's before the extensions to Hopkins, Hal, and Fiedo, right?
I think it is explained on the link Doc posted above: the signing bonus $7.5 million is prorated across 5 year length of the extension ($1.5) + $8.5 roster (2017) is only new money ($10 m) added to 2017 cap. His 2017 base salary of $7.8 was already included in 2017 cap. *On Troy's site he rounds it up to 8.

edit 2017 base is 7.8 not 7.5.

Ok but why does poster has to prevent it each time by "reload" if it can be fixed by a mod so it doesn't happen again? Not complaining; just don't understand.

Because the mods should be moderating when they choose to come here. It's not a paid position. They are fans just like you and I and dedicate their time 'moderating' to help us all but they can't edit every post. It's challenging enough to read every post in 8 hours and that's a stretch for anyone to reach in a day and for many a week. Why is it so hard to wait a minute, copy what your post was and then refresh? If it's there great and if not no biggie. Or do you consider your time and effort more valuable to the community?

Dang JB you sound like some of the guys you complain about..if a mod (and I did not bring them up) can fix an issue to keep it from happening again how is that not important? I thought it had to be Infantrycak or owner of site or someone like that. I am not the only one it happens to and it is very frequent. No one has to moderate each post to know this is occurring.

Ahhh, I misunderstood. I thought you knew the mods can only remove your duplicated post not prevent it from happening. The old board would notify you if you were duplicating a post within a certain time frame but I don't believe this one does. My apologies for being confused about what your perceptions were

I don't think they've found a way to stop it from happening. By "fix" they mean a moderator can remove the double post after the fact. & JB is saying he prefer they spend their time here moderating instead of deleting double posts.

A little thing I've learned to do, when a post takes to long to post, I click on the link at the bottom of the page to the forum I'm posting in. Then I find the "a moment ago" link to the thread I posted in & make sure the fast reply box is empty.

It sounds tedious, but it only takes a second & I don't have a bunch of double posts.

what I was going by CnnnD had replied to my post upstream and I understood him to say mods could correct. No need for apology. We are cool

A double post cannot be prevented by the moderators. It can only be corrected by the moderator deleting one of the double posts.

The reason for double posts on most forums is a slow and/or overloaded server. The administrators/programmers can usually either shorten what is called the flood time, or edit the java script to help avoid a poster from being able to double post. I don't know if this "double posting complaint" is getting to the administrators/programmers. So that this does not highjack this thread, it probably should be taken to the TECH section.

I just do a quick highlight and copy of what my post was going to be if it doesn't post right away, then a minute later if it still hasn't shown I refresh and past as new comment if needed.

I may pretend to be omnipotent but I know jack about servers, etc.

I do know this, hit 'post reply' once and walk away. Don't expect immediate gratification of seeing your post. It will be there. Just don't go gerbil - there is no extra food for hitting 'post reply' again.
