**Official Game-Day Thread** Texans at Panthers, Wednesday August 9, 2017!!

I think we can cut him with minimal dead money next year. I vaguely remember it really being a team option year 3.

Yeah, I would really like to see him gone after this year. Not looking ATM, but I believe his cap hit is 7.25M next year. That's like 5M too much. I believe we save all but 1M or 2M by cutting him next year.

I'll be honest not very impressed with Vrabel. Here is hoping he's just keeping the good stuff under wraps for the regular season. His timing is sketchy and he loves some cover 2

I think they're keeping things very vanilla, and probably will most of the preseason

lol first off, it's pre-season. Second off, its the second and third stringers. I wouldn't pay attention to the defensive play calls at this point.

Joe Webb not looking bad either

Eh, I don't see it. That's 3 balls that's should have been intercepted and only one was. He threw a slant to a guy that was triple teamed. If Nelson doesn't jump that, he should be cut on spot, given he had a LB and safety behind protecting him.

Why not? I get keeping blitz packages and the such under wraps, but this is the time a rookie coach can experiment and find his style and what works against specific formations regardless of the personnel. I dunno maybe I'm expecting too much.

Sadly no. We have Ch. 13 and Spencer "I make up words as I go" Tillman
Yep. NFL Network in Houston is showing alternate programming. Looks like Charles Haley: It's a football life.

If only we had a few more seconds.
Watson got us to within field goal range but time ran out.

Down 17-10 at halftime but I'm very pleased so far.

Watson looks good.
I'm okay with Tom Savage starting Week 1 but that means he better play well and we better win games. If he starts to struggle and we lose game, I would expect Deshaun Watson to start relatively quickly during his rookie season. Especially with the "quick hook" that Bill O'Brien has shown in the past.

First half observations.

Channel 13 announcers still suck. The game is better on mute.

It's preseason, and some of the hijinks we saw will improve.

Not sure I quite trust our new defensive coordinator just yet. But it's preseason, way to early to judge.

Watson will overtake Savage and be the starter during the season sometime.

I'm also reminded of why I never watch network TV or have a cable subscription. Commercials. I ******* hate ******* TV commercials. Streaming services are the only way to go.

Deshaun Watson is truly special.
But too many broken plays and penalties.

We need Watson to get first-team reps. Our second team offense is so bad, even Tom Brady would struggle with them...

Yeah, at this point I want to see him with the first team too.

With his mobility to escape and make things happen on broken plays the Texans offense might finally be good under OB.

I saw what I wanted to see. Savage looked good to me. He looked like a guy who knows where everybody else is supposed to be. He looked like a guy with an NFL arm and after a couple of drives when he and the rest of the offense seemed to settle down he looked like someone I'd be fine seeing start this year.

Watson looked electric but inaccurate at times and like a guy who has been looking at the play book for a lot less time than Savage. I can absolutely see the appeal and upside of the guy but he didn't make anything happen to be honest. He's going to be something else but the Texans aren't going to start him in week one and maybe not at all this year if Savage is producing wins. That should be a plus because if he goes in after 1-2 years of sitting behind someone and has the degree of playbook knowledge that Savage has right now he's going to be deadly.

Foreman is gonna be a beast for us. As long as he can stay away from Austin and his weed buddies he'll be the back we wanted Miller to be. Miller is a 3rd down back being paid like a franchise back and maybe we can trade him for something down the road. Blue ain't ready to go home either. Nice surprise there.

I'm watching the NFL channel in a Oklahoma motel on a 7-day sling tv trial. (Xfinity NFL channel doesn't travel). The talking heads, including David Carr, are very complimentary of Watson, fwiw. I think he looked good under the circumstances too.

As far as veteran backups go, they better look good in 1st preseason game. Heck, Gabbert looked great last week.

The coaches need to get the receivers and lineman to understand if Watson is in game they need to be aware that he extends plays. The receivers did nothing when he would scramble. They looked like they were trying to block with their butts. Just stood there. The reality is BOB just may be the one that is incompetent in regards to offense.

Have always wondered that myself. We have never scored any points under his watch.

This team does not look ready. They don't seem to be physical in their play. Always a step slow. Are they in shape??? Or is it just POOR coaching and they don't know what to do?

I've seen enough. I've been pro savage from the start but he's locking in on receivers and taking way too long to get rid of the ball.

I was worried about Watkins but he's already showing good recognition and his ability to buy time is special which will really help adjustment to the NFL. I hope he continues to play here in the second half. Get him as many reps as possible

bets on whether Watson or Weeden gets the next series....

I say Watson gets one more then Weeden finishes the game

RBs look good.
Watson has special potential.

Our secondary is trash. If we don't make the playoffs they will be the reason why.

Edit: I should say our secondary depth...
