NFL Food Concessions a Fan Ripoff

CloakNNNdagger

Hall of Fame
The Falcons owner is acknowledging this is and he evidently is going to react positively. Many fans are hardly able to afford the tickets to take their families to a game.........the food concessions take it over the top. as especially kids get very hungry over a 3 hour period of time. The inflated prices and profits by the food concessions are mind boggling. Of course, fans really shouldn't complain because they're being served only top-grade connoisseur junk food.........aren't they?

Falcons promise affordable food and drinks at new stadium
June 29, 2017, 6:07 AM EDT

When the Falcons open their new stadium this season, they say they’re going to have something unusual: Food and beverages that aren’t a ripoff.

Falcons President Rich McKay told Fast Company that fans have spoken up repeatedly that food is too expensive in stadiums, and NFL teams haven’t done enough to listen. This year, the Falcons will have $2 hot dogs, $2 sodas, $5 beers and other affordable options.

“Every year we survey them on everything,” McKay said. “Every year they say the same thing: Food and beverage, don’t like the value, don’t like the price.”

McKay said the Falcons view ticket sales as the way to make money and don’t want to gouge fans on food after that.

“Our tickets in the NFL are not inexpensive, and we can’t use this as an opportunity to hit them harder,” McKay said.

Fans will certainly approve of that.

Technically, NRG did the same thing a couple of years ago...miniature-sized items for "normal" prices.

I'll be interested to see if the Falcons plan is truly different.

There is still a lot of money to be made on $2 sodas and $5 beers. In the end they could make more money by selling more product.

Nice. Levi Stadiun allows fans to bring their own food and non alcoholic beverages. Beverages must be in plastic bottles & I believe a thermos is permitted, and fruit has be cut in slices.

All you need is a pair of these.

I have one..works great at any event..:)

Give me the high priced large beer or at least keep it an option. I don't want to have to keep going back and forth from my seat.
I can verify. A normal sized beer is $5, 20 oz IPA $8, regular sized hamburger $5, souvenir soda $4 regular $2 free refills, pretzels and hot dogs $2. Tickets are market but the concession are great and certainly a welcome addition to game day experience.

I appreciate the options at NRG but they are scaled down portions.

Bingo! I stopped reading right there because that's the truth and quite honestly I can't even afford a ticket to an NFL game these days. I'd rather spend that money on food from the grocery store, much less the over-inflated prices at the stadium.

I can watch the Texans lose big games for 16 years and counting on TV. It's not like their games are ever blacked out. They technically "sell out" every game despite the many empty seats that I see. So they're great from a TV ratings perspective. Heck, the Texans are a top 5 NFL team based on value - right behind the Cowboys, Redskins and Patriots. That's pretty amazing when you consider what a lousy team we've been over the years.

Congrats to Bob McNair. You built a successful cash cow.
Now if only winning a Super Bowl actually mattered to you.

McKay makes me want to be a Falcon fan. Man who care about the fans and future of this game.

Bob has raised ticket price every darn year. Get it while the getting is good right? I wonder in Cal will be "merciful" would he be a man of the people

As Chief Operating Officer (COO) of the Texans, Cal has essentially been setting ticket/concession prices for quite a while.

Assumption based on title. Do titles really count when daddy is the boss?
It seems to be in this case. From everything I've been told, with Bob McNair's health having become quite tenuous, his business-educated (Masters of Business Administration degree from the Rice University Jesse H. Jones Graduate School of Management) son has been handling a good deal of the numbers crunching duties and related decisions, with his daddy's final blessings.

I have a pedigree like a Westminster show dog. Dad tries to herd me and I haven't lived at home for 33 years. Just sayin'. Bob strikes me as a control until proven/pried otherwise.

Totally could be wrong. Just my impression.

Look at the way they carry themselves. Bob is a confident man. Cal is an obsequious remora.

I'm hoping the Astros/Rockets success will make the McNair's realize they aren't the only game in town anymore and re-invest in their team. This offseasons moves make me think that while they want to win a SB,it's not at the top of their priorities.

And what exactly could they have done to make you think otherwise?

Throughout the yrs put competent people in place and let them try to put the best team possible in place. That includes going after the most talented guys in FA and taking a few chances on a few select guys that have character issues.

No, no, none of this through the years BS. You said;

What could they have done THIS off-season to make you feel differently. This is Gaine's 1st off-season. I don't want hear the blah blah blah about Rick Smith's tenure.

I'm talking about the culture of the Houston Texans org.

But if you must have an example, signing Norwell, the top OG on the market. How often have the Texans signed top Fa"s?

I go to all the home games and I rarely, rarely buy any stadium food because the quality is as low as it can get and the prices are just stupid. I made the mistake of going to the Crown Royal Saloon once at NRG. The bartender, "as trained" causally asked if I would like to make that a double, without explaining the cost. Two "small" glasses of Crown, double = $36. That was 3 years ago, I'm sure it costs $46 by now. That was the first and last time I ever stepped into that money trap.

I can buy an entire bottle of Crown for $60.

LOL, wife and I are at the Astros game at end of May. Wife wants a margarita. Ok, cool. I find the bar selling margaritas. Cute girl, really cute girl behind the bar asks if I'd like the souvenir cup. I ask her what the difference in alcohol is. Well, the souvenir cup is a double. So, ya ok, I'll take the double. Cute girl, "that will be $24". Me, under my breath, "sunuvabitch!" At least I got good tequila in it, I watched.
concessions are stupidly priced!

sports is a entertainment business. No owner gives a damn about any SB. they all make more money than youll ever see and dont care what happens on the field
