ESPN bringing Hank Williams Jr. back to Monday Night Football

Sounds like ESPN has learn their lesson. Left wing propaganda and political correctness does not sell. They lost their focus and alienated a big portion of their fan base. Going back to the basics, being a SPORTS network.

Out with the old, in with the older.
Maybe the problem isn't with the dildo that does the introduction but maybe it's with the product.

Well they did just suffer that huge layoff due to a huge drop off in ratings for their networks.

ESPN has been stepping in it for YEARS and it bit them in the ass. This goes beyond Hank Williams Jr. People don't want their sports and politics mixed. Sports are supposed to be a escape from that crap. If I want a political opinion I'll tune in to one of the other "news" channels (which I hardly ever do anymore unless I feel like just being indoctrinated or lied to).

When I watch ESPN I just want a good sports take..which is always few and far between. Another thing wrong with that channel is they ignore the entire country that isn't on the east or west coast..unless you're Dallas (Dallas could go 6-10 this season and after the draft we'd still hear how they can be a contender) or maybe SA during the NBA season.

This is great news for the younger football fans that don't know what a good football intro actually is. All they know is Carrie Underwood and Priyanka Chopra. Or whatever other songs they've had in recent memory on the primetime networks (ESPN and NBC).

I grew up watching that classic ABC intro posted above.
And that was back when MNF games started a little past 8 PM central.
I'd stay up to 11:30 PM on a school night and not miss a second.

One day in the 4th grade my teacher wondered why I was sleeping in class. I remember screaming to her, "Are you ready for some football!?"

That song had me pumped up, excited and ready for some football!

Haven't learned their lesson by a long shot yet. They've had a multitude of layoffs over the last few months. They've lost Millions hand over fist, and they keep pushing race and liberal ideology all over their shows and refusing to cut the worst shows or people on those shows that are giving them terrible ratings like Steven. A Smith, Kellerman, Jemele Hill, Bomani Jones, Michael Smith, and many others that have really poor ratings. Others had to lose their jobs instead.

This downhill snowball for them will keep going for a while. Guaranteed.

Watch the liberals come in here and deny all of this in 3.2.1....

Maybe haven't learned their lesson but at least are admitting some of their wrongs by bringing back Hank and Kenny Mayne to Sports Center. A few steps in a new direction.

Thrilled to have Hank back, and I'm not even a fan. He is what I'll always remember as MOnday Night Football though.

Bingo. The only thing worse than most MNF games is Thursday games these days. Most are boring matchups by mid-season. This isn't the '70's where we had three big networks and not much else to entertain us. Now we've got hundreds of channels, online streaming, DVRs, gaming, etc.

Kenny Mayne left SportsCenter? Shows how little I watch SportsCenter. Bring back Olbermann and Patrick!

Bringing back Hank is a attempt to improve ratings.. it has nothing to do with a admitting wrong doing. They're simply desperate and now they got a ton of buzz about Hank coming back and Monday night football on the air waves.

Bringing back Hank doesn't move the needle at all with me and won't really change how I feel about that network. I was already watching less and less of their programming, but was officially done with them when this happened...

The ESPY Awards will pay tribute to late teenage basketball player Lauren Hill, who battled an inoperable brain tumor to achieve her goal of playing college basketball while helping to raise money for cancer research.

The announcement of the special presentation came amid increasing furor over Hill being passed over for the Arthur Ashe Courage Award in favor of Caitlyn Jenner, the new female identity of former Olympic champion Bruce Jenner.

A representative for the ESPYs said the producers of the show had planned to honor Hill all along, but did not announce it until Tuesday. The announcement came in an exclusive report in USA Today, and was not distributed to other media outlets writing about the Jenner controversy.

There has been widespread speculation about an alleged deal between ABC, which is airing Wednesday's awards, and Jenner for the former Olympian to receive the Ashe award in return for her granting an exclusive interview with ABC's Diane Sawyer to discuss her gender transition. The interview aired in April and was a ratings hit.

..and that was when I pretty much (Outside of the times I have to tune in to see Houston play) pulled the plug on them. ESPN sold out for ratings and headlines and a exclusive interview. . So now I try the best I can to limit them in the ratings department. (Although they're doing a helluva better job all by themselves).

Coming out as transgender in the year 2015 isn't all that courageous to me. Everytime a athlete/celebrity comes out today they're widely praised and accepted.. Hell she even got a cover on Vanity Fair and her own TV show.

Lauren Hill will always be the 2015 Arthur Ashe winner in my eyes. She was just a teenage girl who wanted to realize her dream and play woman's collegiate basketball. Then she received a horrific diagnosis that would've made even strong people give up and wait for the disease to take it's course..

Instead of just giving in and giving up on her dream, she stayed positive throughout it all, worked her tail off and played in and scored in college basketball games. On top of going through all that, she also helped raise over 1.5 million dollars for pediatric cancer research. However ESPN chose the ratings Jenner would bring and that's where they lost me. Happy for Hank, but it won't change anything with me.

And if they really wanted to help out with the ratings of MNF, they should've never took it off Network television to begin with.

Agree with the Jenner thing, that was a joke.

They lost me far before that and it was only partially due to politics. It's just content. They weren't providing anything. I didn't learn anything or hear about anything on ESPN anymore. It was all opinion panel. I'd rather just watch highlights on repeat of every game from the previous day. If you're going to basically go all-in on either highlights or panels, you go highlights. If you're incapable of keeping the opinion "analysis," where a guy or gal sits in front of the screen and breaks down the game for 45 minutes, down to less than half of your programming, you're doing it wrong. JMO.

It's not just good ol'Hank:

Jason Derulo, Florida-Georgia Line will join Hank Williams for new MNF opening song
http://profootballtalk.nbcsports.co...-join-hank-williams-for-new-mnf-opening-song/

The news that Hank Williams Jr. will return to ESPN’s Monday Night Football after a hiatus fueled by a Hitler comparison includes word that the revamped launch to the game will include “two additional contemporary music artists to freshen the song’s presentation.”

Per an industry source, the two contemporary artists are Jason Derulo and Florida-Georgia Line (pictured).

ESPN presumably will be announcing the addition of the two acts sooner than later. The opening was filmed Sunday in Nashville, which means that plenty of people already know that Derulo and Florida-Georgia Line were involved.

How important to a football broadcast is the opening? For ESPN, the Monday Night Football opening was regarded to be important enough to embrace someone they had shunned for making a foolish right-leaning political statement, at a time when some are blaming ESPN’s death spiral on a habit of having too many left-leaning views.

While it’s premature to suggest that ESPN is making decisions aimed at eliminating the impression that the network swings blue, it makes sense to wonder whether or not the next guy to make a comeback in Bristol will be Rush Limbaugh.

That quote worried me. Don't bring him back! His racist views sicken me.
I was disgusted by some of the comments he made about McNabb.

And now that Deshaun Watson is our QB of the future.
Just imagine the dumb comments he would make about our guy.

Funny you would cite that as making you so disgusted. Although it was dumb of him and ignorant to say, that isn't even half as bad as what a ton of ESPN analysts say on the regular basis now days. INteresting how none of that bothers you though.

The problem with ESPN is the crazy rights fees they paid out plus with all the cord cutting they are losing subscribers to a point where the ratings can't keep them making a profit no matter what the ratings are for the games.

Is Hank Williams Jr. too old to solo now a days?
I love all of his old themes for MNF. It didn't need anybody else.

Nope

Just ESPN being ESPN.

I really hope they lose their PC asses. Trying to influence kids with the Jenner crap instead of giving the award to a true inspiration like Hill just sickens me.

ESPN became a globalist network when ABC bought them out and tried to change how Americans viewed their sports. Now they're feeling the repercussions of that decision. I'm glad to see them become a failure.

Lets get back to them being a sports network that is all about sports, but I dont see that happening anytime soon.

That ain't Never gonna happen. They are all about the ESPY's now. They have no sports reporters anymore

They still have Rachel Nichols, who is widely praised as one of the best in her business. They had to give her a hefty pay raise to keep her from going back to CNN. Her daily show "The Jump" on ESPN is really good. I try not to miss an episode.

You also think Skip Bayless and S. A. S. are really good

Yep, this is the reason their numbers are down, not boycotts because they are liberal.

Hank Jr. is terrible, but Hank 3 is damn awesome. Should have given the song to him if they want to go back to the well.
