Sellout for Deshaun Watson

I understand the excitement and I'm happy too, but what in the living **** makes anyone think Bill O'Brien can coach anyone up?
He's had a winning record with how many different starting quarterbacks in his three years here? This is the first time in his head coaching tenure that we wisely invested into the quarterback position in the first round. The #12 overall pick!

Oooh a winning record with all the garbage quarterbacks he foisted upon us and was directly responsible for! Wow!

This certainly helps with DeAndre Hopkins re-signing long term with the Houston Texans. Making 'Nuk happy is a great thing. Don't you guys think?
Indeed, and one of the silver linings to the Os debacle is that we have spare cap room to push DeAndre's cap hit more towards year one and keep the cap # more reasonable down the line.

That's going to help get Nuk tied down through his prime years and allow us more wiggle room for resignings and signings in future years.

For now I'm thinking VY 2.0. .:vincepalm:
I understand the comparisons. They both ended their collegiate careers with an incredible National Championship game performance. And Vince Young made a pro bowl, won a lot of games and led the Titans to the playoffs, even smoked us with a beautiful overtime run at NRG (Reliant) Stadium early in his career.

Vince Young was an awesome playmaker before those inner demons got the better of him. Deshaun Watson also scored a 20 on his wonderlic test. Vince Young scored a 16 on his (which is still one of the lowest ever recorded).

People will say what they want to say. Let them.
Let's have fun and enjoy this team. Support our players!

In Deshaun Watson I see a leader and winner. The same intangibles Vince Young had. As long as Watson doesn't allow any off-the-field distractions to consume him. People tend to forget that VY was one hell of an exciting player that won a lot of games prior to him falling apart mentally (off-the-field distractions).

I love the fact we picked up Jadeveon Clowney's option for an extra year as well. We're in good shape to make a run at the Super Bowl once or twice over the next few years. Let's all hope for a healthy and dominating #99, Superman! I mean J.J. Watt!!!!

Other then Denver cards and maybe giants i really think watson could of fell to us

But Smith isn't know to stay pat and hold his water so

You can be sarcastic all you want but I give the Texans organization credit for finally showing the guts to trade up and draft somebody high in the first round. Like I said, this is the first time we've invested this much, in terms of draft picks, on a quarterback. We literally gave the Browns two #1s (our #1 and #2 next year) just to clean up some of our past mistakes and roll the dice yet again.

I think it was Speedy that once mentioned on these forums in the past, "You've got to keep swinging for a quarterback until you find one. No matter if you strike out numerous times."

Comparisons to VY scream "I did not watch Watson play or know much about him at this point."
The comparisons are only made on how they ended their collegiate careers and their low wonderlic scores taken at the combine. Stuff I don't really put a lot of stock into moving forward.

Both of them won a lot of games in college. VY had a successful pro career early in his career with the Titans before he fell apart mentally and allowed the off-the-field distractions to ruin his career.

And somebody else brought it up, calling him VY 2.0
I don't really see that myself. I think Deshaun will be better.

I'd do that too but I already gave them all the credit I had saved up when they got the guts to go out and sign a promising free agent QB. I'm gonna have to build my reservoir of Texans credit back up before I spend too much time patting them on the back for this one.

I like the move and the pick. Matt Schaub has been the best QB this organization has ever had. It's time to move up with a QB this team and fans can get excited about.

Yup. They just see a black athletic qb who went to back to back championships
They see a successful QB that dominated a National Championship Game against great competition prior to declaring for the NFL Draft. They also had some similar combine results. Why does race have to be a part of this? If they were white the same comparisons could still be made.

Agreed. I think it's more the body type (slender), escapability, and the production that draw the comparisons.

But I'm happy to tell you that they don't compare much.

I hope we hear the "Rick forced Watson on Bill O'Brien" stuff before we learn that O'b can't coach him.

I like the player. I like that they finally took their shot.

I hate trading future picks. It would have been nice if we could have made the trade with this year's 2nd instead of next year's 1st. I'm not gonna cry about that but I don't like it.

The stupid Osweiler trade looks even more retarded now. Should have just cut that bum if we had to be rid of him.

Does he really have Moon's number? That's some serious **** to me.

They give every 1st round pick a #1 jersey of the team that drafted him when they walk on stage to shake hands with Goodell. It's a visual thing.

Watson's number in college was 4. Moon wore no. 1 in college, fwiw.

Texans have mentioned at least three times that Tom Savage will be the starter.

Plus Deshaun won't want to kill himself or spend paychecks on Cheesecake Factory

I would have preferred we had gone in a different direction. He cost a lot. Not having a one or a two is going to hurt next year, but if we can get a quality RT tomorrow with our two, I can roll with it. Bolles and Ramczyk are off the board, but we may have a shot at Robinson, Moton or Dawkins.

Vince Young supposedly scored a 6 (not a 16) on his Wonderlic - which is still one of the lowest ever recorded.

How is this gonna hurt? Some of those same tackles that were supposed to be gone are still there.

One of you wanted Deshaun Watson's appearance on ESPN's Gruden camp. I think I found it for you. Here it is... He's a great young man. A winner, a leader and he does a lot of great things on and off the field. We couldn't have drafted a better quarterback in this draft class, IMO.

yep, third lowest score ever. Morris Claiborne still has the lowest with a score of 4.
I wonder who scored that low for lack of knowledge or being too lazy to read the questions and bubble in answers only to find out the bubbling made them look like idiots.

At any rate, I hope the Texans selection turns out to be one that will bring many exciting games and wins.

He's by all account nets a great guy.

But I'm not impressed with him as a qb.

I'm hopeful though that he can grow into the guy though.

Honest assessment. Good thing is that his growth only needs to come in learning the new system, decision making, the way the offense functions, and the speed of the game. He doesn't need to learn how to work hard, or grow into a more mature person, he's got those qualities already. A lot to learn and improve on but the most difficult internal struggles are already worked through, in my opinion.

I'm optimistic about the team for the first time in quite awhile.

I dislike this pick, especially for what we gave up to the Browns. I'm already hearing that the Browns duped Smith into trading up by threatening to take him themselves.........while having no real intentions of taking him. Tricky Ricky, you got screwed again by your dear friend Sashi.

Ball velocity numbers (MPH) from the Combine:
60 - Mahomes
59 - Webb
56 - Kizer
55 - Trubisky, Evans
53 - Peterman, Kaaya
49 - Watson

55 MPH is universally considered the bare minimum for a NFL QB to be successful. Below that number, balls don't get there in time and windows close too quickly............the reason that Watson in the past 2 years ranked at the top of Division 1a QB interceptions.

Clemson QB Deshaun Watson’s thrown a lot of INTs. Let’s look closely at each

Is this a flaw a dangerous secondary like Ohio State’s can pounce on, or has Watson just been unlucky?
by Richard Johnson@RJ_Writes Dec 31, 2016, 8:23am EST

Clemson junior quarterback Deshaun Watson is brilliant. He finished second in Heisman voting this year, the second year in a row he got to New York. He won the Davey O’Brien Award this year and last, for the top quarterback in the country, and is a potential top-10 draft pick. He is prolific both in his individual numbers and his 30-3 career record as the Tigers’ starter.

There’s one hitch in Watson’s stats this year, though. The 3,914 yards and 37 touchdowns are great, as is the 154 efficiency rating. What’s less great are Watson’s 15 interceptions in 13 games. He tossed three in Clemson’s lone loss, at home against Pitt in November, and has been picked at least once in all but four games.

No other Playoff QB has more than nine. Watson throws more than the other three, but he’s also thrown one pick for every 32.5 attempts, worse than Alabama QB Jalen Hurts’ 37.4, Washington QB Jake Browning’s 50.4, or Ohio State QB J.T. Barrett’s 69.2.

I hope the velocity is something that can be fixed with Mechanics. Based on the sports science video I watched one thing I am optimistic about is his release. It's just that he's a flat footed thrower and that hurts velocity.

Velocity isn't the determining factor, but make no mistake, it matters.

But watching him again I was encouraged by some things I saw on film. I don't know if it's me trying to reconcile it since he's a Texan now though.

I'm not very excited about the player as I think this will set the franchise even further back, but I'm a fan of the move itself to get a qb.

Put some talent around this guy, work on his mechanics and training and let's see if he can be a franchise guy.
