Texans trade Osweiller to Browns

My feelings exactly bro.
Yes we get no 2nd next year but you basically have to say that with that move we get a player in FA this year....Dontari Poe, a better OL, possibly another good receiver...or maybe AJ Bouye doesn't sign and comes back to us.
Now we can get a QB in the draft and maybe a veteran QB to float the boat.

I don't get it. At first, people were upset as of yesterday because Brock was on the roster taking up all this cap space. We remove Brock, get more cap space and people want to get pissed because we are losing a 2nd rounder next year. But man, if that cash we just got this year turns into a better young OL, I will not be upset at that.

What if that money turns into Tony Romo being the new team trainer's chat buddy? How do you feel about that?

Not only did the Texans sign Brock Osweiler as free agent, they just gave Cleveland a 2018 2nd rd draft pick to do so. And then they traded him to Cleveland for a 2017 4th rd draft pick.
Just be grateful the Osweiler experiment is over including his contract.
You would be moaning if they never tried anything.
Nope I was content to let 2017 play out and then be done with it. So they gave up 2018 2nd rd draft pick and got nothing in return to be done with it. GOOD GRIEF!

Report: Browns planning to cut Osweiler following trade with Texans
Dan Wilkins Mar 9, 2017 3:32 PM
The Cleveland Browns are planning to cut quarterback Brock Osweiler after acquiring him in a trade from the Houston Texans, NFL Network's Ian Rapoport reports.

More to come.

Where did A.J. Bouye end up? Was it the Jaguars?
$27 million guaranteed on a 5 year, $67.5 million deal.

And the Texans passing attack will still stomp the Jaguars twice a year. I can't wait until we expose Bouye in 2017. And that talented Jalen Ramsey kid which people compare to a young Deion Sanders. He's good but he ain't no Deion. Bring it on! All hyped up secondary.

Not if they trade for Romo which is what this whole thing looks like now. But if it's a trade what are we giving up?

God, I hope not. Let's just make this situation worse.

I don't think we will get a comp pick for Bouye anyway. We just traded a second rounder for cap space. We are going to spend that money on someone, plus we already had $20M in space. We aren't going to lose enough guys on larger contracts to offset our gains.

Not a bad deal for Bouye, because he doesn't have to be the #1 CB. He's going to get exposed though, you're right about that.

I don't know what is more ridiculous, the fact that you actually would call this bust of a move genius since we now lost picks after a bad signing, or the fact that other desperate Texans fans actually liked that comment.

I get it that people are glad Oz is gone. I am too. But calling this move genius? :mariopalm:

The whole damn thing was a clusterfuck from the get go. Yeah, I wouldn't go throwing around the word genius with regards to anybody down on Kirby, but that mess is in the rear view mirror now.

I don't see a trade for Romo...he'll get cut. I still don't want to sign him as a FA either. Rather draft two QB's and see how it rolls.

So, the word is that Cleveland might just cut Osweiler in an NBA style move. Basically they traded the cash equivilent of Brock's contract for a second round pick.

Now, Elway can put his money where his equestrian-like mouth is, and sign Osweiler as a free agent. Full circle, yo.

Hopefully someone will evaluate his decision to give Brock $37M guaranteed, then trade picks to get rid of him, then throw the rest of the money at a guy who can't get through preseason without an injury.

Fire this idiot.

If they sign Romo with this money, they won't be getting a comp pick for Bouye.
Nope! Romo wouldn't be an expiring contract - he'd be a cut. Waived players don't factor into compensatory pick calculations.

Edit - this (obviously) assumes a cut and a FA signing. If there's a trade (which I don't think there will be), there still wouldn't be any compensatory pick impact.

In savages defense... the qb sneak in a meaningless time of the game(and the field position) was idiotic even if he didnt get a conclusion

So, I'm assuming we are going to sign Romo and he's going to get injured again.

Would this do it? Would this finally be enough to move on to a different GM? Sadly, I don't think it would.

Wrong.
They got a 4th out of it and cap space this year.
They obviously have plans for it.

I think that's only for the team waiving him, not the team that acquires him thereafter. Not 100% sure though.

If you know different, can you provide a link? I'm always looking for additional comp pick information.

I literally have not stopped laughing since first reading this thread. This is amazing, we gave away a second round pick to save a few bucks in cap space - to get rid of our starting quarterback. :spit::shoot::rofl:

Oh, even better - we're going to use that saved money on signing a 36 year old quarterback who has never won a meaningful game and has spent the past few seasons in the hospital. WE ARE AWESOME!!!

Are you sure about this? If he's cut he's a FA, right?

I hate using assets to rectify mistakes (as I mentioned earlier with the Kimbrel trade was MUCH worse than this) but the more I think about it, the more I'm liking this. Both Romo and Cutler are guys that don't need too much development. Since O'Brien is a terrible coach, we don't have to rely on him to "make" a QB. It's plug and play, and hopefully the playcalling and O'Brien's mistakes won't be so much of a detriment to either established QB.

And cap space to potentially extend Hopkins, sign an OL or eight, sign another LB or replace Bouye?

Not bad.

I mean it's bad and it's not bad. It's pretty embarrassing. But I'm glad that we seemingly got out from under that.

Who would this be?

Quit being a bunch of drama queens. It was a good move to fix a mistake. They signed the best available free agent QB last year to fix our greatest weakness, but it didn't work out. Osweiler was an up & coming young QB like Schaub was several years ago. This time, it didn't work out for us. I doubt anyone on this board could've done any better. This move caught me completely off guard, but looks like a very clever move on the Texan's part. Sure, they gave up a 2nd round pick, but they obviously have another bold move up their sleeve. It looks like they're going after the trade for Romo. I'm not a big fan of Romo, but if he can win games for us, I'll become his biggest fan. If they make that trade, then I can guarantee they'll draft the best RT available (Cam Robinson) in this year's draft. We will recover from trading the 2018 2nd round pick. So, get over it.

And it is the first pick of the 4th round. The Texans probably, I hope it works out this way gave up a late 2nd round pick to clear cap space to sign some offensive linemen in free agency.

I really don't think Romo is coming here.

And I understand why people are upset about this. I am too. But in retrospect, I liked the Osweiler signing, I thought it showed the Texans brass thought they could make a big run in the playoffs. It turned out to be a terrible signing though. So bad they desperately got rid of him. Hopefully this works out but I am not confident.

Schefter reporting that the Browns have received calls for a trade of Osweiler and they may get another pick in this.

Man, this was such a stupid move.

Someone may have to correct me, but Romo isn't a FA that figures into the comp pick equation since he's going to get cut, not play out his contract to free agency, right?

If Romo gets cut, that makes him a free agent. We would be bringing in a starter of high contract value, offsetting the loss of Bouye. I'm sure there is going to be another free agent or two as well, so I don't expect comp picks to be something we look forward to.

I originally heard about this from a friend who got it backwards and told me we traded Brock FOR a second round pick. I just about swerved out of the lane I was driving in. It felt like Die Hard when Hans is telling his men "You ask for a Miracle... I give you the "Cleveland Browns".

The reality isn't as good but at least he's gone. Gone is different. Different is good.

Crazy thing is that if the browns trade brock and get a 6th or something. The board would be lighting up about how dumb it is to give up that low of a pick for a,starting qb.

No win situation for us
