Loaded TE Class Which One Do You Like?

Here's the listing and rankings according to NFL.com

Howard, O.J. TE 6'6" 249 Alabama 6.5
Njoku, David TE 6'4" 245 Miami 6.4
Everett, Gerald TE 6'3" 227 South Alabama 6.0
Hodges, Bucky TE 6'7" 245 Virginia Tech 5.9
Engram, Evan TE 6'3" 236 Mississippi 5.8
Butt, Jake TE 6'6" 250 Michigan 5.8
Sprinkle, Jeremy TE 6'5" 256 Arkansas 5.7
Leggett, Jordan TE 6'5" 250 Clemson 5.5
Shaheen, Adam TE 6'6" 277 Ashland 5.5
Smith, Jonnu TE 6'3" 245 Florida International 5.4
Roberts, Michael TE 6'4" 261 Toledo 5.4
Saubert, Eric TE 6'5" 251 Drake 5.3

Ones I like Everett, Hodges and Engram. Everett seems well rounded and an offensive threat. Hodges has great size/speed combination. Engram is a flat out playmaker although it was already pointed out to me that the Texans already have Anderson who would be a similar type of H-Back. The Texans only have two TE's on the roster and this draft offers a good opportunity to grab a good compliment to FIDO and another offensive piece to be used. I would also add that the Texans met with Engram, Everett and Howard at the Senior Bowl.

Not being picky here, but we still have three.
If they feel comfortable enough with Fido and Anderson, they could drop Griffin and take a promising rookie.
Adam Shaheen is a big big guy with great hands as well. Ex-basket baller who moves very well for a man his size.
Should be able to get him in the fourth.

My fault I guess I didn't count Anderson. Never been to big of a fan of griffins, not saying much, but his hands have been spotty and really can't say he's even replacement level.

Edit. Griffin is a FA so only two on the roster.

What are your thoughts on Jake Butt? Wasn't he considered the top TE last year if he would have come out?

I like that pick too! He'll need some polishing and time to get use to playing against guys he will not be able to physically dominate but he could be a real steal.

On Shaheen

"I watched him for two games and turned the tape off because I want to see him live in Indy before I develop any more of an opinion of him. I saw some things that has me very excited." - AFC pro personnel director

Might not make it that far if he has a good combine.

Butt seems to be a solid high floor low ceiling guy who will start in the league for a long time.

Per NFL.com

Sources Tell Us
"He's going to be a good pro. Everyone wants Kelce, Olsen or Gronk but those are elite players. Butt is dependable and will make first downs. They all get better as blockers once they get up here." -- AFC director of scouting

This brings up a question I have. When the 25th pick is there and all the O-linemen the Texans wanted are off the board except Robinson, and they have no one rated that high on Defense, but OJ Howard is sitting there, what do think the Texans should do?

Pick Howard

Moton in the 3rd.

TE's typically take a couple of years to realize their potential, but Stephon Anderson was much better than his draft position.
Texans were forced to use their TE's last season due to injuries to WR's but it was worth it to see Fido emerge as someone to reckon with.

If you think he is who most scouts think he is, no hesitation do it. Having a weapon and a good blocker will go along way. Being able to run 2TE sets and create mismatches will give the offense alot of flexibility.

Unrealistic scenario imo

If Kizer is there and they pass on him they need their heads read - his potential value is too high to pass on him, Trubisky or Watson at 25.

Trubisky or Watson I'm good with at #25. Kizer to me is missing something. I don't know if it's in his heart or head, or you could call it the "it factor" if you want, but I'm just not seeing it with him.

The Tight ends looked good today, Engram with a blazing fast 4.42,(only 4 WR were faster)Howard not far behind at 4.51 probably solidifying himself atop this class and should crack at least the top 20. The other guys did well and no one hurt themselves. This is a serious group of athletic tight ends, a perfect year to grab one.

Another note between 2006-2016 no TE had a broad jump of 11 ft or more, this year 3 TEs accomplished the feat. Hodges, Njoku and Kittle

I'm not sure we draft a TE at all... certainly not with a high pick unless maybe Howard falls to us

I think there will be good players as late as the 5th round this year, so it doesn't even have to be a high pick. This is the best TE class in a very long time. You can get a guy like Jeremy Sprinkle that late so I kind of suspect they will get one at some point.

If we're smart we will, of course I said the same thing last year at this time about OT and I have doubts about Smith being considered smart. Griffin, who's been very disappointing, will be a FA after the 2017 season and Fiedorwicz is average at best. That only leaves Anderson who's small by TE standards. I'd love to get Hodges or Leggett in the 3rd, but not sure either lasts that long.

They met with all the TEs at the senior bowl so I think it something that on tap. Also they only have one on the roster. Even though Anderson is the same type, I believe Engram is a real game changer. He could line up at WR with his speed. I like all the guys to some extent though.

Griffin is an UFA now, so the TE situation is even more urgent than you've described. BTW, Griffin was a 6th round pick. Not disappointing, but not overwhelming either.

I would love to see Engram on this team. Just imagine Mahomes to Engram, talk about stretching the seams of a defense. Too bad the Texans are going to have to invest in the OL early and Engram wont last past the 2nd rd.

I'm not so sure they "have to" invest early, if they can sign a tackle to start in FA and another interior, it won't be necessary to draft early. I'm with you on mahomes to Engram, you add in Fuller and the team can become real explosive, what's definitely on the table is a Kelly to Engram connection. That wouldn't even take guys fallen to pull off.

Thank You for the info.. I'd really like Hodges or Leggett, Howard will be gone and I like my TE's to be big.

Leggett made some big plays in college. I think he's the kind of TE that can get deep down the middle.
