I had the same thought. If it weren't for the amount of money we're spending and will spend on Os, I'd be happy to have Romo in town. As things are, though, we should look for someone willing to work for less. Not sure how we afford both Romo and Osweiler (either on roster or cut, cause ain't nobody taking him in trade).
Wouldn't mind taking some shot with him while a viable youngster develops, just don't see the feasibility.
i would prefer Phillip Rivers. He is not happy with the chargers moving to LA. There is a chance we can get him. im not sure but i think he will be a free agent if they dont sign him this offseason.
Rick Smith needs to get on the phone with his agent...... BoB i got you a QB![]()
He's contracted through 2019, and so not much different (effectively anyway) than the financial constraints Romo would bring.
How's it feasible with the albatross that is Os's contract?
Unfortunately while true initially, he has finally embraced the move to Los Angeles and is excited to play in L.A. this upcoming year. He said as much on the Jimmy Kimmel show the other night along with fellow teammate Joey Bosa. They are both excited to play for the Los Angeles Chargers.i would prefer Phillip Rivers. But if the Cowboys released Tony Romo and he were willing to come here for less money, and then Adrian Peterson wants to sign here for a hometown discount (both coming to win here and not about the money).
So I guess none of it is within the realm of possibilities since our Football experts in the front office screwed up so badly (meaning unsatisfactory, inadequate or unsuccessful way) on the Osweiler signing. We are stuck with Osweiler for atleast this next season. Our hands are tied at this point with very few options or money to spend on a top veteran quarterback like a Tony Romo or Phillip Rivers.

It very much is, Especially since OS is gone next year.It isn't ....
He'll be close to the Texas Medical Center when he breaks that collarbone again if he's lucky enough to do it at a home game.
He's got that going for him. We'll be screwed though like Dallas fans during the last few years before they got a replacement QB.

If J.J. Watt is able to make a healthy return in 2017 and we found a way to add Tony Romo and Adrian Peterson in the backfield, who has already expressed a strong interest in finishing his career here (he lives here), the Houston Texans could become a serious favorite to win the Super Bowl next year.I seem to remember a few washed up players coming to the Texans for a final paycheck. I think they all worked out spectacularly. Romo and Peterson, what could go wrong?

This isn't like adding Ed Reed or Eric Moulds, or even Ahman Green, (insert old washed up name) because we just came off a hard-fought divisional round loss at Foxborough (down 17-13 at halftime and 24-16 early in the fourth quarter) despite not having our best player in J.J. Watt.
We're so close to becoming a Super Bowl team.
If you could sell me on a healthy Romo and Peterson come next January for the playoffs.
I'd be convinced, or at least very confident, that we could reach the Super Bowl and win it.
I also feel some of the comments remind me of when Peyton Manning was a free agent. People just argued why it couldn't work. He had a bad neck they said. He couldn't play in Gary Kubiak's West Coast offense they said. He's not a bootleg type of QB. But yet he won the Super Bowl playing for Kubiak last year before he retired. And he had the #1 defense and a strong run game to carry him.
Our defense will be dominating (#1 in the league). Add a good quarterback and a future Hall of Fame running back that should have fresh legs at near the age of 32, because he only played 4 games in two of the past three years, and we could very well win the Super Bowl next year if things fell our way.
Maybe Lamar Miller's pride would get in the way. Who knows.
If we could just sell him on the idea of splitting carries with AP!
But our players deserve a Super Bowl ring and I want to get it next year!!!!
Romo, yes, but only if we can trade Osweiler for him.
No. Nobody would want to be saddled with Oz and his salary. And do you think we could trade Os for him (or trade Os whatsoever)?
The only way he comes here is if he's released and signs an incentive laden deal. If that were to happen I'd be very happy but also waiting for him to break another bone. Romo can still be a productive player but is frail. Some of the comments being flung around are eerily similar to what was being said about Manning 5 years ago.
This isn't a big window and the thinking can't be about what's best for the team in the long term.
Romo will be released, and if he's interested in playing here the front office should entertain the idea, I'm sure the price tag can be creative and performance laden which would incentivize at about the time the Osweiler contract can be dumped. Draft and groom the future QB behind Romo.
If we go into the next season with the same quarterbacks it will be another wasted season.

Maybe it's a pipe dream on my part but if we included a draft pick with Os, I don't see why the Cowboys wouldn't entertain it. It's basically trading a $19 million backup Qb for a $16 million one for them. I believe I read they would have around $24 million in dead money if they cut Romo. The Cowboys would save $8 million, have an extra draft pick and they can cut Os after next year for nothing. I could just be pipe dreaming of a way to get rid of Os, though. And do you think we could trade Os for him (or trade Os whatsoever)?

It's a crap shoot regardless of draft position. With so much money invested in Os next year I guess the only possible way for improvement at the QB position is to draft one. With Houston picking so low that also seems like a crap shoot, though.
to be fair some worked out, like wilforkI seem to remember a few washed up players coming to the Texans for a final paycheck. I think they all worked out spectacularly. Romo and Peterson, what could go wrong?

and I bet manning would have worked out pretty good if we would have gone for him
oh I am not in the romo camp.Tell me that CND is wrong and Romo is going to survive 2 hits. Tell me that 31 year old Peterson is so special that he can combine with Miller to take up our cap space needed to build an offensive line. Talk to me. Tell me that 37 and 31 are our lucky numbers.
If you want to spend money on a vet, how about Matt Kalil to beef up the O-line. He'll be a F/A and SpotTrac projects his mkt value at around 5+ mil/yr. He could play LT and move D.Brown to RT or keep D.B. where he is for another year or so and put Kalil at RT. And compared to taking on Romo's salary, that leaves some change to pick up another F/A lineman (or CB).There's really no money to be spent on a (quality) QB unless you ignore other things, which I hope they don't do. Beef up the oline, and head into camp with our current trio of QBs and another couple from "somewhere" and hope for the best. Before you go putting your dream QB on the team, he really ought to have a better line up front.

Two.To be fair ONE worked out who had just come off of a great post-season and landed with his former Coordinator.

Two.
Antonio Smith came back this year to add experience and depth to the D-line after Watt was lost. I'd call that a success.
This is Houston.
If Romo goes to Buffalo he'll play in two of the next five Super Bowls, winning one.
If he comes to Houston he'll miss an average of nine games for the next three years before we let him go.
