Texans and Godsey Mutually Part Ways

I'm betting Izzo is next. Kickoff return for TD in consecutive year playoff games. Not good.

I kind of liked Godsey myself. He had some intelligent play calls occasionally. Gotta blame somebody, surely it's not the bazillion dollar quarterback we paid.

we had one of the worst special teams units in the league. Gave up the most yards on kickoffs in the league. Izzo deserves to get the boot as well.

That offense, with our present defense, and we'd have murdered the Patsies.
2009-2012 Schaub & Foster + 2016 defense = guaranteed Super Bowl victory.

Seriously, we all hated Schaub and he needed to go at the end of his tenure, but he was our best QB and he was in that tier just below the Brady-Rodgers-Rothlisbergers-Brees of the league. QB has been a revolving door since he left.

Yep. If only those years had aligned...

I actually miss the Kube system. Before our QB fell apart, that ZBS with Foster and Schaub was a thing of beauty at times
Oh i agree, add in the fact Brock looked bearable in that offense..but sadly Lil Shanny isn't coming here for a lateral move. Hopefully we spend this offseason improving the Oline, finding a tandem back to pair with Miller, bc brock is going to be here on the ledger regardless, and more than likely on the team.

The question is, what OC is going to come in and have OB's trust to really change the offense? Does it have to be someone from his school on the Erhardt-Perkins system hes running? What coaches are out there running it who we feel can come in and make ANY palpable change to Os?

I think O'Brien and Kelly are buds. Not out of the question, though it looks like Chip is heading to JAX.
I can't even imagine what the offense would look like with these two clowns.

OB is slow and painful to watch. No creativity, simple routes, very low explosion.

Kelly is extremely fast, too fast, tons of misdirection and extremely explosive.

How would they even work together

Somebody had to fall on the sword for the failed Brock experiment. It surely would never be those that were actually responsible for bringing his sorry ass to Houston...
Word. Godsey is the sacrificial lamb. He deserved the axe don't get me wrong, but that still leaves Ricky and BOB and until at least Ricky is gone, I have little hope of any real change. And frankly, BOB doesn't get a pass either. Wasn't he the QB whisperer? The one with the brilliant offensive mind? Why is he still here?

And I don't think it was Godsey that was all over Brock's jock. That was Ricky. In some locales, failure isn't accepted. Here? It's rewarded. I'm sure Ricky will get a lifetime extension any day now.

Not that I like anyone getting fired, but I am impressed. I didn't think O'b had it in him.

IMO, this was the source of friction we kept hearing about. Godsey was like a brother to O'Brien & I think was holding him back.

I'd have dressed it up. Made him the QB coach special assistant, etc... but this "clean break" is much healthier.

Wow.

I am surprised it happened so fast. I would have expected something slower. Like reevaluate the team after the super bowl type of thing.

It may not be that easy to find a quality OC willing to live or die with Brock hanging around his neck as a potential starter next season............especially if that rope is tied securely to O'Brien, who may still be forced by McNair and Smith to create what for now could very well be considered the impossible............making a legitimate starter out of Brock. If Brock is the starter next year and he does as well as he did this year, O'Brien and his new OC go down with him........any potential OC will be thinking about that carefully before jumping into the fire............while Smith and McNair continue to fan the flames...........

I'm hoping they moved so quickly because Kelly is interviewing with the Jags.

We already missed on Musgrave. Kelly & Turner are the best names out there now.

I hope we get one of those guys. Someone O'b doesn't have to hold his hand.

Chip just left Jacksonville and yes BOB and Chip go pretty far back:

http://www.philly.com/philly/blogs/dneagles/194314636.html

"I know Chip very well. He's one of the brightest coaches I've been around. He's a very bright guy," O'Brien said. "He's a quick-minded guy; he thinks well on his feet. He's got a lot of great ideas, he's creative. He knows how to surround himself with really good people, which he's done in Philadelphia. Philadelphia fans can expect a very exciting, competitive football team."

Since Kelly took the job, they've been texting one another fairly frequently, O'Brien said. Hmmm. What about?

"That's between him and me. Just good conversations about football."

I know Kubes retired for health reasons but would he be a OC? Less stressful at least

I don't want Chip. He's a college coach and he's best suited for a college spread - speed style offense. Not sure that works in the NFL.
I don't know of any other OC candidates

Two more things need to happen. Oz needs to be cut and we need to hire a new OC. I don't want OB running the Offense and there is no reason to keep Ozweiler. I don't care about the dead money. It's gone, let it go.
