We try not to let folks know we actually had that stuff in our fridge.
Like Hoyer, it wasn't bad at first but that lingering sour after-taste was a b!tch

It crossed my mind that O'Brien was opening up the playbook yesterday with Savage in order to show the front office what his guy is capable of doing.
Pure speculation, of course, but partly based on John McClain's take that Brock was a front office decision and reports that there have been many heated arguments behind closed doors between O'Brien and Brock.
I do not remember Brock saying anything negative about the Broncos or having any negative attitude about anything. Even with the Whitehouse visit decline, he said it was all about team and working on chemistry with his Texans teammates.
I don't have any problems with Brock the guy. But, as a pro QB, he's just awful. I'm not sure another off-season can fix his consistent inaccuracy. Dude is averaging 2+ INTs per game. That's just terrible.
In 53 ½ quarters, Brock had 5 or more pass plays called in a row 8 times. In 2 ½ quarters, Savage had 5 or more pass plays called in a row 5 times (10 in 1 series). In those series, Savage’s completion percentage was 57% (lower than Brock’s season average). There does seem to be something to BoB opening up the playbook for Savage. These numbers don’t necessarily prove anything because Savage kept those 4 drives alive by converting 1st downs and we were playing from behind. But at the same time, 5 of the 8 series for Brock this season led to points on those drives and these 8 drives include games where we were playing from behind. There has been ample opportunities to call this kind of game for Brock but it didn’t happen all year.It crossed my mind that O'Brien was opening up the playbook yesterday with Savage in order to show the front office what his guy is capable of doing.

According to some Jaguars defenders, the Texans offense did not change much when Savage entered the game, however the accuracy improved and the offense took a step as a group.
“When (Tom) Savage came in, he was throwing the ball very accurately,” said Jaguars linebacker Paul Poluszny. ”He was putting the ball in some tight windows, finding his open receivers. Have to give a lot of credit to him. He stepped in and made the throws that he needed to make.”
They ran the same plays with Savage they ran with Brock:

Savage just knows the offense better and can make all the throws while Brock is limited. Notice it felt like the o line got better with Savage? Im betting thats because Savage called out protections better than Brock did as well

I’m NOT making this point to make excuses for Brock (clearly things worked better w/ Savage). But rather to say that there does seem to be something to BoB opening up the play calling for Savage in a way that he hasn’t for Brock all year. I think BoB probably felt more confident in Savage’s ability to get done what he wanted and when the pass started working, he went back to it. But he did this in a way that he hasn’t w/ Brock all year even when Brock was playing at his best. Adding my speculation to yours, it seems that BoB wanted to draw a contrast in qb play w/ Savage and show the world that the team’s offensive problems this year aren’t on him but on Brock and that his decision to bench Brock was the right one.
I’m hoping BoB feels the ongoing need to validate his decision and continues to open up the passing game – if so (and Savage can continue where he left off) we might just have a chance at something this year.
I know it was just one play, but still, I swear there was a play where Savage stood flat-footed and didn't move an inch for a solid two seconds with the ball in his hands. No shuffling, dancing, moving lower body around. Literally just stood there not moving while going through progressions.

He has confidence in his pocket awareness because he knows he can get rid of the ball. But I hope he doesn't push his luck. He could possibly have Aaron Rodgers' quick release, but we don't want to find out if he also has Rodgers' propensity to break a collar bone.
I'm sure that in an overall sense that this is the case and it's why Savage is now playing. My point was only to say that BoB called a different game w/ Savage -- even with Savage being as unproven as Brock, BoB stuck with the pass. Brock never had a game called where he threw the ball 5 times in a row more than once and Savage had it happen 5 times in 2 1/2 quarters. The majority of times that Brock did have this many pass plays called in a row were to end the half or game when we were behind.Maybe the playbook just got closed a little more each week when they started figuring out what Brock was about, inaccuracy, can't put the ball where it needs to be, late delivery, staring down receivers, etc.

Agreed, but I have to wonder about his mental state. He got progressively worse. His confidence was shot and I believe his disagreements with OB and the playcalling led to his tentative play. He seemed to be thinking and forcing instead of playing and having fun.
I think he's a better QB than he showed here. Not greatly better, and turnover prone in any case. But better than a 13 pt a game offense qb
And the inaccuracy is his biggest flaw .... He just doesn't even seem to put the ball where it needs to be , its just a little bit off .... one direction or another. He throws it in the general direction of the right guy the majority of the time , just not where the right guy can catch the damn thing. I just don't believe that is something that can be fixed ....

Maybe, but it's not the first time Miller has been hurt this season.A large part of that was because Miller was hurting
I think what I noticed the most about when Savage came in was the Jaguars backed out of the box and off of the receivers somewhat.
I can't wait to see what the playbook looks like Saturday - just imagine, they can run AND throw at will and use their tricks to keep defenses on their toes.I'm sure that in an overall sense that this is the case and it's why Savage is now playing. Brock always looks overwhelmed out there. I've often wondered if O'Brien's complicated offense and pressure to make so many reads at the LOS is too much for him to mentally process.
Kubiak had a much more simplified scheme by design. Rosenfels had a great radio interview awhile back that we've posted before, and he explains how easy it is to learn and manage. I'm wondering if Brock looked so much better in 2015 because that offense scheme just fit him better than O'Brien's scheme.
Yep, I agree completely. And I'm not sure if accuracy is something that can really be fixed at the pro level. Many of his throws are way off. Some in the dirt, others way over receivers head, and often many are well behind the receiver. He rarely hits his target in stride, which we immediate saw Savage doing when he came into the game.
Good points. O'Brien has repeated made the statement that they start players based on what is best for the TEAM, not any other factors. He has repeated this at least four different times after the game in press conferences and interviews, and honestly it felt like he was saying it to make a point more than just "coach speak" for fans. It is my opinion that he is telling his bosses about the way things should be on a football team, not necessarily the way it has been with this organization this season.
Good find, man. That quote by the Jaguars player is very telling. So basically what we saw was just a more confident and more capable QB when Savage came in. Amazing how much different that looked when compared to the below average QB play we've seen with Brock all season.
It's what we all hoped for to start the season. Whether it works out the way that we're hoping is going to depend on Savages play and BoB's play calling. But there's reason for hope now.I can't wait to see what the playbook looks like Saturday - just imagine, they can run AND throw at will and use their tricks to keep defenses on their toes.
I like the way Savage hung in the pocket without the happy feet we saw from Osweiler and picked up blitzes WITH completions.
This will force defenses to take this o seriously - no more lazy stacking the box.
Brock knows the offense but he's too inaccurate to run it at a NFL level.
The org hasn't been run right for yrs. My biggest complaint is letting people play when they shouldn't be playing due to injuries. If you're injured and make alot of $$$$, if you can walk you're going to be forced to play. See: JJ, Clownet, Cushing etc....
I do like the fact that BOB put his job on the line by playing Savage against McNair's/Smith's wishes for the betterment of the team. That took stones, it's one of the things that got Kubiak fired.
The Jags player just confirmed what many Texans fans have been thinking all yr.

Sorry, no one forced JJ to play. If anything, he downplayed the extent of his injury so that he could keep playing. JJ sitting out this year is mainly on JJ.
Players will always play if the Dr.'s let them and and it is my belief upper mgmt puts pressure on the Dr.'s to say it's ok for the players to play

Its happening!!
What you just said doesn't address what I said. JJ downplayed his injuries to the medical staff so that he could keep playing. Just like he downplayed his recovery time after surgery in the off season so that he could get back sooner. And we see where that got him. I'm LOLing that you think ANYONE forced JJ to do anything he didn't want to do.
That's far from forcing them to play
I do believe they forced Clowney to play his rookie yr on a hurt knee and this resulted in him needing a microfracture surgery.
O'Brien addressed this in his presser yesterday. Flat out stating he wants Savage to improve on speed.

When Savage entered the game, I watched the passes. There is a clear difference in his mechanics versus BO. My question is how can the Texans QB coach not address BO mechanics sooner? Was it really a concern or did BO get injured and we are unaware of it? Savage showed he can complete down field passes coming off the bench, hopefully a week of practice reps will help him with timing and rhythm on Saturday. I am cautiously optimistic.
BOB was referring to getting the play in, getting it called, breaking the huddle and snapping the ball in a timely manner. He was not referring to his release.
Tom Savage Now Demanding That Osweiler Call Him “Peyton”
Brock Osweiler has lost his job for the second December in a row, and now his bad week is only getting worse: replacement Tom Savage is demanding that Osweiler call him “Peyton”.
“Keeping a starting job in the NFL requires a certain amount of psychological warfare,” explained Savage, terrifying every reporter in the room. “If I can get inside Brock’s head and convince him that he’s having the same exact experience that he had last year, then he’ll fall in line and stay on the bench – just like last year.”
Savage is pulling out all the stops, having already adopted Peyton Manning’s Louisiana accent, despite being from Pennsylvania. He’s also taken to sneaking up behind Osweiler and screaming “Omaha!” at the top of his lungs whenever possible.
“He’s taking it really far,” complained Osweiler. “Like, did he have to call up Papa John and bring him into the locker room? I hate that guy…he’s just so… sweaty, like all the time.”

Yeah, O'Brien also said part of that was on him. He and Godsey need to get the plays called faster and relayed into Savage quicker than they did against the Jags. That way Savage has more time to call it in the huddle and make adjustments, when necessary, at the line.Thats what I was referring to, not his release. He let the play clock run down to zero quite a bit and as someone on twitter pointed out it almost looked like he was intentionally doing it.
we might have to change the title of this thread....There's some funny ass **** on that site.
LINKTom Savage is the Houston Texans quarterback for the time being, and his teammates have already embraced him by giving him the nickname “Not Brock Osweiler.”
“We’ve been calling him Not Brock Osweiler because our last quarterback was a guy named Brock Osweiler and Tom is not him,” explained wide receiver DeAndre Hopkins.
Not Brock Osweiler Savage says that he is happy with the nickname and that it really makes him feel like a part of the team, sort of. “I was kinda hoping they would do something with my last name, because that’s already pretty cool,” he said. “But I guess you don’t get to choose your nickname.”

You left out the best part. O'Brien's fake comments were hilarious.
