Preseason...Game 3...Arizona Cardinals!!!

JamTex

Hall Of Fame Texans Fan!
On Sunday August 28th at 3 pm in NRG Stadium, the Texans will take on the Cardinals.
The game will be aired locally on FOX 26.
This will be the tune up game for the regular season.
The coaches will formulate a game plan.
The players will practice according to that game plan.
We will get to see Osweiler and the first unit as much as 3 quarters.
The devastating power of this incredible defense.
Clowney, Covington, Cushing and Mercilus showed why they should be feared.
The Texans will be taking on an NFC power house in Bruce Arians, Carson Palmer and the elite offensive and defensive units that are considered Super Bowl candidates.
This will be a real test.
Let's hope Brock is a true student of the game and shows at least as much improvement from game 2 to game 3 as he did from game 1 to game 2.
If this happens, the Texans could possibly pick up an upset at home against the Cardinals.

GO TEXANS!!!

Can i at least talk a nap between games jam? Did you see today's game thread with depth charts, refs, etc? That's how you do it. I don't wanna slight your enthusiasm but damn.

I post my weekly game thread right after the previous game. I base it on what we saw this game vs what the other team brings to the table. It gives us a week to discuss the game. It's not a game day thread. It's a weekly discussion and prediction thread. Post your thoughts on last week, Post your thoughts on what you think will happen this week. What ever you want.
I do this on HT.com and have for the past 6 years. I'm gonna start the tradition here. Just enjoy.

Considering much worse threads have been posted before, I am willing to roll with this personally.

Fair enough. Much worse threads HAVE been started. Im now tempted to start a January 1st game day thread against the tits.

I was enjoying this thread much more as "St Louis Cardinals".
You mean the internet hijackers of the Astros highly secretive information? The ones that tried to hack the Astros computers and got caught?
I have to ask. How long will it be before Belicheat is caught doing this? lol

Ok. After looking at the Cardinals, their offense isn't showing the same propensity to move the ball that got them into the play offs last year.
Against a "middle of the pack" Chargers defense, Carson Palmer and company were almost unable to move the ball. Palmer threw a pick 6.
If this offense shows up here against this Texans defense, the Cardinals offense will get beaten up on.
The thing to watch will be if Osweiler and company can move the ball against that stout Cardinals defense.
Their defense is much better then the 49er's and Saints defenses.
Will the pieced together offensive line in front of Osweiler be able to protect him, give him time to make reads and get passing lanes open? Will they be able to open up running lanes for L. Miller and company?
Again, the question will be the O-line and Brock's improvement level.
We will see in 6 more days.

This will also be the third preseason game. Expect some game planning. Defenses will be mixing zone with man coverage, also dog blitzes & combination coverages.

Looks like Mancz will need to prepare to be the starting center for the foreseeable future since there is a good possibility Martin will be out at least 8 games due to the high ankle sprain that more then likely will require surgery to repair it.
Hopefully he can be designated for return and not have to be out the whole season.

...Hopefully he can be designated for return and not have to be out the whole season.

The league changed the injured reserve with return designation so that you no longer have to designate the player ahead of time. Teams are still only allowed to bring one player back, but they can bring back any one player they've placed on injured reserve as long as he was on IR for at least 6 six weeks.

I wish for all that's holy that they'd study collegiate injury history and avoid drafting these ornaments with a list of repairs that reaches across the river and into the trees. If I were in charge I wouldn't touch anybody who had sustained a torn ACL.

Brock and our Oline will be tested during this game.

I think we will struggle handedly because the Cards front is very stout and we are missing three starters.

Now we will have to get the ball out quickly, plenty of legal rub screens for the relievers and screen plays for the Running backs.

Defense: I think we will hold our own.

I like how Brock and the skill players are progressing.

If JD plays like he can I think our D will be decent even without Watt.

Still concerned with TE's, I like Anderson, wish he was bigger.

The Oline scares the crap out of me.

So, you don't think Bergstrom will get the job?

So, you don't think Bergstrom will get the job?
No I don't. He played 2 plays last night at right gaurd before O'brien pulled him out after the hold and put in Aboushi. He has shown that he's a swinging door for the defense to just walk through and get to the quarterback and he's a holding penalty machine. He'll likely get cut and the Texans will look for younger, better talent in the waiver wire to add to the O-line and particularly at center when teams have to start releasing players to get down to their 53.

Not an Eva Mendez among them..sigh.

I see a bit more playing time for the supposed starters including Manz and Clark; Allen will be back and coach needs to focus on right tackle if not sure when Newton to return. Left tackle Clark (shudder) and Su'a -Fila only two consistent starters.

I want to see lots of snaps by RBs not named Miller; also expect to see more of Shorts unless he already crapped shorts. Need to see more of Mumphery as he looked much better than he has in camp. I want to see a returner named before kick off game one. If Cowney plays first Q like he did game VS NO, I want him out of game 3 early to avoid injury bug.

I could've sworn I saw him in there longer than that but admit I wasn't able to pay as much attention as to who was in there on the line all the time. If he's as big a bust as you say he is then the Texans are in bad shape at Center if they loose Martin for any length of time. And, as far as picking someone off the waiver wire before the RS starts, I doubt they'll find that "younger, better talent" you're talking about. Usually only old washed up players or young, lesser talented players are the ones that get cut, but I do agree they will have to look if they cut Bergstrom. Right now I just hope Martin's injury isn't that bad and that Mancz's play improves enough until Martin gets back. This is basically Mancz's rookie year since he was on PS/IR all of last year.

OB seems to be OK with Mancz. He's quoted in the Chron as "having a solid night". He did get man-handled on one play by Farly, giving up a sack. But OB also said he "held his own quite a bit against their front." I remember that sack and thinking that Nick Farly is a pretty good player. Anyone have a comment on the caliber of player Farley is? As commented by Doc, the key with Mancz is a wait and see how his post surgery knee and shoulder holds up. If he stays healthy I think we will be solid at center. Bergstrom has not distinguished himself, but I don't think he can be cut at this stage of training. If Mancz does not hold up, we need experience at the position and Bergstrom is all we have.

2 is an exaggeration. He wasn't in long before he was yanked. O'brien got him out quick right after a holding call on him and played Aboushi. Aboushi did much better. Allen will be back this week against the Cardinals, so we'll be in better shape on the front line. Mancz actually did well, not perfect, but held up ok in pass blocking and did ok in run blocking. He'll get better getting all the starting reps now. Let's hope he holds up and doesn't get hurt. If that happens, the Texans are in trouble in the middle of the line.

Lil bro coming to town....probably not going to play since it's the 3rd pre season game but if he does that will be the only time I will ever sincerely root for another player on another team to win their match ups against a Texans' player.

That's pretty cool, xtru. Post his # if you don't mind. I'd cheer him on too

Cardinal players who've been out returning to practice today...

Larry Fitzgerald
Tyrann Mathieu
Robert Nkemdiche
John Brown
Frostee Rucker
Justin Bethel

I didn't remember thinking Mancz was manhandled on that play, so... I just watched it again & my memory was right. XSF got beat by Farley. Mancz & Bregstrum doubled the NT. Farley lined up as the 3 tech on the strong side. XSF initially has him blocked, but Farley's hands are so quick & strong, a swim move to the inside & Mancz is standing in front of a freight train. Only so much you could do at that point.

My first thought also, then realized we don't have experience with Manz nor would we with Martin. I wonder if Bergstrom would beat out Dalton Freeman?

Seegara, do you honestly think they don't look at a college players injury history?? I'd bet they have access to far better sources and have much more qualified opinions on these matters than you or I.

Good morning Texans fans! Just 5 more days until the Cardinals come to town against our Texans.
Their D will really challenge the Texans offense.
This game will give us an idea how O'brien game plans against another team.
Let's hope Mancz takes another step towards improvement. He will be very important to the success of the offensive line.
With Allen back, protection will be better, but the Cardinals front 7 are very good. The O-line will be seriously challenged.
Osweiler needs to continue his improvement and show what he learned from the Saints game.
I think the Texans will show up and we will see the offense open up just a little more.
The Texans defense should feast on the Cardinals offense.

ROCK AND ROLL TEXANS! ! !

Didn't go so well for BoB in his first preseason matchup against the Cardinals.

Maybe we can wait for Arians to go take a leak and then chloroform him.
A couple of weeks in a "Clockwork Orange" type of reprogramming
effort and he might be coerced into believing he is our coach..

We could put a fake beard on Godsey and send him over to their sideline
and maybe they won't notice the switcheroo..

Worth a shot..

Ok Texans fans. We have just 3 more days until the showdown against the Cardinals at 3:25 PM on Sunday. Yes, the time was changed. We don't know why, but it was changed from 3 PM to 3:25 pm. So make sure you tune into FOX 26 Sunday afternoon to catch all of the pregame and watch the kick off. Don't miss it my fellow Texans fans!

LLLLLLET"S GET READY TO RRRRRRRRRUMBLLLLLLLE!!!

GO TEXANS!!!

WE GONNA WIN!
Your probably going to be terribly disappointed. This game has the potential to be a severe beat down.
Our offensive line is in complete disarray.
Pass Protection and the Run Game will suffer.
Oz and the rooks are still learning the playbook and route timing
The Defense has been average, at best.

This could get ugly!!

Actually, the defense was outstanding last week. They only allowed 57 yards of total offense in the first half. Or did you forget that fact?

Not forgotten, but the Saints are terrible on both sides of the ball. The Cardinals will take advantage of our terrible tackling skills and the poor play from our safetys. Thank god it's only preseason.
