2nd Round, Pick 50, Nick Martin, C

I like the pick as center has been an issue for us. I must admit that Ben Jones was my choice in hid draft so hope for better results.

So what's up with his knee?
Paging Dr. CND

Martin played center most of his Notre Dame career. But in 2014, Martin switched to guard while he dealt with torn thumb ligaments in his snapping hand and while he was still dealing with the lingering effects of ACL knee surgery he suffered in November 2013. His knee resulted in apparent limitations in 2014. Last year, he returned to center in 2015, but never regained preinjury mobility and agility, thus leaving him a better pass protector than a run blocker. This could reflect the athletic requirements of a zone blocking system. I've heard reasoning that he would take a full 2 years before a regaining the limits of his return. However, he was well past 2 years post surgery last season. His Combine was not all that impressive and he opted to skip participating in his Pro Day . Despite this, he was still ranked by many as the 2nd best center in the Draft. We'll have to see if in the stiffer competition presented in the NFL, he is able to overcome his limitations of movements and return to his 2013 agility level.

three picks left to get LT, DE/DT/NT and ?

Guys I like: LT Beavers, Murphy, Drango and Haeg (whom everyone seems to have forgotten).
Ridgeway and Reader can play each dline and Latham and Antwaun Woods (I like his story) are pure Nose that could be depth. It is possible we keep what we have and draft a starter or two in 2017 for defensive line.

I like RB Keith Marshall 5'11" 219 4.31 and SS Trae Elston 70 tackles, 4 INTs two of which were TDs and 14 passes broken up.

This draft and offseason leads me to believe he has had his nuts cut and isn't the one running this draft at all.. this draft reminds me of when Kubiak came in and Casserley was just a figure head. You can't see that? This is obviously Bill O'brien's show

You can see this in the type of players that have been picked. Speed, never had that in a decade of Smithiak. High priority on interior OL, XSF/Martin/Allen, never had that either. Pretty sure BOB is getting what he wants.

This is worrisome. But I watched quite a few Irish games and Martin looked pretty good to me. Good movement skills/strong, sometimes he lunged at moving targets but not alot of the time. This happens sometimes, it's not necessarily a weakness in his game.

The NFL will test that knee thoroughly. We will know soon how well it stands up to maximum stress and how much it may or may not affect his play.

"I know you would like for her to be in that position, but the ankle injury Megan suffered while filming Teenage Ninja Mutant Turtles would have a high probability of recurrence at that angle. Which could impact her ability to regain post injury performance."

I gave it a shot.

Lol

I think CnD needs to examine her.

Just an additional note........Martin was also dealing with an ankle sprain issue during the latter part of the season.

actually had him ahead of Kelly..a soft spoken, finesse guy
scout personality and great olinemen are arrogant/egotistical with a mean streak..Martin is. love is interviews/demeanor

my write up
Nick Martin 6'4 296 2nd Notre Dame easily handles power, smart road grader with long arms, quick feet and vision to excel in pass pro. Senior bowl. Day 1 starter Zack Martins brother

"He'll start off at center."-O'Brien on Martin. But also said he liked Martin's ability to play guard.

Can't help feeling just a tiny bit of this...

also at over 6'4 and solid short times could easily play guard

She's a gamer. I think she'd get it taped up and play through the pain

Where is his right pointer finger??
It's there with a mouth guard between it and his thumb. The top surface of his index finger has fuzzy black circles overlapping it.......likely a poor Photoshop attempt to place him against a new solid background. Sort of a strange pic to choose.............holding a mouth guard.

So we know Billy is saying nothing about JD, but what about our rookie center Martin ? We still don't know his status after he's missed several days of practice but they have him as the starter @ center in the first DC ?

No information is being released on Martin. While we're waiting, trying to figure out what the most likely problem he might be dealing with, it may be worthwhile to revisit my post back on April 29th:

O'Brien in a limited news update says Martin is out with a "back issue" and will be back practicing with the team next week. Said JD has some knee soreness.

Despite overall good performance last year, Martin has been reported to have been dealing with mobility limitations from his 2013 ACL even through last year. If still ongoing, he could easily end up with compensatory issues of the core (which of course includes the back). Let's hope that all of these issues are a thing of the past once the season begins.:)

No. Just hopeful.

Let's hope Martin is just dealing with thightness in his back as has been reported and not a disc issue.

This guy looked extremely bad yesterday. He better start to improve or we can chalk this one up to another bad OL pick. I have been saying it since preseason, he is very weak at the point of attack. He is constantly getting pushed backwards.

He's been out for over a year.
I'd give him a little time yet.
