The Actual And Real 2016 Texans' Talk Mock Draft Extravaganza

Ok I pulled over. This is the perfect opportunity to bring in smith's eventual backup. Paxton lynch is the perfect fit. Needs time to learn behind a good vet. Having said that with the Houston situation drafting a future QB is a luxury they can't afford at this spot. The KC Chiefs pick Emanuel Ogbah DE/OLB.

You knew I was just joking about the second being up thing, right? I didn't mean for you to pull over. We could have waited. Well, maybe not WolverineFan, but the rest of us could have waited.

With the 22nd pick in the 2016 NFL draft, YOUR Houston Texans select:

Andrew Billings

Arizona selects Paxton Lynch - QB, Memphis

Cardinals could go a lot of ways here. They are a championship contender that could go BPA at an impact position to put them over the edge, but they can't pass on the opportunity to land their possible future franchise QB. Lynch is raw and has some holes in his game, but this is a situation where he would come in and sit behind Carson Palmer for a year or two. With Bruce Arians coaching him, perhaps those holes can be ironed out and he can reach his full potential.

love this pick, partially because Ive been saying all offseason I could see Arians grabbing his QB of the future this draft, and partially because it keeps him away from Denver lol

With the loss of Alex Mack, the Cleveland Browns need a replacement to keep their shiny new QB sufficiently protected. Corey Coleman was seriously considered and Robert Nkemdiche was the ideal pick, but Ryan Kelly is still a great way for them to go.

Nice pick. I was hoping he was going to fall to me (the Colts), but I doubted he'd drop that far.

With the 2nd pick of the second round the Tennessee Titans select

CB- Eli Apple- THE Ohio State U

Since Arizona went long range QB planning ... with 1.31 the Denver Broncos select Robert Nkemdiche, DT Mississippi

I was thinking earlier that Nimdeche would be a great replacement for Jackson. His ability to penetrate even if he misses just makes Ware and Miller even tougher. Then I remembered oh yeh, WEED is LEGAL and EASILY AVAILABLE in Denver. So I said to myself **** that!

Really like this pick, I'm confused as to why people are not up for this pick for Texans or think it's unrealistic. 2 years gives Osweiler a shot and if he doesn't pan out we have Ynch primed for a shot. Or if Brock works out, you look at your trading options. Only downside is that you miss the production and development of another player that could have been chosen there, who is likely to be a lot less valuable if they pan out (assuming Lynch pans out).

I'd be fine with it but not in the first round

Difference is Arizona is a legitimate title contender with very few weaknesses and can afford the luxury of using a high pick on their future QB. The Texans are still building and need those top picks to continue building as a contender. Also, Palmer is 36 years old. Drafting a protege for a 36 year old is way different than drafting a backup plan for a 26 year old.

Well with what we have been through since Schaub went south and the obvious difficulty in obtaining a quality QB, I wouldn't have problem with it. People said Washington was crazy for drafting RG 111 and Cousins in the same draft. Turned out not so crazy.

I wouldn't curse Rick Smith's or O'Brien's names if we went with Lynch, but I'm not sure it's the right strategy for where we are.

With all the problems we've had in securing The Guy over the years, hedging your bets isn't a bad strategy. OTOH, making our current team stronger for the guy we just took a shot on is probably a better one.

So essentially the strategy should be just don't draft anyone who sucks (or a punter)!

Just a gr8 job by everyone so far. Big props to cak for handling the picks summary thread in Blake's absence.

Tom Savage is our Kirk Cousins. What you're suggesting is like drafting Colin Kaepernick in the 2nd after drafting Cam in the first.

The thing with Mallett & Hoyer showed me O'b couldn't handle a competition that close. We ended up with nothing.

What?

I couldn't disagree more with this. I'm not even sure I understand it.

I think Cousins was more result of a power struggle than any draft strategy.

I understand it and agree with it to a point. But I wouldn't take Lynch in the 1st for entirely different reasons

In regards to the close QB competition, they both were poor players. I don't understand how the handling of the close competition is any indication of how OB would handle literally anything else.

That situation seems straight forward to me. Hoyer better practice habits, earns job. He sucks, go to backup who is only slightly worse. Backup sucks and is worse in practice. Back to original starter. Straight forward.

That situation has zero bearing on how I view OB's approach to anything.

Meh, I don't know about that. They needed a backup, I think he was drafted to be that, with also a shot to be a future starter if things went awry with Griffin.

Either way, intention doesn't mean a lot to the subject at hand. That strategy worked for them.
