Sam Bradford/Tom Savage

...You actually expect Rick Smith to trade up? I doubt it, I can almost guarantee the "we don't need a star QB" mentality continues because of the Broncos winning the Super Bowl. The front office is THAT stupid...
Trading up takes two teams; it's impossible to say with certainty that a trade will come together. But yes, this year there will be a serious effort to trade up if the QB is there.

I don't know about that. So far, I get the feel that while the "experts" may feel this class is slightly better than 2014, it is only slightly.

Not a lot for offensive talent overall. Deep in defensive prospects.

I still think there's a good chance Cleveland don't go QB.

That would be great news! But, I've been let down so much over the years that I have absolutely ZERO confidence in our GM making any type of move to get us what we actually need. Therefore, I'm expecting us to get a defensive lineman, or running back (best case scenario) not that we don't need one, I believe we need two good ones!

That is way more guaranteed money than I expected. Unless it is extremely front-loaded I will have to change my mind and agree with you.

I'm hearing it is extremely front loaded. Something like $22M in the first year, so they could cut him & take a $4M hit in dead money, saving something like $12M... something like that. So yeah, not exactly married. But to pay him that kind of money, surely they're optimistic about what he can do & they're hoping he can be their man.

IMO, 2014 had much better depth at QB than 2016.

Optimistic or desperate? Kinda like Cousins getting the franchise tag.

Bradford has always impressed with his physical ability. It's been constant injuries that keep him from breaking through. So I wouldn't be surprised if the new staff would rather take a risk on him than a rookie.

I wouldn't expect them to go looking for a QB in the draft. But with that contract, I think they would still take one if the right guy ended up in their lap. So I wouldn't say that the risk to us is entirely removed.

I'd trade for Brian Hoyer before I pay either of those two, what they're getting paid, if I didn't feel good about them being an above average starter over the next two years. & that's what I see with Bradford's deal. The Eagles think he can be the guy, but they don't want to lock him up without a prove it year.

Agreed. If I were them, I'd adjust my sights lower.... targeting a QB in the 4th or later. But yes. The right guy falls to them in the first, I could see them pulling the trigger.

Bradford is getting $22M guaranteed but apparently $18M of that guaranteed money is in year 1. He could be cut if he flops this year.

No they said they want to follow the Aaron Rodgers model of grooming a young guy behind a vet. So I could definitely see them taking one still early maybe not rd 1, but no later then rd 3

Translation: if you want one of the top QB's pay up sucker!

I think this draft is also full of guys who if they get a year or two to sit and learn could eventually be really good. Not many of them are ready to come in day 1 and compete

Gee, that was the same thing a lot of people were saying about Savage.

So, at the end of the day, are you drafting a QB to truly develop or are you drafting a back up that you can turn into future draft picks, ala NE?

If im a team like Dallas its both. You want a guy to develop and take over for when Romo is done, but if Romo is still playing at a high level when the kids contract is almost up you trade him.

I think, & always thought, Savage needs to be on the field. I liked his mechanics, his timing, his anticipation & the improvement we saw in him over the course of his senior season.

He's got enough physical talent to play this game, my only question is about how much he can develop from the neck up.

Two years on the bench... I hope it helped, but he needs to get on the field & play.

Bob has given him that opportunity in Indy two years ago, and I believe had he not got hurt that OB would have rolled with him in the next game.

Bob has given him that opportunity extensively in the pre-season last year, and ended up on IR. Again, I have no doubt that he would have given the nod to Savage and not brought in the other guys after Hoyer started getting his bell rung.

Savage is missing opportunities to get on the field and play that are practically being laid at his feet, because he can't stay healthy.

I like the kid. I like his tools, I like his dedication to the game. I like that he has cool name and looks like Nick Cage. But I always need to remember that he was a 4th round pick that needed developing, and that the odds are not ever in his favor for becoming a franchise QB. Especially when he can't stay on the field. If he does develop onto something then great, but OB can't continue this project/reclamation thing he has going on and needs to invest in the position. If Savage turns out to be something THIS year (no more down the road), then the team now has talent equity (either Savage or high draft pick) to address other needs. Otherwise, time to move on.
