I'll be happy if the Texans commit to investing in a QB that they feel can be the future. I have no idea who will pan out and who won't, and I won't act like I will. What I want to see from this administration is a commitment to acquiring and developing a starter at the position that isn't a FA castoff. It's time to take a shot at it and move to make that acquisition the leading man.

We all know where everyone stands on our belief that this group can get that done, but we all agree that they need to try. If they approach this offseason assuming we are better off addressing QB in a later offseason, I'll be more than ready to part ways.

That's all I can say for sure.

So, to which are you moving on to? I'm just asking because you can pretty much forget about any of those guys taking us anywhere since our inept front office probably won't address our sorry O-line, RB, or TE position anytime soon. They're more worried about creating all this cap space, ignoring all the gaping holes all over the team. Rick Smith and O'Brien are a match made in heaven!

I remember that interview he did when Bill O'Brien left Penn State to coach the Houston Texans. He had a lot of admiration for O'Brien. It would be cool to see the two reunite but we'll see. A lot of options out there.

I'm not going to engage in a Rick Smith debate here. I will say that I believe that if we get a solid QB prospect in this draft, it will be much easier for this FO to provide a consistent contender to us fans.

If not, we are looking at a situation in which many fans will start to turn away from the Texans for their entertainment.

What I worry about Hack if he's the pick is

1. Accuracy, it bothers me as a freshman he completed only 59% of his passes.
2. He's had the crap beaten out of him and I wonder if he has the HWNSNBM syndrome.

You should be able to watch Hack play & determine if he has HWNSNBM. Is he scared? That was Carr's problem. All the competitiveness had been beaten out of him. That fear caused him to hold the ball & take a sack instead of trying to make a play, or giving his receivers a chance to make a play.

He only took high percentage throws which lead to higher completion numbers.

I don't think Hackenberg plays scared, or that he's given up on trying to become better.

Coach's sons are smarter? More educated I could see.

I saw that quote - said something like fastest to pick it up. Didn't mean much imo since Hack was either the 1st or 2nd QB he ever tried to teach...bum, ba, da, dummmm...'the system.'

Not saying he isn't smart. His play doesn't reflect any special benefit from it.

Surprised you didn't have a comment on my playing time for rookies remarks. I should clarify, the exception would be riding a solid starter into what could be a playoff run - but the Texans ain't there.

I'm for playing whoever the new QB is as soon as possible, but I dont want him forced out there because he's the new shiny toy and he's not ready to play.

Agreed. If the only way he knows how to protect himself is to run into a sack, he doesn't need to be out there.

IMO, he needs to be able to get the ball out on time. He needs to know how to recognize his hot reads, & he can't be afraid to throw the ball away. If... he ends up throwing the ball away too frequently (never making a play, moving the chains, or beating a blitz) then he didn't need to be out there.

Of course, if we happen to get a guy like Wentz or Prescott & he can escape the pocket & make plays like Newton or Wilson, I'd be fine with that as well. But you can't teach that.

I disagree about a rookie QB must be starting game one. That's unreasonable.

Positives

1. He's got every measurable a franchise QB could ever want and is as talented or more talented than any QB in this draft.
2. He's a smart guy
3. He has a basic rudimentary knowledge of the offense

What are Hack's positives/negatives in your eyes?
to clarify I did not say all rookies should start game one just Hack. My point was Hack should not be draft #22 (or any other round) but if OBrien does select him, he should think he is franchise and play immediately.

wouldn't that be the case if he selects any qb other than goff/wentz at #22?

yep except maybe Lynch who I watched a lot. I probably would not grumble if he was the pick. Look someone said earlier Hack was 59 percent as a rookie. True 58.9 but has gone down last two seasons; to say that all was because of line is silly. We don't give Hoyer that leniency.

Just wanting clarification of your comment. I think if we invest in any qb with our #1 he should be starting, unless we bring in a solid (far above Hoyer level) vet for the rookie to learn from

I don't think it matters who we take. If O'b thinks we can win with another QB then we play the other QB. If O'b thinks the rookie gives us a better shot at winning, then we go with the rookie.

In our case, we've seen O'b win with ultra conservative play from the QB position. Fitz with Foster. He also knows he can compete with avg teams with a rough running game & a more proactive approach from the QB... Hoyer, Mallett, Weeden, Tj

I can see O'b starting with Savage & getting his young QB experience at the end of the half, or the end of games... But is we fall behind early, 0-3 to start the season, going with the rookie & seeing what happened.

Wait, you could see OB starting Savage, and also having a rookie come in on spot duty at the end of halves?

I'm not sure I have ever seen that, obviously unless a team is winning by a lot or losing by alot.

Feed Savage to the wolves this year... Sink or float.....
I'd love for Savage to be let loose this season to show us what he's got, but O'Brien doesn't seem to know what the heck he wants out of a QB! Chances are, Hoyer and Savage battle it out in practice, Hoyer wins because he's the Brady of practice fields and "knows the system." I see Savage coming in once Hoyer goes down, maybe even winning us crucial games, just to be benched once Humpty Dumpty recovers. I see a repeat of 2014, 9-7 no south title. (Best case)

I think there is 0 chance Hoyer starts game 1 next year. If he's on the team it will be as veteran backup to Savage or the rookie (and there will be a rookie).
