I am a Texans homer, but I'm not a crack head or
one who indulges in delusions of grandeur...

We need more juice than the Ark of the Covenant possesses
for this team (as constructed) to win a Super Bowl..

Please lay out the major deficiencies other than QB?

RB - major deficiency.
pass catcher - need at least one more legitimate threat, whether that be TE or WR.

DL - Need one really stout DL. Doesn't have to be a sack generator, but someone that doesn't get pushed back and lets the LBs (hahahahaha) do their job.
LB - There aren't any. Cushing is JAG at this point, and no one else is even as good as him. I'm including Mercilus and Clowney at the DL group, in case you're wondering, and though there are issues there, I don't yet see them as major (well, Clowney is, but wth).
Safety - still need one. Best safety the team has ever had was probably Glover Quin? Maybe? Kinda sad.

STs - a returner. OMG please give us a returner.

I see no reason the Texans can't go QB and then RB, OT, DT in some order with the next 3 picks.

LB - D was playing well enough 2nd half of the season and McKinney will be in his 2nd year.

So safety and ILB I see as tolerable or can be upgraded in free agency.

Pass catcher - Strong should come along. Mumphery too. I figure TEs will contribute with a new QB/OB pulling his head out.

I don't like having dedicated returnees but someone needs to do a decent job.

.500 is the easy prediction give or take one game. Our division had a bad year. I don't expect luck to repeat last season and bortles as well as mariota should get better.

In the meantime guys like Joseph, Cushing, wilfork, watt, dbrown are a year older. Maybe guys step up...maybe we have a great draft and free agent signings? It just looks to me like our "core" players got older faster then theirs. It's to early to tell (lets revisit in may.) Ob, special teams, and D have to prove a lot to carry our offense.

If history is any indication, we'll have an early season slump - come back competitive - and finish in the conversation. We're not ready to dominate.

We are pretty much on our way to swapping places with the Jaguars and Titans. We'll be the laughing stock of the AFC. (Now that almost all of the teams have a franchise QB.) Both teams should start making noise in the not so distant future.

OB is 13-5 after Week 7. Really makes you wonder why it takes his teams so long to get going each season.

You are equating too many "improvements" as the season progressed to victories over
very weak AFC south teams.

30-0 in the playoffs is a better metric for how the team played.

In addition to all of the spots mentioned above (RB, #2WR, TE, LB, KR, etc.)
I believe we also need another quality OL (or DQ to return healthy), as well as
a legitimate OC and an actual GM.

OC/GM is just as important to strengthen as any position on the field.

I'm not certain, but constantly moving olinemen around didn't help. He needs to learn "next man up" at the position that's injured. Not move A over here, B to his spot, etc. If he can't, or doesn't trust the backup for a game or two then someone's not doing their job.

Personally, I think OB and crew ruined X's rookie season by shuffling him all along the line. He might be smart but learning 5 spots in 1 season would likely be a tad overwhelming

OR, those are the teams with a tough schedule because they play US!

BOB going all Rorschach on the AFC

We need a major talent infusion on offense and Rick Smith is still the GM. That plus the 2 first place games makes me believe this team will be worse next year.

We need
QB
RB
WR speed
TE
OL

I feel the same. But hey, at least we will then have a shot at a very good player in the first round, and hopefully won't have as many positions in our offense to address. Maybe by the 2017 draft we will only be a good running back, or (good catching) tight end away from being Super Bowl contenders? I'm not assuming we will pick up our guy at QB this year, (we can swap any of those positions around) but I do hope we can address at least one or two of these crucial positions this year (along with upgrading our O-line) so we can make something happen soon, and be that much closer at being complete on offense.

But do you realistically seeing us hitting on the first 3 or four picks to where they are Starters or major contributors AND hitting on a couple free agent targets?

I guess it all really depends on how the last two draft classes develop because I'd be shocked if this draft solved 3 or four problems next season based on history.

Actually yes. Two starters are easy - QB & RB. A DT should be a significant contributor. An OT might be rotational, starter if Brown isn't ready or upgraded depth. I see that as achievable in the draft,

Don't see any reason 2-3 FAs can't be brought in among TE, WR, ILB and S for either starterside or depth.

What I'm more skeptical about is OB implementing an O deserving to be called a system.

I don't see us NOT hitting if we're to pick up (rb)Derrick Henry, (te)Hunter Henry, and the next best Offensive linemen along with picking up a steal at WR. I went with Derrick Henry cause there's no way we could get Hunter Henry if we got Ezekiel Elliot, I have a feeling Derrick Henry will probably fall, which could be good for us!

I see us hitting on a 3.2 ypc back who's also no threat in the passing game if we take D Henry.

Well I'm hopeful.

I thought Covington and strong and Raheem Moore and xsf and so on would be major contributors their first years here....I thought Covington would at least provide some rotational depth on the line but seems he barely played...on the other hand Dunn came in and played well...

Seems like it's always something though....
