2015 DPOY - JJ Watt

Was this the AP? Has he won DPOY of 2015 two times now or is it three?

Unless he has an unreal season next year I think voter fatigue will kick in. Sort of how Lebron had his MVP run interrupted by Derrick rose one year.

He's got at least one more coming due to the fact he was robbed on league MVP thanks tov ESPN's darling Rogers. Oh, and he's freaking amazing, so.......

Yeah this is out of character, or a trend that seems to show him in a negative light. Usually he lets his play on the field do the talking, but in this case to lash out seems unlike him. Perhaps he is getting to big for his britches?

Sounded like humor to me, perhaps he is getting more confident. I can't imagine him saying that without a bit of laughter

Every time he's asked by anyone about the Texans fans booing him during the draft, his demeanor changes. He looks angry. I think he has a chip on his shoulder. I watched him on Dan Patrick this past week, he was told to read the negative scouting report comments from 2011 and he looked a little pissed. Maybe he's just really good at acting or it really does bother him.

There's a copy of that posted in the Random Texans News thread. Looked to me like the pizza delivery boy took it in good humor...with a side of sarcasm.

JJ watt has been caught numerous times talking spit on and off the field. Dude is not some innocent, aw sucks nice guy, but this does show that the image he has cultivated is working.

and yes he is the best football player in the NFL and damn happy he is a Houston Texan.

I just keep thinking when I see this "If even ONE OTHER PLAYER on our DL/LB's could do more than sit there and jerk off while Watt is doing these amazing things we'd have a pretty scary defense. OK, so Mercilus has gotten going but it's like the rest of them aren't even awake sometimes.

One other genuinely consistent threat would be awesome.

I was thinking something similar when they were discussing Von Miller being a FA. Of course Denver expects to be able to work something out. But I was just imagining what could be done with both he and JJ and whether it would work or if freeing one guy up comes at the expense of limiting the other.

Then I made the leap to having both AND a fully recovered Clowney and Cushing and the still improving Crick. I know that's Fantasy-land, but I also wonder how I would handle winning the lottery.

It's Von, and will never happen. You might as well dream of drafting Goff & Wentz and having Peyton as their QB coach

Thanks for the spell check. Correction made. And those (Goff, Wentz and Manning) are great additions to my Fantasy-land team.

JJ won his 3rd DPOY award but Von Miller and the Broncos Defense has set the standard for playoff performances. That was impressive. I'm sure JJ will flip this into another 20 sack performance next year. Hopefully Clowney and Mercilus can play they roles and contribute.

#3 overall defense.
#3 against the pass.
#10 against the run.
#6 in points allowed.
#10 in turnovers.
#5 in total sacks.
#9 in passer rating.
#1 in passes defended.
#1 in 3rd Down efficiency.

And how many of those categories are #1 since the Miami game? That is a defensive team effort, not just JJ, Merci and the DB's. The other DL/LB's accounted for 15 sacks, 11 PD's, 4 FF's and 24 TFL's. That's not exactly jerking off. It's good system play supporting two studs. Got to have role players.

I get what you are saying though. It just feels like such a luxury when thinking about how bad things are on the offensive side of the ball. Until something changes, Brian Freaking Hoyer is our starting QB. On purpose.

I wouldn't really call it interrupted as much as it was well deserved. Didn't the Chicago Bulls have the best record throughout the regular season that year? I believe they went 62-20 even though they eventually lost in the Eastern Conference Finals to LeBron James and the Miami Heat. That was the year the Dallas Mavericks won the NBA Finals. Tom Thibodeau had also won the coach of the year award.

I had always felt the MVP award in all three major sports usually, not always but usually, went to the best player on the best regular-season team. You didn't have to necessarily win the championship. See Cam Newton this year.

Bottom line: J.J. Watt is the best defensive player in the NFL. Even though Von Miller just won the Super Bowl MVP and is leading the best defense in the league that is being coached by our former defensive coordinator.

I actually do believe J.J. Watt was worthy of winning the league MVP last year instead of Aaron Rodgers. And up until he started having injuries and wearing that cast this past season (when he went some games without any sacks), I felt Watt was having a second straight MVP caliber year but he wasn't going to overtake Cam Newton, a quarterback, for that award.

Watt and Mercilus became the second best pass-rushing tandem, in terms of sacks, after Von Miller and DeMarcus Ware this past season. Probably could have been #1 in the league if Mercilus played more snaps earlier in the season and Watt didn't get hurt towards the end of the season. Once he wore that cast his sack totals went from league leading to non-existent for a handful of games.

And that's not even taking Jadeveon Clowney's potential into the mix. Jeez, I hope Clowney stays healthy and has a monster third year in the NFL. Our defense could become special if that happens.

All the Houston Texans need is a major upgrade at quarterback and a consistent running game in the backfield. We have a defense capable of winning the Super Bowl. I would argue our defense, when healthy, is as good as any out there. Including what the Denver Broncos and Carolina Panthers have.

There's a reason why J.J. Watt won his third "Defensive Player of the Year" award. And why he's on the cusp of being a league MVP type of player. It wouldn't shock me to see Watt win the MVP next year. I think voters will get tired of quarterbacks always winning it eventually. Especially when the last two to win it, Cam Newton and Aaron Rodgers, were exposed by great defenses in the playoffs.

Obviously we're all Texans fans but I know there's a HUGE JJ Watt fatigue around the league. He would have to do something beyond special for him to win league MVP, much less DPOY. If it's close between him and someone else for DPOY, I fully expect the other player to get it.

You guys should see what my Fantasy-Land defense looks like with time-travel "back from beyond the grave" Reggie White playing on that line too.

Break the sack record. Texans in the playoffs. That should do it.

I'm taking the under on J.J.'s numbers this season. Kate Hudson is a succubus who ruins careers. :evilb:
I prefer to consider the step father's and take some level of comfort that there's going to be a difference between J.J./Kate, and Harden/Khloe.

It's a longshot, but I'm clinging to it.

Nothing wrong about a song singing about hope. Who better than Texans fans needing hope? Now backwards? I would get vertigo..

It's a reference to a Southpark episode where the boys have to defeat a succubus by singing Morning After backwards.

A very solid reference.

A buddy of A-Rod’s says: “He’s in the middle of baseball season, yet he’s trying to wine and dine Kate… the two don’t go together very well.”

According to a friend, Kate is known for commanding a man’s attention and getting him to bend to her whims – even it it’s not in his best interest. “Guys become addicted to her,” says the friend. But trouble follows after men date Kate.

In August 2007, Owen Wilson attempted suicide after their split. Two months after breaking up with Kate, cyclist Lance Armstrong was questioned about using performance-enhancing drugs (he tested clean). Kate’s ex-husband, rocker Chris Robinson broke up with his band and broke his hand after falling in love with her.

I wish it wasn't so funny if it wasn't actually scary.
J.J. Watt had his fun on a dinner date. End it there!

All this talk of J.J. Watt retiring early from the NFL, at the same time he dates Kate Hudson... Coincidence? Hmm...

I mean damn, even A-Rod's career went down south in a hurry after dating her in 2009. He barely recovered with a good season last year after being suspended for an entire year in 2014. It took years for him to become good again. And even now I think he has no chance to become a Hall of Famer become he was busted using PEDs.

She can break even the best of them... I'm worried about J.J. Watt now.

I'd be much more concerned about his slew of recent injuries and surgeries.......and what effects they have on his future performance as well as the implications for potential subsequent related injuries..........it would be unrealistic to believe that JJ will remain unaffected..........the only question is to what extent.

awe.. you been listening to the radio.

I've known that Kate Hudson was a succubus long before she went on a date with J.J.

Besides, the guys on the radio never mentioned succubus. They probably need to be warned! :sos:

I thin Paul Gallant and Josh Beard refered to her as a succubus on Tuesday night when I was driving home. In the same segment though it came out that Hudson is friends with people who are on Dancing with the Stars where Paige Vanzant is currently competing, who JJ early was reportedly dating. Someone said the Hudson JJ date was mainly to throw people off the JJ Vanzant trail, because they wanted to keep it private.

That seems more JJ's style.

Damn, I need to win me some DPOY awards so I can split some Goldie Hawn-spawned tang...

Sorry, I was thinking out loud again.

OK so there was a 2nd volunteer for the succubus treatment.

When they came up with 'succubus' did they foretell it just wasn't going to sound that bad in English?
