Why? What exactly has Savage done or shown to warrant the ego? Seems like another guy to me and would be an easy cut if an above average QB could find his way to this roster.
I have never seen a backup QB return kicks before. This seems like not a very good idea.
With Hoyer back, Weeden's the backup QB. Daniels was actually the #3 QB. It would be hard to justify having him active if he weren't doing stuff like that.I have never seen a backup QB return kicks before. This seems like not a very good idea.
I have it on good authority, my son-in-law, that RG3 is house hunting in Houston. My son-in-law is a realtor and showed one of his listings to RG3, his wife, daughter, and his lawyer a house yesterday in Lake Conroe. Something is brewing!

I really can't decide on him. Have the injuries taken such a toll that he's no longer the athlete that won the OROY? I'd also like to see if he can be developed into a Russell Wilson type QB. I don't want to see a full read-option offense, but I love the versatility a QB like Wilson brings to the table.I'm not a fan of RGIII, but, on the bright side RGIII > Hoyer.
The more I think about it, the more I like the thought of it. From another thread:This seems like a move on would make.
I was totally against this initially, but I was reminded by someone that OB has gotten guys to improve under him pretty consistently.
An if RG3 has been humbled some and has a new mindset then it could maybe work. I think OB would call plays that suit him and develop his ever changing offense around the guy.
And as far as him and kaep are concerned I think RG3 is the more capable player from a talent standpoint. Kaep is the more developed professional, but I'm not a fan of kaep as a qb.
And it's not at all uncommon for "Big 3" professional athletes to make their home in the Houston area - even if they play for a non-Houston/non-Texas franchise.Hmm, he went to HS near Fort Hood, played for Baylor and now he's looking to buy a house in Texas? No way!
The character issues concern me, but the talent is undeniable. Considering the talent level at Washington, I think RGIII could thrive in Houston. Not to mention be an excellent counter to Luck, Bortles and Mariotta. Damn, I guess I'm getting on board with this. A QB roster of RGIII, Savage and Weeden/Yates would be pretty nice.Seeing what O'Brien has been able to do with the 7 QBs the past two seasons, I'd definitely be a little curious if they decided to kick the tires on RGIII.
That said, I'm concerned that O'Brien is not the greatest judge of character (i.e. Mallett), as well as his reliance on unknown talent metrics that did not see the lack of 'clutch' in his chosen QB (i.e. Hoyer).
I'm not enamored with him either, but anybody except Hoyer. Thorn, but not Hoyer.I'm not a fan of RGIII, but, on the bright side RGIII > Hoyer.
Do we have any evidence that points to RG3 being able to absorb & implement an NFL play book?
We know JFF had never seen a playbook before Cleveland. It's not too hard to imagine Case Keenum never seen one before the Texans.
RG3 had a remarkable rookie season. Primarily because of his athleticism & how that opened the field for him. However, that athleticism got gum hurt & the drama that ensued did not allow him to develop the way you would expect a 4 year vet would.
If we were to get RG3 we would be getting a 4 year vet without the athleticism to open the field, doesn't know our play book, doesn't know our terminology.
That doesn't sound like someone I want to build my offense around.
Yes, there is. Just look at his record.Do we have any evidence that points to RG3 being able to absorb & implement an NFL play book?

Whatever....Vince? That's a "we should sign VY!" answer.

I think if RG3 is brought in they will still draft a QB; however I don't think they have a shot at drafting one of the top three QBs. Also, I believe Coker could be a franchise player.Would this be another stop gap move? The 3rd in OBs 3 seasons? Sure, he'd be an upgrade over Hoyer, but that's not saying much.
You bring in Griffin on the cheap and if he doesn't work, if he hasn't learned to read defenses, understand a playbook, you know, play NFL QB, then we go into a 4th year still looking. When is this franchise going to really bite the bullet and get this QB situation addressed with something other than retreads?
The change of scenery angle might be something to consider, but how many successful examples of that are there? The go to is Steve Young but he sat behind a real QB for 4 years after he got to Frisco.
I see the phrase "kick the tires" used around here ad nauseam. How about kicking the tires on drafting a franchise QB? Enough of this stop gap crap already.

Talk of RGIII potentially buying a home here, and possibly getting news about whether or not he becomes a Texan seems a little premature.
Teams can't talk to players about free agency at this point can they?

Right. If anything is happening now, it's going to be a trade.

I'm not sure trades can even be discussed at this point, at least not within the rules.
I think that they can talk, but nothing can happen until after the league new year
I think talking to a player still under contract without permission would be considered tampering. Of course you have to get beyond merely exchanging pleasantries to get there.I think that they can talk, but nothing can happen until after the league new year
I don't see where RGIII is concussion prone. He's only had one, that I know of, and got plenty of rest (as in the entire 2015 season) to recover from it.Why in God's name would they even consider bringing RG3 here. The guy has had 2 reconstructions of the same knee, plus he's concussion prone. But injury history aside, the two biggest issues plaguing him are his inability to read the field and propensity to get sacked too often. This is what happens to any mobile QB who is no longer mobile.
i fully understand the need to upgrade the QB position. But they won't be upgrading it by bringing this baggage carrying bust.
Honestly, if you had a job around NRG stadium and could buy about anyplace, wouldn't you buy in River Oaks or Tanglewood, something closer and not in Lake Conroe ? Anybody who knows anything about Houston knows that would be a hellish commute ! The Woodlands would be bad enough, but Conroe is even farther north.I have it on good authority, my son-in-law, that RG3 is house hunting in Houston. Hey I do kinda hope he does come to Houston.
I'm wondering what for a lack of better words, "casual fans" and what they thinkHow do you guys think RG3 will be received by Texans fans?
Do you think he'll be looked at as an elite talent that needs time to develop?
Or do you think he'll be looked at as the latest retread in the line of Fitzpatrick, Mallett, Hoyer?
It would be nice if he came here & started winning right off the bat. But if he were to start, I think we'll see him struggle as he tries to cope with a new offense & reduced athleticism. Of course it's been so long that anyone has actually seen him play & I may be overstating the effects of his injury, but...
If he were to struggle, are we going to be "ok" with letting him work his way through it. If we're 2-5, are we ok with trotting him back out there? If we're down 13-0 at the half & he's responsible for four turnovers, are we ok with him starting the 2nd half?
Or do we just think he's so good, we'll never be in those positions?
I could wrap my head around signing the guy reasonably to compete with Savage/Draft Pick. Trading anything whatsoever though ...

He's not as bright as I thought he was.
I dont see the issue with bringing in RGIII as a flier and drafting a QB. Yes he has issues reading defenses, but with the work that BOB did with Fitz/Hoyer getting their best seasons out of them, it's reasonable to think BOB can help RGIII improve and RGIII was born more talent than Fitz/Hoyer could ever dream of having.
They still need to draft a QB high though to hedge their bets though. Marcus apparently doesn't think people have the ability to improve at 25 yrs old. Not really shocking coming coming from a crusty old man.
